Carve out some time to read Yestermorrow because once you pick it up you won't be able to put it down.

Frasier has put together a break-neck speed story that manages to take time travel and add a whole new spin to it. I won't go into how it's different because that's spoiler territory but there's a sequence where I could see it all happening in my head like it was a film and that's one of my absolute favourite experiences as a reader.

As the title says Yestermorrow is a prequel and I can't wait to see where Frasier's next book takes me!

I devoured this in one sitting. Time travel tales can be tricky things. You can get lost up your own paradox. You constantly end up going back and changing things, to ensure the story ends up just right. And that’s what happens to Luca, our hero? He is attempting to put right one devastating event, which, in turn, unravels others. There’s a boat, a travel agent and mysterious henchmen. What more could you want. Until you see the light. No more spoilers though. Read it. It’s fab.

Review: Yestermorrow by Frasier Armitage

Synopsis

With his daughter lying in a coma and a death sentence hanging over his head, Luca’s time-distorting research that will sort this mess can’t finish quickly enough. Although, once successful, the past and the future will be fixed and all of Luca’s bad decisions will be erased. But with a mysterious organisation after his invention and a lot of mistakes to fix, is Luca’s time running out?

Review

Yestermorrow is a prelude to Armitage’s forthcoming book, New Yesterday. And if you want to confuse yourself, order yourself a copy and wait for the “arriving tomorrow: Yestermorrow email”.

This novella, in true Armitage style, is lightning quick from the off. The pace and tone accelerate as Luca turns from doting father trying to rescue (or pre-rescue, I suppose) his daughter to sprinting through an increasingly unravelling time tunnel. Luca’s life knits together and falls apart in equal measure as his desperate bid to save his daughter gathers momentum. The book transposes from past to present with the decisions and actions showing their present day consequences side by side. The fact that these are scrubbed and altered Butterfly Effect style as the plot ramps up only heightens the reading experience.

As a standalone novel the time splitting hook is more than enough to have had me rifling through the 200 pages in breakneck speed. The concept of being able to rewrite our lives to cut out the bad decisions is played out really nicely here, while staying true to the “get in, there’s no time to explain” style of sci-fi that Armitage does so well.

Carpe Hesterno Die

With Christmas coming up there’s few stocking fillers that would fit the bill for your time bending sci-fi fan than Yestermorrow. I loved tearing through time in this story and I will certainly be checking out New Yesterday.

"Yestermorrow" is a thrilling time-travel story that will leave you on the edge of your seat. This prequel to Frasier Armitage's New Yesterday takes the concept of time travel and gives it a unique twist that will leave readers guessing until the very end.

The story follows Luca, a scientist who is desperate to save his daughter from a coma. He discovers a way to refract time and alter the past, but quickly realizes that others will do anything to get their hands on the same power. As Luca is hounded by a mysterious figure with a gun, he struggles to save his daughter while keeping his marriage from falling apart.

Frasier's storytelling is fast-paced and cinematic, with scenes that play out like a movie in the reader's mind. The time-travel sequences are particularly impressive, and the author's unique spin on the concept will keep readers guessing until the very end. While I was reading it, I couldn't help but picture it as an 80s/90s American action movie.

Frasier Armitage weaves an intricate and bold story that will leave readers breathless with anticipation, especially knowing that this is a prequel to an upcoming novel, New Yesterday.

Nobody should unlock the fabric of reality on an empty stomach.

A proficient, unique, twisty take on time travel. With its intellectual explanations, the "dad trying to fix/get back broken family" trope, the largely male cast of significant characters, and a few big action scenes, it reads like an action/sci-fi film on the page. It switches back and forth between timelines, which sometimes got just slightly confusing to me, but it works for the story. I found the real estate agent Anderson "Andy" Whitman to be the most charismatic and entertaining character.

Fans of the action/intellectual side of the sci-fi/time-travel genre should especially love this read.

Yestermorrow had me breathless with anticipation! Luca, a scientist whose daughter is in a coma, discovers a way to refract time and alter the past. But there are others who desire that same power and will do anything to get it.

Hounded by a faceless man with a gun, Luca strives to do the impossible to save his daughter before it’s too late, even as his marriage buckles under the lies.

The story builds to an incredible climax as the past keeps switching back and forth, and different possibilities pulse like heartbeats: a new city blinks in and out of existence.

As intricately woven as it is boldly imagined.

Five stars.

A tantalising and mind-bending thrill ride

What a great story this is! The plot toys with a really great mind-melting concept, the kind that makes science fiction the joyous genre that it continues to be. When it's done well, it can make the impossible seem possible and this is just what Frasier Armitage has achieved here. A fab read. Now I know where I need to visit next!

Pacy and fun

In some ways it headed where I expected, in other ways it didn’t. A bit like life!
Always appreciate a nice use of Schrödinger’s Cat, too!
