In general, I dislike arguments for any cause (including basic science) which are just motivated reasoning by self-interested advocates: "more for my ingroup!" Of course, Press's job was to advocate for more science funding! But this article is unusually thoughtful & principled

My understanding is that the Antarctic still remains the source of a lot of uncertainty in climate models. This paper, for instance, is very interesting, from James Hansen et al:
