I was arrested 8-years ago this week for stealing from an Apple Store to support my 14-year drug habit. It’s been 8-years for me this week without painkillers/opioids. Life’s hard. For everyone. Friends and family saved me. Check in on your people…

Yes, rehab is for quitters. But it can be a beginning of something else. Something better. Even incrementally.
Multiple rehab stints.
Almost no one college or pro basketball DIDN’T know I had a drug problem from the moment I quit playing basketball. It’s such a loving fraternity — others didn’t find out.
I never kept it a secret.
Became good at hiding how much I was struggling.
Check on your people. Team game. End.
Ok one more thing:

“The t-Shirt I’m wearing in my mugshot is a Nike t shirt that says “Basketball Never Stops”. No bullshit.
Ok one last last thing.

Literally the easiest thing for me to have done at the time, fresh out of rehab, broke, financially and otherwise - would have been to put on that red MAGA hat and danced to their stupid fucking drum. Instant money. You know they asked. Repeatedly.😉
I would’ve been sleeping in the White House.
And - I mean broke. In debt.
To friends. Taxes. Family, etc.

Nothing else matters but the drugs.
It’s not ever easy. I struggle.
