Thread
8 months ago, I decided to write on Twitter every day.

45M+ impressions and 28,000+ new friends later,

It was the best decision I've ever made.

Here's my 12 step framework to building an audience (that you can steal):
1. Hero's mindset

No matter if you have 10, 100, or 1000 followers you need to carry yourself like you have 100k.

Make each post like its gonna be your next masterpiece.

Content creation is a journey. You're the main character. Be the hero to your own story.
2. Standout profile picture

Your picture accompanies your tweets on the timeline.

Some people go anon (AI photos, Drawings, etc.) but for those who want to use their face you have to make sure it's professional.

• No busy backgrounds
• No mirror selfies
• No bad angles
Studies showed that first impressions activate cognitive bias in our brains (Frontiers in psychology, 12, 736534)

A bad profile picture can give the impression that you're just a lurker. To create a high quality picture, I use this tool.

3. Banner that converts

Don't overload your Twitter banner with text and graphics.

Remember that it also needs to be optimized for mobile.

A good banner will have a one liner offering value that entices profile visitors, and a CTA pointing to the follow button.
4. Value packed bio

Your bio is your elevator pitch, and your feed is your portfolio.

Add these to your bio:
• How you add value (content topics)
• Project/goal or social proof
• CTA in location
• Website

A fully fleshed bio sets you apart from other creators.
5. Follower ratio

Keep at least a 1:2 ratio of following to followers if you want to establish yourself as an authority.

If you have a bad ratio, it gives the impression that you're only on Twitter to consume content.

Follow people who provide value.
6. Brand voice

Your brand voice is the set of values you stand for.

Each piece of content you post should reflect this.

Having a unique set of values differentiates you. Even if content creation is saturated.

Here's a guide to get you started:

7. Inspiration lists

Creating lists on Twitter is a good way to engage with others.

Make a list of 30 accounts:
• 10 that are your size
• 10 that are mid size (2-5x more followers)
• 10 that are large (10x more followers)

8. Unscalable actions

Gain a competitive edge through unscalable actions.

Take an extra minute to write thoughtful replies and DMs. You'll be remembered by your audience.

This guide will teach you how to engage in less time:

9. Consistency and credibility

Posting randomly every day isn't sustainable. Alternate short and long form content.

Daily tweets for consistency, weekly threads for authority.

Here's a simple plan:
• 3 tweets a day (AM, PM)
• 3 threads a week (Curation, Story, Advice)
10. Community

Growing with like minded people makes your Twitter journey 10x easier.

Look for peers that:
• You can learn with
• You can grow with
• You can build with

11. Newsletter

People are more willing to buy products from those they trust.

A newsletter lets you build an email list and flex your expertise through long form content.

There are a number of providers to set up your newsletter:

As time passes and you grow on Twitter, you'll have followers who haven't seen your old content.

Repost it, but strive to make it even better.
