Nobel laureate F. A. Hayek (1899-1992) was one of the world's leading free-market economists and social philosophers. In this video from May 1, 1984, Hayek is interviewed at the University of Freiburg in Germany by James U. Blanchard III, chairman of the National Committee for Monetary Reform and a member of the Cato Institute's Board of Directors. Hayek discusses his book, "The Fatal Conceit," the development of money, monetary policy, the gold standard, Keynesian economics, and Margaret Thatcher.
