Typically insightful piece from @wrmead My only quibble: A narrower US policy toward the ME is not at all bad for Israel. US-Israel alliance emerged when Israel was a "regional sheriff" in the Nixon era. And hyper aggressive Bush 43 policy backfired, as Ariel Sharon predicted.
