/ “Free Yourself” is my first sculpture in white marble, and it goes up for auction on @scarcedotcity this Tuesday.

Here’s a #thread explaining some of the work and thought process involved in carving a sculpture from marble using hammer and chisel.⚒

/ Carving stone has always been daunting to me. How do you even learn to do this? It’s a “lost art,” and our fiat driven society doesn’t make it easy to take on such a time consuming, low time preference art form.
/ @AlyseKilleen recommended a Michelangelo biography on @PrestonPysh’s podcast and reading it gave me the courage to free myself from the fear, uncertainty and doubt that has always followed me as an artist. www.amazon.com/Agony-Ecstasy-Biographical-Novel-Michelangelo/dp/0451171357
/There’s no more FUD in my creative process. Ever since I picked up a hammer and chisel a matter of months ago, I have been driven like never before. I have found my medium, and it is stone.
/ I have a full time job that I love, but for the last month working on this piece, I have spent just about every night and weekend chipping away, totaling roughly 160 hours to complete.
/ This piece began as an irregularly shaped piece of marble that I had intended to use for practicing techniques and textures, but I decided to take up the challenge of fitting a composition into the form.
