Born and raised in Vienna, Austria, with a traditional Catholic upbringing. Received MA degree from Vienna Academy of Fine Arts and PhD in experimental psychology from University of Vienna. Emigrated to the United States in 1952 and became a Benedictine monk. Engaged in Buddhist-Christian dialogue and studied Zen with various masters.
