Good little book, especially for beginning lifters. Lots of pages on nutrition, so if your nutrition game is weak, you might get something out of this. The lifting section is too short, but hits exactly the lifts that work (preaching to the choir).
I spent WAY too much money on this little tome, but I bought it mostly to support Zuby, who is a rational and reasonable thinker. I've never listened to his music. Have no idea if it is any good.
2020 book budget takes a huge jump as I spent $38 on this, bringing the total up to $335.88.
Zuby is known for his music, podcast, and political commentaries, but this book focused more on fitness. No politics or some other BS. Just about fitness.
I'm glad that I bought this book. I just recently started going back to the gym and I have been using the old approach that I used to do when I was in the university. Zuby made it more simple and much more rewarding. His techniques are a big help and good templates for beginners and returnees.
Zuby spends no time preaching a sermon nor pitching a political platform. But that doesn't mean that this book's advice cannot easily transfer over to more than just diet and exercise. Mr. Udezue has always spoken in a non-partisan manner about healthy actions in our lives, in every aspect of our lives. So even if Zuby added in any advice on anything other than what this book is geared towards, you can rest assured that it would be a good read still.
"The problem is that there's not a lot of money to be found in telling the truth, nor by giving genuine, actionable advice that people can understand and use long term." - Zuby U. I would say this is true but for the price we were willing to pay for this short book shows that when we believe in a cause and/or believe the author to be a truth-teller with good advice, you might very well get the money flowing with truth.
To simplify it, with no intention to take away from the book because ZU makes it a point to make this simple, you need to . "As with diet, I believe that it's important to ensure your training is simple, effective, time-efficient and sustainable." Udezue definitely makes it understandable and clear. He goes into more details for the things I stated simply. This book is probably best for the newcomer or the seasoned who has an overload of contradicting information. Go back to the basics and start with a fresh mind. It really is that simple.
A great straight forward and simplified approach to diet, gaining muscle and losing body fat. It’s a quick read that is just about the primary points for these goals.
Genuinely a boring book that is far too short on actual training information.
Why would anyone buy this instead of Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe? He would piss his pants laughing at this, and Zubys own numbers when watching his YouTube videos (his overhead press with dumbbells is around 20kg each). Honestly, why would anyone buy a book that does not advocate a low bar squat?
Hilarious to see other reviews state the book is too small (like Zuby's numbers) or that they didn't know he is a rapper (this explains his previous years of debt).
Well written, straight to the point, no faff, easy to follow and understand. Stuff that we think we already know, Zuby breaks it down so it is complete AND understandable. The first time I've thought this is a lifestyle change I can sustain.
Great for beginners. If you already have a basic knowledge of nutrition and weight training, this may not be the book for you, but if you're looking for something not overly complex to start you out and point you in the right direction this book definitely serves that purpose.
The book is very simple and covers all the aspects needed for training and nutrition. It has covered most of the information that I gained from reading articles and watching videos in the same topic.
This books is excellent. As a former athlete now fat-guy looking to reverse the trend, this books is a simple, no nonsense approach to nutrition, and fitness. Definitely worth your time.
I found this book to be short but it is well written and it gets straight to there point when it comes to fitness and nutrition. In my opinion, it's simple and straightforward to follow for anyone who desires to improve their fitness and health. This book written by none other than Zuby who is a rational and reasonable speaker that always keeps it 100.
