- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI can't write a meaningful review of the content of this book, because I don't begin to understand it, however, it was one of the things my grandson requested for his 22nd birthday, and he seemed thrilled to get it and he tells me it's a great book, so I can say whole heartedly, this is a terrific birthday gift for anyone who's into computer games.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 21, 2023Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseIf you're into game development and design you'll definitely need to have this wisdom
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2017Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseFantastic book about the theories of what makes a game feel good and fun to play. I'd be doing the author a disservice if I attempted to explain it myself, just purchase the book and read it for yourself. Written very well and easy to understand even while going into very complex and intricate explanations.
I'd say that this is a must have for any game developer. Hell, even for those who are just interested in learning more about games.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2025Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseNot a bad book, but not what I expected going in. I read this for a bookclub like event on twitch. I thought there was going to be actionable advice. Like 'do X to make Y feel". The introduction points out that the book is not about the emotional feelings a player receives from games, and this is true.
The book DOES provide a language for discussing game design at a more academic level. It is about the theory of how a game feels, and while I didn't agree with everything Steve wrote it was easy enough to follow the thoughts.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2020Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseGot this for a friend I flipped through it before I gave it to them I didn't understand what it was but they seem pretty happy to get it
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2022Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe book manages to teach its core philosophy of what game feel is without boring the reader and has some good visuals.
Unfortunately, at the time of writing, over half the game demos meant to be played alongside the book are not obtainable. The book functions well enough without them, but mentions these games often enough that it leaves a scorching hole in the text.
Look for an opportunity to get this one used or at a discount.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2020Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseAnyone who is interested in game design even in the slightest bit should read this book. It is tremendous. Mine came in solid packaging and in perfect condition

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Read for Serious Game Developers!
Format: PaperbackVerified Purchase“Game Feel” digs deep into the magic behind making games feel right. It’s technical, but incredibly readable, blending theory with real-world examples. Every serious designer should have this on their shelf. It truly sharpens your understanding of interaction and player experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting topic. Some good insights.
Format: HardcoverVerified PurchaseThe topic of game feel is not covered as much as it could be in most games design texts.
Author has some interesting insights that can really help you think about game design deeper.
Minus point because the mentioned website is unfinished/abandoned though the book stands alone fine without it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Todo ok
