"People who enjoy meetings should not be in charge of anything." - Sowell

Hard agree. But they're necessary.

My framework to make meetings actually productive, that you can steal:
3 things your team needs to know to keep moving the business forward:

• Why we do what we do
• What work actually matters
• What next step is in front of them

Here's how we cover this weekly:
INSPIRE:

Mission Is Everything

To have an obsessed team, repeat the dream.

Every week, I repeat our mission at Contrarian Thinking in varying forms.

“If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood & give orders. Teach them to yearn for the vast sea."
North Star

Mine is usually a weekly growth number.

3% growth means your businesses will usually 3-5x in a year.

Obsess on it & so will the team.
Winning is Fun

I include a weekly growth, product, or revenue winner.

Your team doesn't just do this for the money, they choose to spend their life working for YOU!
ALIGN:

Where We’re Going (and how we get there)

Knowing the destination isn't enough. We have to outline:

• Company KPIs
• Business Problems To Solve
• Company Roadmap
• Engineering/Product Roadmap

Less is more. 1-2 core KPIs/problems each.
Weekly Wassup

I spend 5-8 minutes steering the team's direction w/ a week update:

• Wins/Fails
• Business Problems Solved
• Team Achieved/Working On
• Your Insights From The Week
• Product Shipped/Working On
• Revenue + Customer Acquisition #s
From here, you can determine:

• Is the team aligned?
• What isn't working?
• What to double-down on?
• What are we doing inefficiently?
• Are you making quality decisions?
• Are we working on the right things?
Team Briefs

I don't know everything & no one wants to hear me talk nonstop.

So, each team lead:
• Provides data
• Takes questions
• Updates on their dept

Rules:
• 3 minutes ONLY
• Everything you say has to be relevant to everyone in the meeting
DIRECT:

Action Items

Talking around in a meeting for 60mins... and nothing gets decided.

My personal nightmare, so we systemize a solution.

On repeat, we ask:
• What's the action item?
• Who's taking charge?

Post-meeting, our VA tags everyone on their items.
Your ONE Thing

Everyone fills out their 1 thing.

Aka, if you're pulled in 17 different directions this week, prioritize THIS

(And it will make your life 17x easier)

A little public accountability never hurt anyone.
TL;DR: Want to scale revenue? It starts with your team.

Inspire, Align, Direct:

• Paint them the big picture
• Point their feet the same direction
• Give them their tactical next steps
CEO is just a captain, so steer.
