I have always been skeptical while reading books in the spiritual self-help genre.

It is because I have encountered some books written by frauds who proclaim themselves as spiritual gurus. I, too, had to face a few books ghostwritten by others for a few self-help gurus. I also have encountered the other side of the spectrum, which can be called some real gems with a lot of wisdom. So this genre has always been a hit or miss for me.

I came across a few viral YouTube videos by this author. I am happy to say that I am satisfied with what the author wrote in this book, which gave me a few new perspectives on life. I like the author's enthusiasm in how he wrote this book while talking about how to find purpose in life and how to strengthen relationships. I liked it so much that I even gifted a couple of copies of this book to my friends.

My favorite three lines from this book.
"Watch your thoughts, they turn into words. Watch your words, they turn into actions. Watch your actions, they turn into habits. Watch your habits, they turn into character. Watch your character, it turns into your destiny.' It all begins with a thought."

"It is strange that sword and words have the same letters."

"Experience is not what happens to a man, it is what a man does with what happens to him."

I recommend this book to readers interested in reading books in the spiritual self-help genre.

It was a Saturday evening around 5:55 PM, my daily office closing time, when my mobile pinged. That mobile notification brought mail with two great news for us.
1) We got mail from Pengium India to offer us a chance to review a book
2) The book was none other than Gaur Gopal Das, who's videos are being viral every now and then, refered by many of my friends on social media.
So it was obvious that we were not gonna say no to such a golden opportunity.

Though we had said yes, we were a little bit tensed as the book belonged to a spiritual/mental self-help genre, which I personally not prefer. But I was proved wrong just like his videos. Gaur Gopal Das has used a unique concept. He has narrated his incident from his personal experience. The story started with Gaur Gopal's visit to an elite (super rich) couple's house. Harry (husband) went to drop Gaur Gopal after lunch. They stuck in traffic during the trip, at that time Harry confessed his situation to Gaur Gopal, that was when the story started. From there started a series of serious thoughts bundled with amazing short stories or narrations that one can correlate. Gaur Gopal has wonderfully used the object in which they were traveling to explain things. The content was divided into 4 sections, just like 4 tyres of a car, which according to Gaur Gopal Das makes our life easy and satisfied. These 4 tyres are
1) Personal life
2) Relationship
3) Worklife
4) Social contributions

Even if one tyre gets punctured one cannot drive safely or survive the good drive. Our life depends upon the balance of these tyres. With each section, Harry's doubts were resolved by Gaur Gopal by proper reasoning and spirituality.

Good points
1) Easy to follow language and medium pace
2) A wonderful amalgamation of self-help and short stories
3) Applicable to each and every person, especially in India where people judge first and act later
4) Question provided at end of each chapter which can help to learn yourself and align yourself with the logic

A sure shot must read for anyone and any age group. I must be the lucky one to get a chance to review such a book.

No need for separate rating 5/5 to the book.

GENRE - SELF HELP.

I am a Gaur Gopal Das follower, having watched most of his speeches and videos on YouTube and other social media sites I always wanted to read a book by him.
The most important reason for me liking him is that he is someone who doesn't speak about religion or tries to manipulate people with his words by playing the religion card also he has a great sense of humor, his speeches are more about following the spiritual path and virtues that are straight forward, righteous and Considerate.

About the Book :- I loved the book absolutely, most importantly it contained stories of his personal journey as a monk, a few anecdotes and quotes and lots and lots of values.
In the end of the book he also provided with a worksheet to be used for practice.

I highly recommend this book to those who are seeking spiritual path and also to those who are looking for a quick and effective 📚 read in self help genre.

Thank You 🙂

This is not one of those books that will tell you how you can achieve your goals or make a lot of money. On the contrary it tells you, money or no money, how you can be happy. This book talks about how you can achieve happiness permanently. If you are looking for an escape, maybe you can travel, watch a movie or read a book. But if you are looking for something that will remain with you all your life, then read this book. It will definitely change the way you look at your life. You will tell yourself - life is indeed beautiful. I'd like to thank Gaur Gopal Das for writing this book.

Hundreds of take aways you'll get here in this book. You'll learn to live the meaningful and peaceful life. Life is actually a car as described in this book. Here I'm sharing some best take aways-
1:- It's not the happy people who are grateful, it's the grateful people who are happy.
2:- The only price is Commitment & Consistency.
3:- Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy. -Leo Buscaglia
4:- Learning to detach ourselves from situations that are outside our control is an imperative skill to learn for personal growth.
5:- Sometimes when we get engrossed in a problem, we feel trapped in our minds.
6:- Many of our problems lie in not understanding our fundamental identity:- "We are not human beings having spiritual experiences; We are spiritual beings having human experiences."
7:- It was not what you said, it's how you said it.
8:- It's the nature of the world to make you feel unsettled.
9:- People with closed mindset want to grow by beating others in their field. Open minded people, on the other hand, grow by developing themselves.
10:- If you do what you love, you will never have to work a day in your life.
11:- Live your life in such a way that who know you but don't know God, will come to know God because they know you.

It's not the end, this book is really going to help you to grow your mind/thinking.

This book helped me at the right time as I really needed something like this to read.
Relationships, forgiveness and mental peace through gratitude and compassion are the concepts explained in fairly simple style with small stories.
I may read this book again and again till the time it really sinks in.

This book simplifies and chants simple philosophy which can be useful to change our typical life pattern. It sections into 4 types:

1. Personal Life:
To see the positive or good from negative, simply being gratitude. Press pause in you life and see the beautiful moments that flourished our life. you cant control everything in your life. Learning to detach ourselves from situations that are beyond our control is an imperative skill to learn for personal growth.

2. Relationship:
you must be sensitive with your words and actions. Treat even inanimate objects with consideration and respect. Be good and see the good and magnify it. "It is not what you said it, it is how you said it". Forgive people who hurt you. Your life style is more affected by other person's life system than their habits.

3. work life:
Being envious and uncontrolled ambition are two causes of unhealthy competition. so, compete yourself to have a healthy growth than comparing yourself with others. Rather than being political, it is better to constantly work hard on self-improvement to achieve excellence. Foundation of growth is understanding who you are. (great one!) Remember, people are touched by what you do than what you say.

4. social contribution:
Be an ice cream and candle (enjoy your life before it melts; give light to others before it melts). Be selfishly selfless. Serve your family, society and Nation. As Muhammad Ali said, "The service you do for other is the rent you pay for your room here on earth".

Not to forget,.. IKIGAI

Hare Krishna! Gaur Gopal Das is a great motivational speaker and a lifestyle coach. I hardly miss any of his lectures on YouTube, he is really a solution finder with a very pragmatic approach. The best part is that his solutions are very implementable in day to day life. I was so excited to read his book but it could have been written in a much better way. It looked like as if it is just a summary of all the videos that he had delivered on Social media, nothing new in it. Same examples from the videos were quoted in the form of text. Substance in the book is not that strong to make him a good writer. On the contrary, he speaks quite a lot better than what he wrote. Some quotes looked so absurd and incomplete in their true sense. This book is much like khichdi of various books which are quite loved by people. My ethics do not allow me to mention the names of those books. I must say every good orator cannot be a good writer. We can pick up a few meaningful lessons from the book but not many.

Life’s Amazing Secrets by Gaur Gopal Das

I came to know about this Jolly looking and ever smiling Gaur Gopal Das, through a YouTube video. And the first thought that popped into my mind was, wow! this guy has the most amazing genuine smile.

I also had a chance to meet this amazing person at Crossword Books Awards in 2018, at that time I had no idea that he had also authored a book.

So when Penguin people send over one his book ‘Life’s Amazing Secret’ I was pleasantly surprised.

A very short read this book, ‘Life’s Amazing Secrets’ is as serene as the author himself.

Moreover, this is one of the best books I have read in the Spiritual genre recently.

Gaur Gopal Das tells his readers to balance out four principles that form the foundation of a happy life…
1. Personal Life
2. Relationships
3. Work life and
4. Social Contribution

According to him if we apply these four principles in our life, they can make us deeply happy and thus we are in harmony with our surroundings.

This book ‘Life’ s Amazing Secret’ is not like other Goals achieving books. On the contrary, it guides you to balance out every aspect of life and hence the ultimate happiness.

Gaur Gopal Das’s golden words in this book will forever be etched into your mind and heart.

This book is a gold mine, forever with you. It spews gold, every time you open it.

Every chapter in the book begins with a beautiful quote and, at the end of each chapter, there is a short summary.

It’s a book that you can read anytime, anywhere, and whenever you feel low or lost.

The pace of the book is very balanced, neither fast nor slow. And the narration is like a spiritual chant: giving a sense of serenity and positivity. Moreover, the language is crisp and easy to understand. Overall, it’s a must read for everyone, regardless of their age or gender.

Once upon a time, I used to buy books when I went to Iskcon temple only because the book will be smaller and cheaper instead of some other big motivational books. After reading 2 of those books i understood that the book is not explaining anything about self-help and instead asked us to visit Iskcon for all the issues we have. Controlling anger can be done by visiting Iskcon, managing balance in life can be done by visiting Iskcon etc etc. After such bitter incidents, I came across this book last year and firstly i was in a dilemma on whether to buy this book. I bought this book only because I have seen and liked the author's motivational speeches in social media. To my suprise even though he is from Iskcon, the book is actually about self help and not much about the promotion of his community. The book was really good and it really explains some of the practicable amazing secrets of life.

I wanted to start the year with a pithy and positive book, and this book screamed "pick me, pick me" from my unread books pile.
It had everything that I expected it to have - conversational style sermons, easy to understand anecdotes acting as metaphors for life-lessons, the motherhood gyan of 'to be grateful, be kind and compassionate, help others, compete with own self and not others, lead a balanced life, do meditation and spiritual practice, etc etc', and finally, some kind of self-promotion.
The author being an ex-engineer and corporate employee, his stories and narration style well suited for people of similar background.
The good aspect of the book is that lessons are simple and practicable (aren't the best things in life are simple?) narrated in a tone of if-I-can-and-he-can-so-can-you. I am sure, these life lessons would give positive vibe to many.

This book gives different aspects of life such as personal life, relationships, work life and social contribution. Reading flows uninhibitedly as all chapters have been sprinkled with short stories and examples.

One can fine-tunes his/her life by applying topics of the book. Topics like expressing gratitude, forgiveness, integrity etc. are common ingredients of a self-help book, however, still this category will remain always in best seller group.

Title: Life's Amazing Secrets
Author: Gaur Gopal Das
Genre: Motivational
Pages: 208
My rating: 4/5
Review: The author lives as a monk in an ashram in downtown Mumbai. His 'ikigai' is to help people to live life happily.
To live happily we have to choose to be happy. He compares our life to a four wheeled car and explains how to balance the four wheels: personal life, relationship, work place and social contribution, through instances from epics Ramayana, Mahabharata, and from his own world wide travel experiences.
A must read for people who have everything: money, home, family, health, but still are unhappy.
There are two appendices: Forgiveness worksheet and Ikigai worksheet for practise.

Overall Review: Simple, Easy to Read, Rich Content and absolutely NO PROPAGANDA.
.
“To accept someone when everything is going right is easy. But when things are falling apart around you and you stick together, that’s the test of a relationship. Love is when we have every reason to break up but we do not.”
― Gaur Gopal Das, Life’s Amazing Secrets: How to Find Balance and Purpose in Your Life
.
Life's Amazing Secrets is actually an amazing book and Prabhuji explains the Four Wheels of our Life in a conversational manner. The narration interleaved with stories gives a good impact of the message the author wants to convey. For those who have seen his videos can feel that his writing is a reflection of what we see through his videos. For ones who have already read the scriptures and are doing spiritual practice, this is a reinforcement.
.
This book came to me when I was going through a difficult time personally. The various stories shared by Prabhuji helped me look beyond the short term troubles and focus on Relationships, forgiveness and mental peace through gratitude and compassion. This is not a religious book of any faith but based on the universal principles of finding peace, purpose and happiness for an individual.
.
The write is easy to read and conversational but sometimes you might feel repetitive or something that you already know. I feel each spiritual guru has the same thing to say but how they put it across is more important. I liked the way Prabhuji has put across the age-old wisdom in a modern context and it definitely helped me.

Gaur Gopal Das !

The Youtube Monk !!

Picked up this book as am following GGD on social media and the messages in his short videos are really soothing and takes you out of difficult situation for time being.

Unfortunately, the book does not stand up to the title. Rather, he could've just printed transcript of all his videos, which would've been a very good read. Would rather stick to his short Videos.

In the book, the monk gives Sermons and Sermons are easier said than done !!!

I don't know why I read this book. Probably I was bored and this was kept on the dining table. Don't know where it came from. Tbh don't want to know either. I already judge my family enough. Don't want this to add to it.
What do I say about this book?
Well, there was nothing amazing nor secretive about this book.

The book is a daily wisdom imparted by the young guru while he travel with his rich friend in his car. Today's Monks too can't do without their phone, laptop and network streaming, I think :-p If one is brought on the staple diet of books of Osho, sadguru and likes, this book is very primary. Atleast there's nothing new I could find that I didn't know or practice already. 2stars.

Book which brought back the values and principles I was being taught since I was a child . It’s always good to reflect on the basic values like practising gratitude, forgiveness , selflessness which we often forget in the coping up with daily chores . The book leaves me with amplified positivity and gratitude with respect to my journey so far in personal and professional life. A good barometer to test how we are coping up with challenges and difficulties in our life.

I have watched many videos of Gaur Gopal Das on social media so when I came across his book in library; I decided to give it a try and thankfully I don't regret reading it!
The book deals with four important aspects of our lives namely: Personal life, Relationships, Work life and Social Contribution. Gopal Das describes our life as a journey and these aspects as four wheels of our car for the journey. The book guides us about maintaining balance among these four wheels in our life to make the journey happy and reach the destination i.e. to find our purpose in life!

Favorite Quotes from the book:

"Watch your thoughts, they turn into words. Watch your words, they turn into actions. Watch your actions, they turn into habits. Watch your habits, they turn into character. Watch your character, it turns into your destiny. It all begins with a thought."

“Anyone can find the dirt in someone. Be the one that finds the gold.”

"Worry never robs tomorrow of its sorrow, it only saps today of its joy."

“It is strange that sword and words have the same letters. Even more strange is that they have the same effect if not handled properly.”

"The service you do for others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth."—Muhammad Ali

“Fight the strong urge to judge someone based on an initial interaction with them. Everyone has a fascinating story that we know nothing about.”

"People with a closed mindset want to grow by beating others in their field. Open-minded people, on the other hand, grow by developing themselves.”

“To find your purpose in life, you must go on a journey of self-discovery.”

"Earn with integrity, spend with compassion."—Radhanath Swami

Gaur Gopal Das is known to most Indians due to the immense popularity of YouTube videos circulating on Whatsapp of his life advice talks in English to students and others where he uses contemporary examples and plenty of humour. His being a graduate of College of Engineering, Pune shows in his clear, logical, and analytical communication style that combines nicely with his traditional appearance to make him one of the top modern gurus.

This book captures many of his principles in a conversational story format. For most of the book he is on a car ride with a "successful" investment banker friend seeking advice on relationships, career, and life in general while navigating through heavy Mumbai traffic. Unlike the typical American self-help literature of the previous century, the principles are explained in more of a coaching style (asking thought-provoking questions) and minimal rah-rah motivational preaching. The guru's own examination of mistakes he made, emotional reactions to situations and subsequent realisation of its consequences and so on are highly relatable.

Among other gems, the book contains the 4-circle Venn diagram for career and calling decisions (Ikigai concept). Those who have enjoyed his hilarious videos might not find the same level of humour in the book. Here it is more subtle and infrequent.

All in all, highly recommended, especially to youngsters and to those who like spiritual advice in a light dose.

# Personal and professional relationships along with social responsibilities and rights often transgress to delible boundaries in modern complicated urban life. Claiming equipoise among the pulls of varied expectations and ambitious, people often get bewildered to make rational decisions. Impatience leads to impertinence and sours otherwise harmonious relationships.

# Gaur Gopal Das, help you navigate such intricacies in life with rational solutions for contentious issues to resolve overdue strained relationships and professional stagnation.#

I have to be honest here, more than life lessons from the monk I was more interested in the life of the monk while reading this one.

The life lessons imparted backed by solid stories/examples do stay onto oneself which is the most jovial part of the book.

It's a fun read I'd say rather than an enlightenment.
