🧑‍🎓📚 New Educational Models

While universities & traditional learning models are powerful educational mechanisms, at the edges of these is the potential for new institutional forms.

Here’s a list of some new attempts at complementing traditional educational institutions:

🧵
1/
The first rough category is that of novel upstart schools.

Or, as per Simon DeDeo, “parallel academies” simondedeo.com/?p=931

Here are a few of these upstart schools:

@schoolofmaaa

@Harbour_Space

@bradfieldcs

@sfpc

@woolfuniversity

and the Venture Science Doctorate from @deepsciventures

3/
There are also some interesting experiments happening in continuing adult education:

@interintellect_

@lyceuminstitute

@CatherineProj

@BklynInstitute

The Modern Elder Academy from @ChipConley

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes: www.osherfoundation.org/olli.html

4/
There has also been an explosion of fellowship programs and informal learning communities:

@joininteract

@southpkcommons

@recursecenter

@join_polaris

@roote_

and the gap year fellowship from Powderhouse: www.powderhouse.org/programs/2022/fall

Note, there is definitely some overlap here with the Enlightenment 2.0 as well as institutions from the Overedge Catalog:

I’m always interested in additional new educational models, but the entire list of these can be found here:
