The Tempest - My Latest Books video is up now on my other channel "Great Books Explained". This is a play about a world where truth often bends to the will of those in power, where nations behave like isolated islands, about the abuse of power, the manipulation and control of the narrative, and about creating "truth" out of lies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rx8x...

Part Two of my Pollock video (Jackson pollock: fame, Death and the CIA) is out on Friday at 8pm (UK time). The response to part one was phenomenal (93k views and growing in only 4 days!!). I was blown away so thank you. If you haven't already please leave a comment (on the video, not here!) as it really helps drive engagement, as you know. It's a simple way to help my channel grow more. I've already started working on my Raphael video which should be out in a month or so. As usual I appreciate the amazing support of this wonderful arts community we have created. Best James

Coming this Friday at 8.45pm UK time is my latest GAE video, one I've been working on for a long time, "Jackson Pollock and the Abstract Expressionists". This video deals with many myths and legends surrounding Pollock (Who invented the drip technique? Did the CIA fund the Abstract Expressionists?), as well as how we should (at least) consider looking at this type of work. I have a LOT to discuss so it will be a longer than usual video. Also, BIG announcement coming this Thursday! Thanks, as usual for your support and for the wonderful arts community we have created. Take care, James

Just to let you know there's a new film dropping this Friday at 8.30pm (UK time). In this one I look at one of my favourite artists, Leonora Carrington, possibly the most extraordinary of the surrealists. She was a woman way ahead of her time, who refused to be seen as a muse or a protégé, and just forged her own strange path full of magic, mythical creatures, alchemy, and human-animal hybrids. I still have some last minute things to do with the film but it will be ready Friday. Thanks for all the support from this amazing artistic community - James

Coming tomorrow at 8:45pm (UK time). I hope you are ready to discover an artist you may not know so well, if at all! José Maria Velasco was once a household name, but is now practically unknown outside Mexico where he has iconic status. I discovered him myself recently and was astounded at his truly incredible talent. Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera have become synonymous with Mexican art, however, Velasco’s landscapes, particularly The Valley of Mexico pictured here, are powerful essays on nationalism and are often overlooked in these discussions of Mexican cultural identity. A brilliant artist, and I hope you enjoy! Best, James

Coming this Friday (8pm UK time) to my other channel "Great BOOKS Explained", is my introductory film on Shakespeare. I realise Shakespeare isn't everyone's cup of tea, but as someone (me) who once really disliked his work, but am now passionate about it, I really feel like my film will spark an interest in even the most ardent Shakespeare-hater.  This is Not a definitive history but rather a loving video essay with LOTS of my favourite film clips from some of the best Shakespeare interpreters (Cumberbatch, Olivier, Mirren, Branagh, Welles and more).  Give it a try - I really hope you like it! Best, James @greatbooksexplained371
