2021 was uncomfortable AF.

But the greatest growth happens in the face of discomfort.

Here are 7 lessons from one crazy year 🧵
DIVERSIFY YOUR ROLE MODELS

My role models were always business people.

Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, Jamie Dimon.

But career isn't the only thing that matters to me.

I care about family, happiness, generosity, connection.

My role models need to reflect my values.
DON'T BE REACTIVE TO MENTAL HEALTH

You don't wait for high cholesterol to go to the gym.

So you shouldn't wait for anxiety to take care of your mental health.

Be an active player in your mental health, not a passive onlooker.
COMMUNITY IS A DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD

The internet's abundant & communities make it approachable.

I spend 80% of time in communities like @CPGclub and a Twitter creator group.

But community burnout's real with infinite communities & no friction to join.

Be selective, go deep.
SELF-COMPARISON IS A SLIPPERY SLOPE

We all compare. Clothing, jobs, etc.

And comparison has served us well over history.

But, there's a trade-off.

It's an external trigger that dictates our happiness.

When I feel my best, I compare less & love myself more.
AUDIT YOUR CIRCLE FREQUENTLY

What makes you, you? Nature & Nurture.

We think of nurture as something that ended with childhood.

But that's just wrong.

Nurture switched from parents to friends as we reached adulthood.

Which is why optimizing your circle is so powerful.
SELF-LOVE IS A POWERFUL SKILL

After moving from CEO to Chairman, I didn't love myself.

I felt lost & didn't know who I was anymore.

I reflected & practiced gratitude to re-discover & re-love myself.

Once I got there, the lens through which I experienced everything shifted.
PASSION IS AN ACQUIRED TASTE

There are passionate people.

But people aren't immediately passionate about something.

Don't ask: "What am I passionate about?"

Ask: "What combines my skills, interests, and opportunities?"

Passion is a result born out of dedication & results.
Now, I'd love to hear from you!

What is 1 big lesson you learned in 2021 that we can all learn from?
