An excellent piece by @SigalSamuel on why and how we should slow down dangerous AI research. Addresses three of the most common counter-arguments from pro-AI industry propagandists.

A good short blog about AI risks, in which @GaryMarcus quotes some of my concerns. Tldr: we have only limited time to realize that we cannot and should not trust the AI industry to safeguard humanity's future.

If you have kids, and you care about them, you really should read this.

Interesting article, but it didn't include any evidence (beyondya few anecdotes) indicating that social connections formed at elite colleges had any causal benefit for careers.

It's a pretty good article. But it's so hard to take anyone seriously, including @jonathanchait, who feels obligated to repeat the far Left's mantra that 'systemic racism is the greatest crisis in America'.

Good thread, thanks. I stopped working on neural networks & machine learning in the mid-90s, partly because it seemed like the road to oblivion. Nothing that I've seen since then has convinced me to change my mind about that.

Excellent new essay on by @JonHaidt on the ethical/fiduciary duties of professors, & how mandatory 'diversity statements' (eg as required by @SPSPnews) violate those duties & debase the academy.

Good blog by @s8mb, @johnrmyers , & @bswud on the central importance of (bad) housing policy in lots of modern problems.
