I didn't believe that Russia would attack Ukraine, went to bed on February 24, reading at 2 am about the turns of planes in the ukrainian airspace and was awakened early in the morning by a phone call. Hell began.
I saw the news about the Russian bombing of our cities, woke up the family and we began to frantically collect essentials. Less than half an hour later, a siren sounded in our city. For 10 days we slept in turns, hiding in the basement of our house.
On April 5 my mother and I decided to leave home. Our whole life was limited to one small bag, three cats and a backpack. Clothes and a laptop were put in a bag. In the backpack lay and now lies the most important things: medicines, documents, mother's glasses, old photos,
watercolor paints, phone chargers and the BOOK.
This year I turned 25, I had a good job, repairs in my parents' house were coming to an end, I was saving money to buy my own apartment. In November 2021, I saw the news that Stephen Fry didn’t abandon his sparkling Instagram with
ties, but wrote a whole book about them, and, oh my, you can get a signed copy from Waterstones. waterstones were not delivered to Ukraine, but I managed to pre-order, find out which of the Ukrainian carriers has a warehouse in the UK in order to use a British address for
delivery and waited. The book arrived before my birthday.
Today is April 14, thousands of Ukrainians have died at the hands of Russian soldiers, who indiscriminately kill any Ukrainian they meet. Women, children, disabled people, old people, men - Russians don't care.
Everything that the hands of Russians touch in Ukraine collapses, is torn apart, raped, mutilated and finally destroyed. Residents of the captured cities are deported to the backyards of Russia, and the president of the International Red Cross shakes hands with Lavrov and opens
an office in Rostov-on-Don. Bucha, Gostomel, Irpin, Kharkiv, Chernigiv, Mariupol, Kramatorsk, thousands of cities and villages. this genocide does not stop for a second. Alas, I will have to explain to you why we blame all the Russians.
The Russian constitution says "The bearer of sovereignty and the only source of power in the Russian Federation is its multinational people." Is this too official for an authoritarian state? Russian wives ordering things from bombed-out apartments for their husbands,
calmly listen to stories of raped children, and worry about the queues for military apartments moving faster. Wives of russian soldiers encourage them to rape. Russian children complain that they cannot play computer games, pay for meals with apple pay,
while children in Ukraine die in basements, they are shot in evacuation cars and trains.
We can only win with help of allies and heavy weapons we constantly ask for.
Of course, we are all extremely grateful to everyone who writes about the situation in Ukraine:@hughlaurie @stephenfry,@StephenKing, @neilhimself, @EmmaThompson90, @MarkHamill and a huge number of those whose names I will not write for the sake of saving characters.
Now I'm sitting in
kitchen of a one-room apartment that I share with 5 people, everything I have fits in a backpack, in which the signed book @stephenfry "Fry's Ties" takes its proud place. You don't appreciate everything you have until you lose it all in an instant.
But today is the 50th day of the war. Many of you are tired of looking at photos and videos about the massacres in our cities, tired of constant requests, protests, demands.
You have the opportunity to get tired and continue your normal life. We don't have this opportunity, the Russians have taken it away from us. This war will not end in a week or a month, but do not let yourself forget about Ukraine, do not be silent.
