Today I’m 42 years old.

Here are 5 lessons about life I wish I knew 20 years ago:
❌ Kill the Entitlement Mentality

I was fortunate to be born into a good life:

• 2 loving parents
• Food on the table
• Roof over my head

But I thought I deserved more.
I fantasized about good things happening by chance:

• Fame
• Praise
• Money

But success doesn't just happen.

You have to earn it.
❌ Kill the Victim's Mentality

I used to blame everyone but myself when I didn’t get what I wanted.

I thought:

• Others
• Society
• The world

Conspired against me.
But when things go poorly, you must take ownership of your life.

Didn’t make the team?
Good.
Practice more.

Need to make more money?
Great.
Build a side hustle.

Didn’t get the promotion?
Perfect.
Find another job.

Take ownership of your response.

One way to do that is…
🎯 Do Hard Things

You evolved to struggle:

• Find enough food
• Contend with mother nature
• Avoid predators & warring tribes

There was always a threat, always a challenge.

You adapt or die…
Modern society keeps you weak:

• High calorie fast food
• Cheap dopamine hits from your phone
• Life designed for 100% convenience & comfort

Everything you need (and want) at the push of a button.

These aren't bad things but...
Struggle is the foundation for growth:

• Run a marathon
• Learn a hard skill
• Build something of value

The life you want is waiting just beyond the edge of your comfort zone.
🎯 Build a System of Habits

“You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” - James Clear

Use big goals to set the direction.

Use strong habits to reach the destination.

The best thing you can do is ask the right questions:
Audit your actions.

How much of your day is spent moving toward your goals?

How much is spent moving away from them?

Work out what holds you back and shape your day accordingly.

Live by design, not default.
🎯 Focus on the Process

It's so easy to get caught up in results:

• Likes & retweets
• Revenue & profit
• Success and failure

Outcomes are important, but they're outside of your control…
But the process is in your control.

You decide your:

• Effort
• Attitude
• Consistency

Focus on compounding action and the results will take care of themselves.
And if you don’t get the result you want?

Good.

A chance to learn.

Ask yourself:

• What went well?
• What didn't?
• What can I do better next time?

There is no failure, only feedback.
