There were a couple of confusing parts, but overall this was still so well done and hilarious. I'm going to immediately dive into the next installment!

The plot thickens…
…in this second book, you’ll get quite a bit about Scott Pilgrim’s past!
If you watched the movie, isn’t a secret that Kim Pine is a former girlfriend of Scott Pilgrim, but one thing is knowing the fact, and other being able to watch how was their relationship!
Trust me, you won’t be able to see Kim Pine in the same way, again!
That’s amusing that even when you think that you know what to expect (or more acurate, that you know that everything is possible in the looney world of Scott Pilgrim) that when you meet a scene that it’s just like something out of AKB48: Majisuka Gakuen, Samurai Girl: Real Bout High School and/or Ikki Tousen, you need some seconds to realize that what you just watched (and read), really happened and it’s not an illusion or a dream! (and by the way, a cool and funny scene that you only get by reading the Canadian manga series).
Also, you get to meet a new character (that you didn’t get in the movie!) which is Lisa, in the flashbacks of Scott’s High School days, that no doubt it will have some future impact in the present of the story in following volumes.
And you meet the first band of Scott that it wasn’t Sex Bob-Omb! Nope! There was another first.
Back in the present of our tale…
It wasn’t easy for Scott (and he didn’t do it in the proper way and it wasn’t after several advices/threats from his both “consciences” aka Stacey and Wallace that he must break up with Knives if he’d keep seeing Ramona) but finally he told Knives Chau that it was better that they should break up (of course he didn’t mention the Ramona Flowers factor in the equation). However, Knives didn’t take it well (no doubt since he didn’t it do it properly) and if you add a new ninja psychotic phase of Knives, well…
…let’s just say that Ramona’s health is in danger (along with the insurance of the Toronto’s Reference Library!) (and yes, another exclusive scene of the mangas), but don’t worry too much since Ramona has her moves too.
Cat Fight! On!
But Knives’ revenge plans won’t limit to attack Ramona, oh no, she will try to become an improved version of Ramona (as if!) and finally, Knives must get Scott jealous (at least that’s her goal) so she will hit in the inner circle of Scott’s friends, obviously right in the weakest link.

There isn’t much about Lucas Lee and Ramona Flowers’ past relationship and it won’t be much about his fight againt Scott (while it’s quite similar to the one in the movie, over there you’ll get a longer fight in comparison with the one in the manga).
The really interesting part will be the “sneak preview” of the incoming third round (stay tuned in the third volume!) since Envy Adams (extra cool (but Ramona is still cooler) lead singer of The Clash at Demonhead, one of the hottest profesional bands in Canada (with discographic contract and all the stuff) and former girlfriend of Scott Pilgrim (poor Knives barely would be able to deal with that fact) and current girlfriend of Todd Ingram (Ramona Flower’s third ex–boyfriend).
you’ll get the picture that almost everybody here is former boyfriend/girlfriend of somebody else in the cast but also current boyfriend/girlfriend of somebody else.

Grrrrr, I spent the last 2 hours trying to write a musical version of this review - it was titled “Battling For Love” and I’ll include what I’ve got at the end - because it’d be appropriate as Scott’s in a band and he writes simple, terrible songs. But it’s too hard so I’ve given up! I always knew I wasn’t a songwriter but now you know too.
(It was weirdly a waltz-y tune. I think that was because I was trying to cram in too many words so it needed to be slow-ish. Also I changed the rhyming scheme in the second verse for no reason. That’s one thing I learned about songwriting: it’s not the chords, it’s the words but mostly the tempo that are important. Actually, scrap that, I don’t know what I’m talking about! I still like the chorus and title though.)
ANYWAY: back to doing it the more mundane way! Scott Pilgrim Volume 2 is bloody fantastic like the first volume! Scott’s roommate Wallace pressures him into breaking up with Knives, his 17 year old high school girlfriend, as he’s two-timing her with Ramona Flowers, the pink-haired girl who’s swept Scott off his feet. Unsurprisingly, Knives doesn’t take it well and decides to battle Ramona while Scott has to battle Lucas Lee, Ramona’s second Evil Ex-Boyfriend.
The book is so full of small amazing moments that made me laugh. Scott’s dad has a cameo at the start and he’s in all of two panels but leaves an impression: he’s got this shit-eating grin when he’s teasing Scott about his latest girlfriend that was ridiculously funny. I also loved his parents calling him up from Europe and heckling him when he’s in bed and there’s an entire mini-saga about Scott’s haircut! Comedy genius, thy name is Bryan Lee O’Malley!
There’s melodramatic comic-book action galore. An awesome fight in the rain as Scott battles for Kim Pine in a flashback to high school at the start, there’s an epic battle between Knives and Ramona in the mall, and Scott and Lucas’ fight was just as cool as it was in the movie (right before Chris Evans became Captain America forever!).
Kim Pine gets a lot more attention in this book as we see her past with Scott and her current life, adding a touch of melancholy to this perfect recipe of a comic (there’s also the perfect recipe for vegan shepherd’s pie included here too!). Love Kim. Love Scott too, even if he’s inadvertently a bit of a jerk sometimes - he’s too good a character to dislike and keeps making me laugh too.
I can’t say a single bad thing about this second book - it’s the (sex) bob-omb! A perfect comic that gets better with re-readings and now has a snazzy new look thanks to Nathan Fairbairn’s colourful treatment. Scott Pilgrim vs The World is like wrapping yourself up in a warm flapjack amidst the cold stale toast of (too many) other comics - recommended to anyone with a pulse!

Our son David dragged us to see the movie on Saturday. Elisabeth slumbered fitfully, waking up occasionally to see if it was getting any better and generally deciding it wasn't. I thought it was interesting at an abstract level, and I found several scenes funny or sexy, but I had to admit that I couldn't really appreciate it. I also felt rather sleepy at times. David looked both superior and a little embarrassed. "Well, it's really a movie for my generation," he admitted.
The startling realisation that struck me about ten minutes in is that video games have now become culture! Since I've never played Mortal Kombat or anything similar, it was like watching a movie in a foreign language. Admittedly a language where I had some passive vocabulary, but none the less. I had to hand it to them - structuring a romcom as a video game was clever, and judging from other people's reactions it worked. Several times, I caught myself thinking that, if only I'd known, I would have done a bit of Tekken first to get the literary background. You know, like reading The Odyssey before attacking Ulysses, or Mrs Dalloway before The Hours.

As a package this quasi-Anime rock 'n'roll Canadian romantic quasi-action adventure with a rich vein of dark humour is a pleasant read, one that I sort of what to know more about the characters, but is also a bit of a slacker dream reality of slacker male, with no job, great fighting skills, in a band and with a shit load of female attention, kind of has me feeling sympathy and empathy with some of the supposedly enraged past girlfriends. Still it's a stand alone work that will have longevity for it's weirdness as much as its humour and irreverence. 6 out of 12.

I thought this was better than the first book. I enjoyed this one. They even took a trip to the library in this one. It was the scene of an epic fight. I thought Scott was supposed to fight 7 evil ex-boyfriends and he didn't fight one in this one, but his girlfriend fought an ex-girlfriend.
There are lots of unexpected and quicky things happening here. It is full of surprises. I thought the characters were better in this one too. I like Ramona as a character. She is awesome. Scott was much better in this one than the last one, so I think that is why I enjoyed it more.
The cover is in color and the book itself is black and white. I got used to it. It's a fun story.

The second episode in the Scott Pilgrim series was less fun than the first one. Some of the characters look too similar and I have a hard time telling them apart. The text is minuscule sometimes and my old fart eyes have a hard time reading it. The storyline is pretty basic. I did like the fight between Ramona and Knives (she is a badass!) but wish he has made her 18 instead of 17 because it feels too much like statutory rape should Scott ever go all the way (unless one of my Canuck readers can tell me that the age of consent in Canada is 16 or 17 rather than 18?). I will continue on to the 3rd volume hoping to get more backstory though. Other friends/followers have read the 6 volumes? What did you think?

The Scott Pilgrim books are cute, but this is one of those almost nonexistent situations where I prefer the film adaptation. (Don't throw bricks at me!)

Also he officially ends up things with Knives, then she goes all crazy and wants to kill Ramona ( I bet you didnt see that coming ). Let me see, what else? Oh yeah, Envy calls ( Envy is Scott’s ex, the one who broke his heart) and i'm guessing nothing good will come out of that.

The first volume was not that great to begin with, but this second one was even worse. The plot was all over the place and really absurd. I'm not sure if I'm going to continue on with the series.

Day 4 of the 7 consecutive days of comic book reviews on the WondrousBooks blog.
I love these books. It has taken a really long time to return to the next volume of Scott Pilgrim's adventures, but it has totally been worth it.
There is one thing I adore about the entire story: it is insane.
And they do not care. Weird things keep happening in this otherwise normal world, sometimes there are superpowers, sometimes it looks like a computer game, sometimes completely insane stuff happen and nobody bats an eyelash.
I absolutely love this atmosphere of "You can do whatever you want". Because that is literally how O'Malley operates. He takes the events wherever he wants them and nothing is too out there, while at the same time the weirdness is contained and not offensive. There are other series that I like that use the method of making you shocked by just using disgusting stuff to throw you off, but in Scott Pilgrim, the kooky stuff are still mostly innocent. While this is still not a children's books... But in Bulgaria people assume comic books are for kids so that's where I found this series and I think that will result in some very disturbed children.
I read the first volume in black and white and it was pretty fun reading this one in color. Definitely an interesting experience, though I did have this feeling like the book was not much different without the colors, like everything was so neatly described that I did not need actual colors.
I was looking forward to seeing the second evil ex, because he was played by my favourite Chris Evans, so that was fun, yet not as good as I expected, because the trade-mark eyebrows from the movie were not nearly as interesting in the book. They did have a similar shape, but later on I noticed other characters get the same thing in some situations.
I have a serious problem with Scott himself. He is sooo bad, the is lazy, not exactly intelligent, does not possess many qualities or talents to begin with and is kind of dull. And yet, I find the story interesting, which means that there are so many factors adding to him not being overwhelmingly annoying.
Therefore, awesome read! I recommend the entire series!

This series is really brilliant. I am reading it because of the movie, of course, which is also brilliant, and a faithful adaptation of the book. In the book, Ramona and Scott make a lit more sense together. I love the conversations and the little jabs at each other. I particularly enjoy Kim and her sarcastic deadpans. I must say the fight with evil ex #2 was way better in the movie (the stunt guys are not in the book). On the other hand, the book offers historical insight into Scott Pilgrim’s high school days, and the formation of the band. Knives Chau is fantastic, her portrayal in the movie got her perfect, or I should say she was even better in the movie.
Overall, such a great young adult series. I love the use of the graphic format, too. Those little info boxes about people are great, and there is a lot of inventive framing, like the one in Scott’s phone call with Envy. I wish I got it in color. The first one was on Amazon prime in color, but this one is from the library (which is finally open, woohoo!), and it is the original black and white. Still great though. I am continuing as I need something light right now.

Review from a mother of a 13 year old:
Mothers across the world.... I feel it is ok to let your kids (13 and up) read Scott Pilgrim.
* There are only 2 cuss words in this book which will make your kid squeal in delight but will also make them want to read more (which is our secret maser mind plan. Let them feel like they are reading something naughty but in return they keep reading in hopes that they will see another swear word)
* Scott Pilgrim does NOT drink booze. He's 23 and doesn't drink. So, that's a good wholesome value. But his friends drink... but hey... that's gonna happen in real life. Plus, he's over 21 (wait... he's canadian... what's the legal age there?) so if he wanted to get his drink on he could. But for the sake of our children he doesn't drink.
* Scott doesn't smoke AT ALL! He actually thinks smoking is evil. He could be the poster boy for an anti-smoking campaign. Sure he thought this one chick that was smoking was hot... but he still thought she was evil. Yet another life lesson for our kids. Smokers might be hot but it's still evil.
Now... there is one ... wait... maybe 2 scenes in here that I'm pretty sure were sexual. It's really tame... I've seen worse in Garfield cartoons. Like, there is this one pannel where Scott touches Ramona's thigh (that's his grilfriend) and she's in her undies... so you see a black v of ink on her torso. Oh la la... but hey... I'd rather my 13 year old look at that then go for something like Hustler ;) See!! Wholesome values!!

For instance: Color is spelled - coloUr
Why's the U there? Is it because they want to be British? And why is there a queen on their money? Ramona (who is America -- I know!! She's living in Canada and dating a Canadian -- but it's ok... she must have a green card or something) asks about the queen but Scott doesn't really give us a straight answer. So, I'll just go on the theory that they are the Europeans of North America.
They also spell CHECK - cheQUE.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Wold is about the second evil ex boyfriend. I love how in the book how if someone in the book doesn't understand what's going on then you should read the 1st book. Loves that.
The movie pretty much goes along with the book except for the face-off with the second evil ex. That's a bit different in the movie... just a bit... it still ends the same way.
I am really enjoying these. They're a fun way to spend an hour and a half. They are nice and short and actually take me back to when I was in high school. Where were these when I was in high school? Oh wells.... they're entertaining me now :)

As Scott and Ramona’s romance is heating up, his personal life turns into a wild 2-D beat em up game as his past romance comes to haunt him and his recent ex Knives learns about Ramona and is about to go at her. Meanwhile, he’s up against Ramona’s evil ex two: skater Lucas Lee and his own evil ex, devious Envy Adams. A (100%/Outstanding)

Well, this is certainly a quick read. If I'd read a two hundred and thirty pages of Hellboy or Blueberry, I could have tackled four or five full story arcs by now, but with Scott Pilgrim, I feel like I'm still waiting for the story to kick in. It's very soap opera: who is dating who, who used to date who, which would be more intriguing if I were interested in the characters, but they've stayed pretty flat.
In my review of the first book, I mentioned how self-absorbed and dull all the characters are, comparing them to Holden Caulfield, so I had a laugh when one of the characters starts reading Catcher in this volume. Then again, characters with little empathy or self-awareness can be appealing to a certain kind of young adult.
There's very little introspection in general, the story touches superficially on a lot of parts of childhood, especially trends, but almost never turns a critical eye on them. Everything is taken for granted, not only by the characters, but seemingly by the author.
A good author can take dull, self-centered characters and use them to make certain observations about the world, or about human psychology, and a lot of authors do this, but so far, what you get from Scott Pilgrim is what's written on the page.
I suppose this is why the author takes so many pages to start his story: without any levels of meaning or complexity, he has no shorthand for introducing ideas. He has to introduce everything plainly, and often redundantly.
O'Malley tries to reign in our interest by making constant veiled references to the characters' past relationships, only to have them interrupted or refuse to go into it. It's a fairly artificial way to build suspense for the story, and as he keeps foreshadowing the same revelations over and over, by the time they arrive they are hardly surprising.
The most interesting part so far has been recognizing Toronto landmarks that I visited as a kid, including the beautiful Casa Loma.
The comic is somewhat reminiscent of the Archie comics, revolving around the back-and-forth nature of relationships, but O'Malley isn't funny, not even in a hokey Archie way. He seems to have fallen into the trap that plagues all unimaginative writers trying to capture 'real lives' and 'real relationships': he forgets that truth is stranger than fiction, and that if you can't make your fiction strange, it will be duller than truth.
Now, he does have some fantastical elements, magic, fight scenes and all that, but they aren't really that odd or original; they're homages, not commentary, and come off as cliche to anyone familiar with internet subcultures and their humor about videogames, anime, and pop culture. Despite the presence of urinals in museums, you can't simply point at things and expect the audience to find them profound: you've got to do the footwork.
All in all, so far Scott Pilgrim feels very much like a mid-level webcomic. It centers on the author's life and experiences, harping on in-jokes and hobbies, but lacks the character, narrative structure, wit, or art that sets good webcomics apart.
My Suggested Reading In Comics

The name of this review should be "Scott Pilgrim Continues to be a Dick".
Ugh, why can't he just break up properly with his 17 year old girlfriend? What a douche.
The redeeming features are some of the other characters such as Ramona. The motivation to keep going with these novels is that hopefully the last novel starts with Ramona waking up to herself, dumping his ass followed by scenes of his decline into drug addiction and death by overdose. Too mean?

I'm really enjoying the color editions of this series. The color adds a lot of life to the comic. The battle with Lucas Lee, the second evil ex, was a lot shorter than I was expecting. Also, the more that I read of this, the sorrier I feel for Knives and Kim. Basically, Scott Pilgrim is a terrible human being.

GIRL FIGHT!
I have to calm myself first to try to at least give Scott Pilgrim vs. The World a bit decent review.
The story of Scott Pilgrim was a little bit mushy and stupid sometimes but what got me hooked to this graphic novel is the FIGHTS!. Frames and illustrations are ok. The story, more catchy and a big cliffhanger at the end.
I would not go back as far as to tell you what happend on the first book and as Scott puts it, read the book sometimes, hehehehe. But to this second installment of Scott Pilgrim, new characters were introduced like Envy, ex-girlfriend of Scott Pilgrim. The lead singer of The Clash at Demonhead. After the break-up, Scott live his life in a blurr and now she's back to crash his soul. Todd was also shown, the third evil ex-boyfriend of Ramona.
Let's now get into the details of the fights. It's the classic style that I really liked, same as the older graphic novels that could not be seen nowadays. It's the BOOM! POW! SWOOSH! and BLAG in every frames of the fights that got me excited. Fights are a bit the same as the DANGER stage of a Mario Brothers game way back Nintendo days (Geek Alert! hehehehe). Scott gain coins after the fight is finished and sometimes (if his lucky) a gift would appear. The fight between Scott and Lucas Lee (the second evil ex-boyfriend of Ramona)is a bit lame so let's skip that part and go straight to the fight of Knives Chau (17 yr old, recent ex-girlfriend and a self-confessed Scottaholic) and Ramona Flowers (recent girlfriend of Scott, the reason why this graphic novel was made on the first place). Knives became a bit of a stalker and decided that if she eliminates Ramona, Scott will go back to her. The fight happened (of all the places)in a library. Knives looks like an effin ninja chick jumpin from one floor to another while Ramona fights like a character from Tekken. Epic battle!

Now on the second volume of my Scott Pilgrim reread.
The second chapter is still good but I'm reminded that Scott spent a lot of time here feeling the gut punch of an ex-girlfriend calling on phone. It is as bad as it sounds, as it rendered our hero into a fetal position barely able to make audible sound. Scott didn't even get to punch the second ex Ramona boyfriend.
It makes it up though in the final canto of this volume. The trio receiving a few revelations was a hoot. Knives dumbstruck at the fact that Scott used to date her idol Envy Adams and our new couple Ramona and Scott realizing that indeed their exes were seeing each other. A very excellent set-up for the third volume.
This is a reread but I still can't wait to move on to the third volume.

I've read Precious Little Life recently, and I wanted to revisit the best Scott Pilgrim moments. I figured that the best ones were in the first half of the series. It's been a while since I've read all six books, and since I read a lot, information creep might have set in, but I do know I wanted to see Scott mee Envy Adams again after their breakup, and I figure I might as well get volume to complete the trilogy.
I originally read the series in black and white, as well as my recent re-read of volume one, but for volumes two and three, I thought I wanted to try the newer colored editions that were released a few years back, and experience it differently on my iPad.
Volume three was where the author began to expand the nascent Scott Pilgrim universe by giving the rest of the supporting cast something to do. The main event was the doubleheader between Scott and Ramona's respective exes; Scott versus Lucas Lee, and Ramona versus Knives. The rest of the cast got their chance to shine when their roles where expanded. Wallace had more stuff to do now, than just being Scott's gay roommate. Kim Pine got to star along Scott in his own flashback origin story during their time together in high school. Kim revealed herself to be Scott's ex, but she's the more balanced of Scott's former flames. Stephen Stills the talent got more panels, as well as Scott's sister Stacey.
One thing that I really liked about this volume would have to be the real life locations depicted here that serve as backdrop to Scott's adventures in Toronto. My favorite wold have to be the Toronto Reference Library, where Ramona and Knives had their match, and lovingly depicted by the author. I think it's a cool place to visit if you're in Toronto.
Heartbreak would have to be the theme for this volume. It's bookended by Knives, after Scott broke up with her, and Scott facing the prospect of revisiting his own with Envy. The two react differently, with Scott reduced to an incoherent mess and Knives wanting to better herself in order to win Scott back, even if she has to fight Ramona for him.
The color adds depth to the illustrations and gave this long time reader a new experience in revisiting these pages. It's a veritable visual feast. Still, my memories of the original black and white editions are already in color in my memories.

I really feel like I have done Scott Pilgrim a disservice (I gave the first book 3 stars) :/ and now I am going to rectify my grave error by announcing that yes, I can be a massive idiot at times!
The reason I gave the first book 3 stars was because I really didn't "get" a lot of it; the story didn't seem entirely connected, it has gaming connotations which I don't understand and I found Scott to be a bit of a douche and didn't much like him.
HOWEVER...having watched the film over the weekend and seen Michael Cera's interpretation of Scott's character, I can wholeheartedly say that my perception of him has changed...for the better! Cera really emphasises Scott's naivety which was completely lost on me in the first book and showed me that he wasn't as heartless and cruel as I originally thought he was. He's a simple guy in love, and where love is concerned, things always get a bit complicated.
So, now that I have re-interpreted Scott Pilgrim, I can appreciate the things he says and his reactions/behaviour. :)
This second volume follows his relationship with (my new girl crush) Ramona Flowers, who has funky hair whilst Scott's ex, Knives Chau is out for revenge. She dyes her hair in the same fashion as Ramona and totally lets rip in the reference library. Elsewhere, Scott defeats Ramona's second evil-ex boyfriend, Lucas Lee, in a somewhat ingenious way and discovers who his third rival is.
Pilgrim also gets ribbed by his parents (especially his dad) regarding his new girlfriend and whether she's cute (seriously, the dad's expression is hilarious - talk about shit-stirring!) Wallace Wells is as cool as ever and Kim Pine gets more coverage concerning her past relationship with Scott which is lovely (my other girl crush).
Oh...and Scott also receives a phone call from his ex, Envy Adams, who broke his heart. There's definitely more to come in that saga.
I think what really stands out to me in this book is the dialogue - how effortlessly comical it is, the reactions of the various characters and the inner turmoil Scott experiences throughout.
I will re-read the first Scott Pilgrim book in the future because I know for a fact that the rating would be much higher having now seen the light.

OMG how fun are these books? So ridiculously fun. Scott is such a silly dork, such a (mostly) lovable idiot. Obvs there's a lot more characterization here than in the films; Knives' fight with Ramona is awesome, everyone's silly insults and awful comebacks are hilarious, I love love love Wallace Wells so fucking fierce. There's even a recipe for vegan shepherd's pie! Plus you can read the whole book while you're waiting for your laundry to finish, thus letting you forget that you're in a hot, crowded, too-bright but sweet-smelling communal hole with a creepy bald guy leering at you and women beating their children and it's raining outside and this isn't your book so you can't even go out and smoke because you don't want to ruin the book but omg if that lady in the tattered sweatpants doesn't stop snoring and leaning closer and closer to my shoulder I'm going to freak the fuck out. Hypothetically.
