A Very valuable resource for entrepreneurs and investors

A Very valuable resource for entrepreneurs and investors
This book is remarkable for a few different attributes. It is very accessible in articulating the impact of advanced technologies, across many fields (17 different topical chapters) without oversimplification, adding a historical context as well, which helps draw the impact trajectory for these technologies. Each chapter can be read standalone. There are a few chapters where I have a deep experiential knowledge, and those chapters/subjects are quite accurate and very neatly linked a few things I hadn't connected before. Guy has an authoritative position at the juncture of technology expertise and investment in Deeptech. From this unique vantage point, his writing allows readers to understand the past and imagine a future filled with exciting possibilities. A new world re-imagined. The book is rigorously researched and will provide a valuable resource to entrepreneurs, investors and anyone interested in how the world will change in the years ahead. Finally, I have to comment on the very elegant and innovative design of the table of content. Very well done. I highly recommend this book.

Based on the Kindle English Edition:

This is a substantial book. Well-researched & written and extensively referenced. It will be of value to those who want to learn about the past 50-100 years as a work on the history of technology; it will also be of value to those who want to look forward to the next 10-20 years.

It has broad coverage of industries and fields of technology in its 20 chapters (from energy to AI to Biotech to Virtual Reality). In my view, its central premise is that the future is not entirely in the future: technologies that will shape our future 10-20 years exist at _present_ in concrete forms with pioneers / early adopter; we just have to look carefully.

It also cautions that many impactful technologies have had false starts (before achieving broad adoption/impact). There is human psychological bias to over-estimate the change that will happen in 1 year, become disillusioned, and under-estimate the 10 year impact, and thus not effectively use the present (small green shoots) to predict the near future.

Most importantly - this books is really fun to read! Even as a person who is already well exposed to areas covered by the book, I thoroughly enjoyed the historical references and the description of the evolution of these technologies over time.

I've bought a copy of the book for my older uncle (who loves technology, but never has worked in it) and he read it end to end over a week!

As importantly, this book presents a very balanced picture of the pros and cons of many of the modern technology trends. Hindsight will show us where we over- or under-stretched, but in the meantime, the author lets us approach these transitions in a thoughtful, balanced and informed way.

I enjoyed the book but not as much as I thought I would because I was familiar with a lot of the information. Too many other authors have covered the same material during the past couple years. Most notably, “The Future is Faster Than you Think”. In addition, since I invest in stocks, I would prefer if the author cited individual companies instead of just the overall technology trends. Well researched. Well written.

In Present Future, Guy provides an excellent overview of the important frontiers of the Deep Tech revolution. With a unique blend of history, data, and storytelling, this book will help you better understand the technological changes we're currently living through, and what tomorrow might hold.

This book does an amazing job of taking very complex topics and explaining them in an easily digestible way. It tackles a wide range of deep tech focus areas, from robotics to crypto to materials — giving a thorough overview of what’s happening in each field without getting too deep in the weeds. I live and breathe deep tech for a living, and yet I still learned quite a bit about some of the technologies that I spend less time thinking about. And the way the historical context is woven throughout the book made this a really entertaining and quick read. I’ve already passed it along to family members, and they’ve enjoyed it as a window into my world.

Each subject takes you on a detailed journey into the science and history of multiple subjects related to technology. Had lots of details about famous inventors and scientists, as well as how their inventions changed the world that we live in. Lots of sections that were both eye opening and chilling to think about. Overall i recommend this book to anyone that wants to ponder at the big picture a bit.

Present Future, and Perelmuter, stand out for their ability to distill complex, theoretical concepts and bring them to tangible life. Written in a very digestible way, each chapter gives a crisp sense of where we've been, where are are, and where we are likely to be -- very thought provoking for those hoping to be among those who shape said future.
