Nupirkau draugės vaikams, ta proga ir pati perskaičiau. Kaip ir daugelyje "Tikra knyga" knygų - stiprioji pusė yra iliustracijos / piešiniai (NUOSTABŪS), o tekstas kartais ne visai sukimba. Šiuo atveju to teksto buvo gana daug ir gana sudėtingo - aptariamos daugybė temų, nuo ekologijos iki istorijos ir estetikos, žodynas gana sudėtingas. O gal aš per prastai galvoju apie šešiamečius??? Vykdysiu tyrimą, ar "sueis".

Brīnišķīgi pavadīts laiks kopā ar puiku - lasījām, pētījām, pārrunājām. Viņš teica, cik skaistas bildes, es arī teicu, cik skaisti. Ļoti, ļoti patīk grāmatas krāsu palete un estētika, bet arī teksti ir dziļdomīgi un izaicinoši poētiski.

«Kas ir upe?» ir burvīga grāmata, kura atgādina (jo mēs patiešām to ļoti bieži aizmirstam), cik dažādi mēs esam, pat ja ģīmji mums pēc vienas līdzības. Cik dažādi uz vienām un tām pašām lietām spējam (un nespējam) skatīties. Upes ir mūsu planētas asinsvadu sistēmas. Vissvarīgākais fragments – bezgalīgais stāsts. Monika Vaicenavičiene ir talantīga bērnu grāmatu autore, es tam spēju noticēt, pat ja «Kas ir upe?» ir vienīgā autores grāmata, kura līdz šim nonākusi mūsu mājās. «Kas ir upe?» ir ļoti gudra grāmata. Ļoti skaistu ilustrāciju pārbagāta grāmata...

Wat is een rivier? Tekst en illustraties door: Monika Vaicenavicienè.
Wat een prachtig boek, qua vorm, inhoud en uitvoering. Op de achterkant lees ik dat het verschillende prijzen heeft gewonnen en dat is volkomen terecht. Dit is een pareltje! (Wiebel zeker eens met het boek in het zonlicht, dan zie je de rivier schitteren!)
Is dit een kinderboek, een prentenboek, een voorleesboek? Ja, dat is het. Maar het is ook zo veel meer. Het is poëtisch (in woord en beeld), het is filosofisch, aardrijkskundig, geschiedkundig milieubewust makend. Je leert er iets van bij en het ontroert je. Daarnaast is het ook gewoon een prachtig verhaal om (voor) te lezen en bij weg te dromen. De ontroerend mooie tekenstijl neemt je mee en laat je drijven op een bed van verwondering.
Ik hou van water, rivieren, ‘mijn’ Schelde. Ik wil erin pootje baden en zwemmen, ik wil de zon er in zien schitteren, de bomen er in zien weerspiegelen. Niet voor niets bevat mijn rugtattoo een rivier.
Dit boek is een prachtig eerbetoon aan iets kleins maar ook iets groots, iets wat we allemaal kennen en meer moeten koesteren: een rivier.

Gekocht in de kinderboekwinkel van m'n jeugd en dezelfde dag al gelezen. Ik was op slag verliefd op de prachtige illustraties vol details, zachte kleurenpaletten, textuur, variatie en diepgewortelde emotie. Het verhaal is prachtig gelaagd en ook nog eens informatief. De kinderboekenliefhebber in mij is erg gelukkig.

November 8, 2021Nuostabios iliustracijos. Močiutė pasakoja anūkei, kas yra upė: namai, atmintis, atspindys... Labiausiai sudomino upė - tai energija, nes čia kalbama apie krioklius. Kadaise Pietų Amerikoje egzistavo Gvairios krioklys, kurio šniokštimas girdėjosi už 30 km, tačiau pastatė Itaipu užtvanką ir krioklio nebeliko.
Knyga, skirta skaityti vaikams, bet ne skaityti patiems vaikams - šriftas nuostabiai meniškas, bet besimokančiam skaityti būtų sudėtingas.

There's a river of information in this meandering book, history, facts (golly, the Congo River is deep and strong!), creatures, explanations, all the things rivers do for us, all the things we do to rivers, and a sweet story of a girl and her grandmother sitting and talking by the side of the river. Breathtaking illustrations by the author exhibit the same mashup as the text - poetry and fact, depiction and labeling, a collection of fish and hovering moments of sheer beauty. Brava.

"Grandma, what is a river?" a little girl asks. "A river is a thread" she answers. I have to admit, I kind of groaned to myself as I read this, thinking it might be one of those books that goes over kids' heads. But it decidedly wasn't. It was fantastic, filled with facts but it's structured around ideas that are expanded upon. For example, a river is a home, it's energy, it's history; from those themes, fascinating details are learned. Highly recommended. I think the sweet spot for this is grades 3-5.

I loved this picture book about rivers and all the different aspects about them. The illustrations were fascinating to look at, and a main reason why I loved the book, even though the were a bit primitive in form. I read this to my 10- and 13-year-old kids over 2 days. My daughter wants it to be known that she didn't like it. Otherwise I might have given it 5 stars.

Daugybę apdovanojimų pelniusi edukacinė paveikslėlių knyga užburia savo iliustracijomis. Tai išskirtinė knyga ir mažam, ir dideliam. Norisi tiesiog grožėtis, skaityti, panerti, atsigaivinti, nusiraminti ir pasisemti įkvėpimo. Este libro informativo cuenta historias acerca de los ríos, comienza con una abuela contándole a su nieto sobre los ríos, ya sea sobre las primeras civilizaciones que se asentaron en los ríos, datos curiosos o científicos, cómo se distribuyen los ríos, etc. Las ilustraciones del libro son mayoritariamente realistas y pintadas con lápices de colores, aunque también encuentras dibujos más sencillos y pintados con acuarela. La portada es interesante ya que tiene un color super llamativo que capta tu atención. El libro podría mejorar la distribución del texto dentro de éste, ya que es muy extenso y no se cumple la finalidad de leerlo activamente. Lo que destaca del libro son sus ilustraciones, debido a que son muy parecidas a la realidad, dándole un aspecto realista al lector. Ganó el premio Dilys en 2002. Este libro es ideal para niños de 4 a 8 años.

This is a long text for picture-book nonfiction (I actually skipped some pages, as I'm trying to get this returned ASAP), and will probably get the most attention for its handwriting font that might be mistaken for Oliver Jeffers. But it's a very poetic nonfiction book about rivers. From Enchanted Lion Books.

One of the most beautiful and poetic documentaries I've read in the last many years. Both the text and the illustrations are masterful and together they weave this amazing album about the many lives and meanings of rivers across the world. An ecopoetic book for children, but also for adults who are searching to enchant again the natural world, especially the rivers that are too often taken for granted or considered as resources to harness and control.

The visual and design elements of this book are breathtaking, and enhance the outstandingly thorough research and language for this picture book examination of the circulatory cycles of our planet. With both scientific and poetic insights, this isa must-have for both study and inspiration about the role and value of rivers to every person on Earth, present, past, and future.

This is an amazing, longer picture book. It reminds me of Dianna Hutts Aston’s books (A Seed is Sleepy, for one) because each page explains one more description of a river (history, depth, energy, connection…). There are so many things to explore in the illustrations.

I wanted to teach my kids about rivers in a way that encompassed more than just geographical or scientific facts. I love the way this shared broader ideas of what rivers mean to us. Some of the ideas are difficult to relay to children and we did have to break it up over 2 days, but the book covers exactly the information I wanted to share with beautiful art.

Graži ir jautri istorija, padedanti suprasti ir pajausti upės prasmę, ... Nuostabūs pastebėjimai, apie upes, jųs "gyvenimą", istoriją, ir "tekėjimą sava vaga"... Labai trumputė bet įkvepianti pažintinė istorija.

This had a lot of information about rivers! There is a lot of history and info about the river ecosystems. At the beginning, I thought the book was very lyrical but I did find it a bit wordy as I continued to read. I also wasn't a huge fan of the illustrations.

Here is a fine example of the importance of including global literature in the school library. This translated title serves both as a companion to studying water and a stand alone read on the importance of caring for the earth's most important nature: water.
