I think a lot of NFT x Music folks only see the potential positives of a campaign and may not be considering a lot of the drawbacks it may form in the fan / artist dynamic...
This head5.io campaign is still sitting around halfway minted and the vibe on the @discord can be strange sometimes.
@discord Some users (fans?) are pondering if the mint was a failure because it didn't sellout immediately. I believe their definition of failure is connected to the perceived worth of their NFT.
@discord Because of this, these /holders/ feel the need to question the marketing and integration support the head5 team is providing to a) sellout the NFTs and b) potentially increase the value of their purchases.
@discord They really do come off like mini stock holders wondering what the fuck the board is up to. Aren't we all supposed to make money together? That is a very strange fan / artist / artist team dynamic.
@discord I have also seen a lot of holders realizing that the $700 purchase they made was out of their financial range and are trying to offload their purchases to uhh.. pay to live?
@discord So you've got this weird dynamic of a poorly? received NFT campaign, incessant value naggers, and likely fans who have overspent to participate.
@discord This is a lot of the @discord conversation, as users count down the minting process one NFT at a time.
@discord I truly believe the @head5 team will meet the promises they've made. Increasing the value of NFT ownership was not one of them.
@discord @head5 Sadly, I do think a lot of the folks participating in this world (at the moment) are doing so with a financial motivation. Again, the language around all this stuff needs to change so true fan experiences can be created.
@discord @head5 @Deadmau5 is dealing with this negativity and he has put many many resources behind this play. What happens when another major artist makes a similar promise but doesn't have the resources to back it?
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 Perhaps a simple recalibration of "why we are doing this" would need to precede a non-financially motivated artist x fan NFT campaign.
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 Alternately, if meeting the expectations of all of your "stock holders" isn't your cup of tea, I would not charge $700 for your NFT and instead offer it up much cheaper or for free.
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 Sorry, another weird thing... someone is minting hundreds of these @head5 NFTs and "sweeping the floor" as they call it.
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 Rather than the heads being spread out across interested fans, they are being gobbled up by someone who is crypto rich. Could be a super fan... but I think it greatly affects the community aspect of this already potentially small community of owners.
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 Meaning... I wish I had 5000 individual fans participating vs. 1000 owners of 5 NFTs.
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 Anyway, I think you change the behavior of an actual fan when you drop them in a @discord with financially driven users.
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 So, I guess, be very careful. Ask, how you can turn those "stock holders" into fans or your art rather than your actual fucking fans into "stock holders?"
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 Or this is all going to really suck.
@discord @head5 @deadmau5 This seems to be resonating thanks to nudges from other thinkers in this space I really respect, like @cheriehu42.
