I’m not sure what I think about this whole skeumorphism trend in gen art. I mean, it’s sometimes aesthetically interesting and technically impressive but does imitating analogue techniques add value beyond nostalgia?
I remember working on a wood cut back in art school, busting my ass off to imitate the way I used to draw with a pencil, when an old teacher asked me why I would fight the material to achieve something that could be better achieved in a different medium.
I think generative/digital art has enourmous potential to express ideas that are inexpressable in any other medium. Systems, behaviour, interactivity, complexity and non-linearity are just a few examples
