8 mental models to help you build massive startups:
Before we start...

You can't overthink and underwork your way to a successful business.

There is no burnout when building a massive company.

There’s only hard work or failure.

These mental models are built only for the ambitious.
Context Batching:

If you switch between tasks constantly, your mind will be in different places all at once.

You’ll lose the focus required to finish projects.

Don’t multi-task.

Go all in on a project, complete in, and move on.
Decomplication:

Boil things down to their simplest form, and act immediately.

Find the next step for a complicated project and just do that one thing.

If you try to tackle a complex task with a 40,000 ft view, you'll miss all the important steps between.
Calendarization:

To-do lists are deceitful.

Calendars tell you the truth.

If you build time in for big projects, you'll get them done.

If you don’t time block for hard things, you’ll avoid them at all costs.

Put it in your calendar, and do what you said you'd do.
Systematization of Goals:

Goals are not tasks.

Reverse engineer what needs to be done and break it down into parts.

Every goal should be comprised of a system to reach it.

And every system is made of simple tasks.
Velocity Optimization:

Speed is the ultimate differentiator.

When choosing between speed and any other priority, choose speed.

Your competitors are likely going slowly and carefully.

You need to find the right direction and move toward it quickly.
Long-Term Thinking:

Everything we do now isn’t just about the present.

It’s laying the groundwork for the ambitious future we want to build.

Think big with every decision and allow compounding effects to work their magic.
Exceeding the Average:

Most companies are performing at an average level and pace.

Write out what the “average” founder would do if they were building your company.

Then 10x the ambition, strategy, and execution based on that foundation.
Feedback Optimization:

Feedback is a gift.

It gives you new perspectives quickly and allows you to make crucial adjustments.

If feedback offends you, that’s your fault.

Build a system around you of providing, receiving, and implementing feedback.
Let's recap.

The mental models I've used that actually help you build a big business:

• Context Batching
• Decomplication
• Calendarization
• Systematization of Goals
• Velocity Optimization
• Long-Term Thinking
• Exceeding the Average
• Feedback Optimization
