as part of my @GAZELL_iO residency, I created WAYS TO MISSPELL OBSIDIAN, a collection of three spoken-word poems that investigates + celebrates the storytelling potential of long-form poetry.

this text serves as precursor + companion to "Ways to Misspell Obsidian," a lyric essay written years later that braids details of Juan’s death w the story of my son's intoxication w nail polish remover🪡

I culled from the pages of my essay to create ONCE + FATHOMLESS.

together w JUAN, these poems use rhyme, unexpected line breaks + spacing to sketch the shadows of emotion.

bare in their visuals + audio production, these works wager everything on the power + beauty of language🪡
