Thread: for 2+ years the State Dept. has been bungling the US visa system. The wait time in New Delhi for a tourist visa is >800 days!

Are we supposed to just accept gross government incompetence nowadays?

In tomorrow’s @WSJ I argue that we shouldn’t... www.wsj.com/articles/the-other-immigration-crisis-endless-visa-waits-delays-embassies-consulates-proc...
This sloppy, unnecessary, rude, and unaccountable bureaucratic failure is increasingly having serious effects on the economy + American families.

There are millions of US citizens and permanent residents with family in India and elsewhere. Ask them how this is affecting them!
When our @8VC team wants to visit India or many other places for business, we file the e-visa papers and they’re processed in short order.

Meanwhile, some top technologists in India are being asked to wait 2-3 years just to *visit* the US for a few weeks. This is nonsense.
Ask the universities about this, too.

There are bright students from all over the world with spots in US colleges who now have to take gap years because the wait-times for a student visa *appointment* is over a year. What's the point?

Make the law, and enforce it competently.
Why hasn’t anyone been hauled before Congress to explain how the visa system became the DMV?

Who's been fired? Why is there so little accountability at all levels of government?

At this rate, when most visas to visit come through, the LA-SF bullet train will be up and running!
Those who care about gov’t competence, both D & R, need to step in and fix this

And to my American technologist / VC colleagues: we owe it to our foreign colleagues or those with family abroad to speak up & tell our leaders to address it. The status quo is beyond disrespectful.
