Thread
✨Hi Twitter✨

Since it’s #FossilFriday I thought I would introduce myself and what you can expect from this snarky fish-a-pod’s account!

I’m a Tiktaalik’s cousin that thought better than to venture on land. I preferred the Devonian open water instead #TeamFish

A THREAD 🧵

The discovery and description of my skeleton was published by @TomDoesScience @Justin_Lemberg @NeilShubin and other amazing scientists!

My body fossil was found 4 days BEFORE Tiktaalik was, and pretty close by too!

I want the fame, but not the blame.
So now we know each other a bit.

Hi I am a #fossilfish with fleshy limbs, I am related to those that went on to land. But I like them my fins lack some muscle scars that would indicate I could do a push up or hold my self up on land.

My fins were better suited to swimming rather than ‘landing’. #TeamFish
While Tiktaalik’s fins show a strong ridge for muscles that are critical for pushing UP.

This is Tiktaalik’s fin, the one above is mine.
If you want access to the 3D scans they are freely available here: www.morphosource.org/concern/biological_specimens/000407131

Feel free to use them, or print them!
I was found on Inuit land in Nunavut Canada.

The Inuit communities have been absolutely critical to the discoveries of both Tiktaalik and myself. And for that evolutionary biology is indebted to those communities.
Write ups on my discovery are here in English: shubinlab.uchicago.edu/research-2-3/

What to expect from a fishapod account?

I’ll be RTing fossil stuff cuz duh! (That’s my skull)

I’ll be shutting down any landcentric ideas.

I will be tweeting about FISH and science!
