"Darkness At Noon" -- Arthur Koestler, 1940. This the book that made George Orwell give up nonfiction and write "1984" nine years later. (Few know this.) It's a better book. Get the 2019 translation.

If you've never read Tom Wolfe's classic #BonfireoftheVanities, you've missed probably the most politically incorrect, revealing look at urban life and the criminal justice system. Most lawyers I know love it.
