A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the #NeighbourhoodDoughnut Celebration + Portrait Launch. It was an honour to be side by side with so many neighbours from near and far, and the deep, practical, visionary hope was palpable in every single exchange shared.

The event was a hands-on chance to experience the work in our neighbourhood over 3+ years, sharing the data + community portraits from Unrolling The Doughnut to see all that was thriving and the task ahead for us all together.

On Day 1, we looked at the big picture, told the story so far since @KateRaworth visited us in Birmingham, and shared the first #NeighbourhoodDoughnut. We unrolled the story with interactive displays, games + more for everyone to explore together @signingtree in the heart of B16.
On Day 2, we distributed as much of the knowledge, methodologies, tools + learnings as we could squeeze into one day. Whether it was the data portrait of place, bold visions, or intergenerational learning, we were overwhelmed by the appetite to dream, learn and practice together.
Day Three was a celebration of the neighbourhood, who show every day that brighter, more collective futures are possible. At @__TheFrontRoom, we raised our gaze to bringing the @civic_square site to life in 2023 as a deep demonstrator for the neighbourhood infrastructure we need.
We were excited to share the first reveal of the #NeighbourhoodDoughnut Data Portrait as part of a series of reports that lay out the process, findings, story so far + the deep work needed going forward. Thanks @ClimateActLeeds + researchers @Catraws @IrenaBauman + Jenni Brooks.
With @DoughnutEcon as a 21st Century compass, where can we expand our visions of the future further? Reimagining Economic Possibilities is a new publication for regularly sharing contributions to weave a plurality of bold visions. Explore the first series: bit.ly/ReimaginingEconomics
What if we focus away from what we are scared to lose, and towards where the green shoots of the new economy are already happening? We featured just some of the amazing stories of those in our neighbourhood working for thriving in balance with the first issue of Good News of B16.
Our pop-up regenerative #BeyondBooks shop with a range of publications by authors from all over the world exploring new economic possibilities was a hit with so many of you, plus zines to pick up from our #NeighbourhoodDoughnut explorations with DIY print and co-authoring so far.
As a celebration of intergenerational learning across the neighbourhood, WormQuest was an immersive audio trail as part of the launch with @OverhearPoetry, telling the story of Super Worm and soil alongside children and teachers of St Johns & St Peters and Barford Primary School.
The photos from the #NeighbourhoodDoughnut Portrait Launch are now available here in an open GDrive folder as we prepare to open source everything else: drive.google.com/drive/u/1/folders/1X2jLssqnJ3xczSvIskcu36xbDy-VzR_6

Our thanks to @ThomBartley and Angela Grabowska (instagram.com/angela.grabowska) for capturing the adventure!
Over the last year, @Iconic_Director have been following the #NeighbourhoodDoughnut journey, and as part of the launch they shared a short trailer of over a year of co-creation across the neighbourhood. Here's the teaser, with full film coming Spring 2023. vimeo.com/763839354/2cab31b1b4

If we know the incredible energy, hope, activity, practice, technology, and future is already here, how can we organise ourselves for the shape of the challenge ahead? The 21st Century question of thriving in balance is a goal bigger than any of us, yet is one that unites us all.
Our homes, streets + neighbourhood is where the polycrisis we face converges with our everyday life; where we experience it in real time, however they are also the assuage to our grief + powerlessness; the foundations of the hopeful, creative, just transition we know is possible.
