This is a great piece by Craig on pandemic preparedness, especially in the context of the ongoing Ebola outbreak.
A great article about a crucial topic. Many people struggling with Long Covid are running out of short-term disability and savings, but the disability/insurance bureaucracy keeps putting up obstacles — and many are are already too ill to navigate that maze. Terrible situation.
An excellent recent piece in the Atlantic on "Long Influenza" and Epstein-Barr Virus (cannot wait for that vaccine) complications—including Long EBV and a variety of other chronic conditions. A National Institute for Post-Viral Conditions is warranted.
Excellent @aaronecarroll essay on why we should advocate for vaccination for kids, but also good analysis of why the rates have been so abysmal. Risks are low isn't an argument against lowering them even further by such an effective tool. #giftlink
Amazing how much stuff people make up with such confidence. Here's an article from 2016 on Japan's mask culture noting also worn *to protect others* —10 seconds on Google. (I was doing research in East Asia pre-pandemic so I didn't even need Google).
Crucial work documenting many aspects of the Uyghur concentration camps in Xinjiang, China. Some of the detained are children—hard to look at their frightened faces. It comes from a leak. Independent journalists can't really operate in China—even citizen-journalists face jail.
