I was at a beautiful Memorial Day pool party with my best friends when I learned that my mother was complicit in my father raping my brothers.

My father had died.
The secrets were coming out.

My mother asked me, "Am I a bad mother because of what happened to your brother?"
I said, "Of course not! How could you - if you didn't know, you couldn't do anything about it."

The pause felt like centuries.

"I mean, if you didn't know, right mom?!"

that fucking pause

She admitted, "I knew, I just buried it so I could get on every day."
I don't remember the rest of the conversation but as a person who was raised to fawn, I am quite sure I made her feel better about it in some way.

I returned to my friends, stunned. In a total zombie-like state.

So many things fell into place. SO much made sense.

Why she was
apoplectic at my father bringing home a young mother with a small child. It seemed like the right thing to do. She was fleeing an abusive situation.

But my mother knew too well that she was walking into another abusive situation.

I remembered when I was 15 and my mother told me
to not let my dad be alone w a young neighbor boy. It made no sense at the time but now makes all the sense in the world.

She knew.

She knew and she let him do it.

Then - for the rest of my brother's life - she gaslighted him that it never happened. She admonished him to be
respectful to his dad. She blamed him for his addictions. She gave him tough love when what he needed was to be believed & helped.

She let him wander his days thinking that nobody believed him.
She let him be homeless.
She let him be discarded.

& she KNEW. She KNEW the whole
time.

She knew when he bought her diamonds & gold. She knew when he took her on cruises. She knew when they went to Mexico & donated books to an orphanage.

She knew and she let it happen anyway.

She served up the most vulnerable member of her family to appease the abuser.
Republicans knew.

Republicans knew that Trump was a mobster.

A cheat.
A thief.
A rapist.

A traitor.

They knew everything that he was AND THEY LET HIM DO IT.

They knew he was in league w our enemies and they held the door open for him.

They rolled out the red carpet.
And then they collaborated w him to harm the most vulnerable among us. They are serving up the people that need the most help.

They are letting our most vulnerable targets be stripped of education, social services, & protection.

And it makes sense. They are the same as he is.
They know - if they let him do what he wants - they get to take turns. They can rob our coffers. They make vulnerable populations with a swish of a budget pen. They can create a whole country of delicious targets. Every dream come true.

And all they have to do is let him do it.
My mom had hands heavy w gold and diamonds. She had vacations and new cars. She had nice clothes & fancy food.

While my brother was homeless. A victim. A target. Alone.

It was an easy choice for her. She didn't have to live it & she got all the benefits.

Just like republicans
The republicans have tipped the scales in advantage of the abusers. So every single one of them gets a turn.

It is time to tip the scales toward justice.
