Thread
I’m growing this Twitter account from 0 to 100,000 followers in 2023.

Steal the framework & let’s grow together:
First:

⚠️ I'm NOT an expert on Twitter growth!

But, I've been an engineer for 15 years and:

βœ… I'm an expert at building frameworks.

So I built the framework.

For everything else, I rely on the proven experts on Twitter and link to their ideas.
β€” How to use this β€”

I created this to be a one-stop solution. It's long.

So:
πŸ‘‰ Skim the thread
πŸ‘‰ Focus on the relevant sections
πŸ”– Bookmark the first tweet and revisit every 1,000 subs

I'll RT this every 2 weeks, so you get a reminder.
β€” The Framework β†’ Summary β€”

Chapter 1:
Foundation πŸ‘‰ your daily checklist

Chapters 2-4:
Stage 1: Engage πŸ‘‰ 0-1,000 Followers
Stage 2: Connect πŸ‘‰ 1,000-10,000 Followers
Stage 3: Scale πŸ‘‰ 10,000-100,000 Followers
The goal is simple:

πŸš€ Make real connections.

Find and connect to people you want to spend time with. Friends that can help you learn and grow.

Going for 100,000 is only to show that it's possible. To inspire.
CHAPTER 1

β€”β€”β€” FOUNDATION β€”β€”β€”

The basics to make your journey easier ↓
Β· Foundation β†’ Initial checklist

3 things help you build trust & connect with others:

βœ” Learn to write valuable comments
βœ” Send effective DMs
βœ” Show up

Here's how the pros do them:
Β· Foundation β†’ Writing valuable comments

When you're starting, few people will see your Tweets.

So, focus on writing valuable comments.
They'll help you reach more people, find your people and connect.

Rob is the expert on value-packed comments. Here's his guide:

Β· Foundation β†’ Mastering DMs

2 simple ways to DM:

1/ Say "Hi" to people who follow you
2/ Say "Hi" to people's content you like & engage with

Also, reply to all of your DMs. Think of them as texts.

Syed goes in-depth on what specifically to write:

Β· Foundation β†’ Showing up

Leaders know that the most powerful way to build trust is by showing up.

To build a strong connection with people on Twitter, you need to show up.

⏳ Spend 1 hour/day connecting.
(split it in your day to suit your needs)

Tia’s words stuck with me:

CHAPTER 2

β€”β€”β€” STAGE 1: ENGAGE β€”β€”β€”

Getting your first 1000 followers ↓
Β· Engage β†’ 0-1,000 Followers

The first few connections are the hardest. In a new job, a new city, and a new Twitter account.

This chapter is focused on making this process as simple as possible.

You'll learn to:
β€” Be a niche
β€” Find friends
β€” Write tweets

Β· Engage β†’ What to talk about

I grew my old account from 0 to 10,000 by posting quotes in 2017.

But:

Posting famous quotes is NOT the way to grow your account in 2022.

βœ” Twitter is about people now.

What interesting things are you:
A/ Doing
B/ Learning

Dan goes deeper:

Β· Engage β†’ Being a niche

Everyone says β€œpick a niche”.

But the moment you β€œpick a niche”:

You become generic.

So:
βœ” Be yourself.
βœ” Learn new things.
βœ” Make your own niche.

Julie is who even the 200k accounts are learning that from:

Β· Engage β†’ Who to follow

Organizations don't rule Twitter. People do.

Following a bunch of bland company accounts is the easiest way to make your journey suck.

Instead, use Twitter's search to find the best creators in your niche.

Yakshit explains how:

Extra Tip on search:

Search for: β€œ{topic} tip” or β€œ{topic} hack”

Day 1, I searched for β€œproductivity hack” and found the fantastic @theseancrow, @MrJacobEspi, and @Tim_Denning.
@theseancrow @MrJacobEspi @Tim_Denning Β· Engage β†’ Tap into an existing audience

Having your favorite creators, it's time to:

πŸ‘‹ Connect to their fans.

If you and I both like someone, we'll probably hit it off.

βœ” Start with your favorite creators' audience when making friends.

Clint breaks it down:

Β· Engage β†’ Daily Checklist

Write:
βœ” 2xTweets/Day β€” this is target practice for later
βœ” 20xComments/Day β€” comments on bigger accounts will show you to more people

To grow faster, write:
βœ” 50xComments/Day β€” go as high as you can while keeping them high-quality
ℹ️ I’m intentionally putting the β€œhow to write Tweets” section in the next chapter. Focusing on connections will make your writing better & faster.

Extra: comment what you think of this thread so far β€” you’ll help me out a ton!
CHAPTER 3

β€”β€”β€” STAGE 2: CONNECT β€”β€”β€”

Going from 1,000 to 10,000 followers ↓
Β· Connect β†’ 1,000-10,000 Followers

Before 1,000 you're mostly limited to adding value.
After 1,000 you can now start creating original value.

You'll learn to:
β€” Write tweets
β€” Have ∞ ideas
β€” Write a good bio

It's all about building trust.

Building trust makes life easy:

Β· Connect β†’ Level up your writing

Twitter is about packaging ideas into tiny little presents.

A big part of your journey to 10k will be becoming better at the core skill:

Writing.

Dickie, one of the best-recognized writers on the platform, wrote a mega-thread on the topic:

Β· Connect β†’ Writing Framework

A framework can make your writing 10x easier.

Here’s the simple framework that I’ve been using:

1/ Generate ideas
2/ Break them down
3/ Answer a single question
4/ Make it a story

Here's a breakdown:
Β· Connect β†’ Writing Framework β†’ Generate ideas

Generating ideas is where people typically get stuck.

The easiest way to generate ideas is to talk to people. But even when you do that a ton, you'll get stuck.

In those situations, I use Julian's creativity faucet to start:

Β· Connect β†’ Writing Framework β†’ Break the problem down

Once I have the idea in mind, I break it down into its' building blocks.

One idea can become:
βœ” Several Tweets
βœ” A Newsletter
βœ” A Thread
Or even several.

I narrow it down with McKinsey's Issue Tree Julia shared:

Β· Connect β†’ Writing Framework β†’ Answer a single question

Next, with a specific idea in mind, I focus on answering a single question.

Answering only one question is tough.

I enjoyed Wes' approach to narrowing it down and applied it to my writing:

Β· Connect β†’ Writing Framework β†’ Make it a story

Finally: make it a story.

Historically, we've always relied on stories to learn. This is as true today β€” the best writers are the best storytellers.

Kieran's breakdown will help you sell both products and ideas.

Β· Connect β†’ Writing Framework β†’ Extra Tips

2 extra tips:

1/ Retweet your tweets after 9-12 hours. You’ll reach a completely different audience in the other half of the world.

2/ Answer every comment on your threads. This helps put your thread up in followers’ timelines.
Β· Connect β†’ Build a magnetic profile

Even if your writing is fantastic, it’s often your profile that helps your future followers pull the trigger and press that button.

Sohaib grew his account to 20,000 in 4 months and knows something about writing a killer profile:

ℹ️ Think about your pinned tweet as well.

What can you show to build trust?

Here are a few ideas:

βœ” Popular Thread
βœ” Newsletter
βœ” Product

πŸ’‘ Pressing the ❀ button on threads helps other creators build trust. The more trusted creators you know, the more trusted you are.
Β· Connect β†’ (Bonus) Get inspired by AI

Sometimes I just don’t have it. I can’t write even a single word.

One thing I like to do in those cases is... cheat.

I use AI to generate images or prompts for inspiration.

Heather goes through a fascinating example:

Β· Connect β†’ Daily Checklist

Write:
βœ” 2xTweets/Day β€” to test ideas
βœ” 1xThreads/Week β€” to deep dive into the best ideas
βœ” 20xComments/Day β€” comments will help you connect with your audience
To grow faster, write:
βœ” 3xTweets/Day β€” no need to do much more
βœ” 2xThreads/Week β€” well-crafted threads, shoutouts, and giveaways work great
βœ” 50xComments/Day β€” more is better; keep the quality
CHAPTER 4

β€”β€”β€” STAGE 3: GROW β€”β€”β€”

Going from 10,000 to 100,000 followers ↓
Β· Grow β†’ 10,000-100,000 Followers

With that many true connections, it’s time to dial it up on the value.

You'll learn to:
β€” Automate
β€” Edit better
β€” Write better threads

It’s all about helping people.

Β· Connect β†’ Focus on Editing

I suck at editing.

But, at the same time, editing helps you simplify your ideas and:

Simple > Clever

There's one person everyone goes to for editing:
Erica

Here's her masterclass:

Β· Connect β†’ Improve your threads (1/2)

When it comes to writing great threads, the 80-20 rule applies:
βœ” Spend 80% of your time writing threads
βœ” Spend 20% of your time studying great writers

Everyone I mentioned is worth studying.

2 outstanding examples:

First, Justin:

Β· Connect β†’ Improve your threads (2/2)

Also, Aadit:

Β· Connect β†’ Feed on feedback

Getting feedback is how you find out what really works and why.

To do that, you need 2 things:
1/ Analytics
2/ Mindset

For analytics, use Twitter's builtin analytics or @ilodotso for a more advanced version.

For the mindset, read this:

@ilodotso Β· Connect β†’ Automate everything

There are quite a few tools to automate your Twitter schedule, but nothing comes close to @Yannick_Veys's Hypefury.

Use it to:
βœ” Repost your old threads
βœ” Build a pipeline of content
βœ” Automate Retweets after 12 hours

ℹ️ The not-so-secret secret to this phase:

Just keep going.

Momentum and trust will help you grow exponentially.
Β· Connect β†’ Daily Checklist

Write:
βœ” 3xTweets/Day β€” to test ideas
βœ” 3xThreads/Week β€” to deep dive into the best ideas
βœ” 20xComments/Day β€” comments will help you connect with your audience and give you more ideas
To grow faster, write:
βœ” 5xTweets/Day β€” you have a big enough audience to test a lot of ideas
βœ” 4xThreads/Week β€” focus on giving the most value
βœ” 2h Research/Day β€” you will tap out of knowledge to share β€” read up to find more (don't stop resharing old ideas)
Woah, what a project.

This thread took:
β€” 20 hours of writing
β€” 8 days of obsessive research
β€” 1500 comments to test a lot of the ideas

It was worth every second.
