Most of Twitter is addicted to the engagement numbers so it's hard to leave, but once the quality of engagement on a decentralized social network surpasses the quality here the floodgates will open 🧡
The power that Twitter has to censor and control narratives is clearly problematic

3 yrs ago this was contrarian, now it's obvious to most
Less obvious but equally problematic is the misalignment in incentives between the company & users

The Twitter algorithm riles up users as much as possible to drive company revenue at the cost of user mental health & productivity
The problems above are true for all web2 social (Facebook, Youtube etc) but Twitter is most susceptible to disruption imo bc it's users are most curious, savvy and sensitive to quality of discussion (which continues to degrade)
Last year, @BitClout got a lot of attention because people recognize the need for a decentralized Twitter
BitClout's approach was flawed though

Twitter's primary advantage is clout so competing directly there is a losing battle
There are many decentralized social media entrants this yr. Most are focused on web3 tokens but not web3 infra

This is also flawed. While there's interest in tokens now, the real problem that needs to be solved is at the infra layer. If that's not core it will be hard to add on
What's really needed in decentralized social media is a platform that utilizes open, censorship resistant infra at its core and focuses on fostering quality human engagement that the Twitter algo lost a lot time ago
We're getting close 😈
