Hey Goodreads peeps,

Pass me a drink. Let's chill on the ripped couch at the back. I love this place. Book lovers are my favorite people. (And my favorite lovers.)

My name is Neil Pasricha (pass-REACH-ah) and I'm the New York Times / #1 int'l (blah blah blah!) bestselling author of ten books on living an intentional life including THE BOOK OF AWESOME (gratitude), THE HAPPINESS EQUATION (happiness), TWO-MINUTE MORNINGS (habits), and the poorly-titled YOU ARE AWESOME (resilience.) My books are published in a lot of languages I can't read and sold a couple million more copies than anyone was expecting.

My background? Well, trust me: Nobody expected me to be writer. Least of all me. My parents aren't jazz trumpet players and watercolorists who raised me in Manhattan. They're hardcore Indian immigrants from Punjab and Nairobi who arrived in Canada scraping to get by. I was supposed to be a doctor! That was the life plan. But after my wife left me and my best friend took his own life in my late 20s I started a blog to cheer myself up. That blog was called 1000awesomethings.com and basically turned into everything else I've done and am doing.

If you want to hang out without social media algorithms in between us (no offence, algorithms! please don't punish my search results!) then join the thousands and thousands of good-hearted kindred spirits globally who get my newsletters. I put a lot of work into my newsletters -- they're sort of my weird digital babies -- and they contain my book recommendations, my new articles, my podcasts, and, of course, my daily awesome things (which I've been writing for 15 years now!). Sign up at www.neil.blog/newsletters

Hit me up if you wanna be friends! I love this clunky old site because it feels like my old hometown library somehow.

Shall we both get back to reading now?

XOXOXO

Neil

I've been a longtime follower of this author since his blog had started, pretty much, so I was delighted to read an early copy of this book sent by him. OUR Book of Awesome follows the same format as Neil's other AWESOME books - tiny moments of awesome that he's noticed through everyday life, but there are additional awesome things added by the community/followers and there are some comments on some of the awesome things that made this a fun read. There are some "awesomes" that resonate after our collective COVID experience, and many more I relate to now as a parent.

I enjoy these types of books that can be read over several (or many) sittings because there are just glimpses of little everyday things I maybe experience but don't consider at the time because life has a routine way of flowing along. Books like this one remind me to focus on the little happenings around me that make life better, more meaningful, or just awesome.

A few that I really resonated with: a library book finally being on the shelf after you'd placed a hold on it months ago, watching your favourite movie with someone who hasn't seen it before (the same could be applied to a favourite book!), seeing kids reading in the hallway, when the categories on Jeopardy line up with your interests, and making line-up friends (one of which I made this year at an author event!). I don't want to spoil too many of these, but there are so many good ones.

This book is a treat & would make an excellent Christmas gift for other like-minded individuals who enjoy snippets of awesome.

Thank you again to the author for the advanced copy for review - I look forward to lending it out :)

This book appeals to me so much. This compilation brought such a smile to my face. It gives a tiny insight into what the person was thinking at that one moment in time. Since the pandemic, I have begun to look for simple things in my life that make me smile. It has helped with my stress levels. It has encouraged me to make note of these awesome things in my life:

Turning on my Christmas tree lights

Reading a book in my nook

Gathering eggs from our chickens

Walking in the forest

If you need to sway your pendulum to the positive, don’t hesitate to add this book to your cart. It is cheaper than therapy.

Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada, Simon & Schuster & Net Galley for this ARC. All opinions are my own.

Neil Pasricha has written another wonderful book about the awesomeness of our daily lives. During the pandemic, daily “Awesome” emails from Neil started my day with a sense of well-being. This book is titled OUR Book of Awesome. Many of his readers suggested their personal experiences of Awesome events. You can pick up his book, open it to any page and find something that is applicable to your everyday life. If not that page then the next page for sure. Some will make you chuckle, others will help you rethink the awesomeness in everyday life. Many a times I forwarded his emails to friends with the caption “This is so True!”
It is the small things in life that make your life Awesome.

It does feel like a particular kind of evil to dislike a book about celebrating small joys. However, I was frequently confused how some of the entries were "awesome" (e.g. "really heavy things"? or "having jet lag"?). Some of the entries not only weren't awesome but seemed problematic (e.g. throwing garbage onto the neighbour's lawn to spend extra time in a robe in the morning). The all-caps, "AWESOME!" at the end of every entry also seemed disingenuous very quickly.

I think this book was derived from a blog and I do think I would've enjoyed it more in the small spurts that a blog format offers.

Some people will love this book because it's like a gratitude journal that's already written for you, but personally I loved how much nostalgia I felt reading so many of the small, strange and wonderful things that make life lovely.

I loved The Book of Awesome - the first one-by Neil Pasricha but Our Book of Awesome is truly way more awesome! I chuckled, smiled and full out laughed at the randomness of awesome ‘entries’. Rather than try to read through this in a single go, I choose to read only a few pages at a time. Each time I picked it up, I found myself feeling excited with anticipation of what descriptions of awesome were waiting to be revealed…..AWESOME!

Our Book of Awesome complies hundreds of heartfelt, funny, and everyday pleasures that make life so awesome. In a world filled with stress and uncertainty, author Neil Pasricha reminds us to enjoy the simple things in life.

It was the perfect book to start off the new year. I especially loved the comments and submissions from his worldwide audience. I had a blast highlighting some of my favorite ones along with starring several everyday joys that I’d love to experience this year.

I realize this is OUR Book of Awesome, but I didn't love the random comments sections though. Personally found they didn't add anything to the book.

I skimmed most of the book because lots of things weren't relatable 🤷🏻‍♀️some parts were a great pick me up & made it a great reminder about some wonderful things in life.

Thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Canada for an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

With so much of the media focused on the negativity, why not step back and appreciate the positive? Like opening the dishwasher and it's already emptied, sending a private message during a Zoom and seeing your co-worker look down and smirk, picking the right thing to unplug out of the jumble of cords plugged into the power bar. This book celebrates the small wins and reminds us that we should too!

A book that was recommended to me although I cannot imagine why at this point as I am wanting to scrape myself down with a ice scraper followed by a bleach bath of my mind for having to deal with the writing.

In comparison previous read of Eat Cake for Breakfast: And 99 Other Small Acts of Happiness, yet another book from this genre, was a much better breath of fresh air due to it provided a simple thought, some colored cartoonish drawing, its much smaller size and no frequent pandering to an author that I would rather avoid at all costs, especially if I was to be caught alone in an extreme tragic situation of no escape - not even of one where I could awesomely chew my arm off to get away from his neverending blather.

Instead looked to with the concept of having to follow this cringeworthy read with OurBook of Awesome I started to dread what brain cells would still remain alive and thus chose to combine my reading section to both books to help me get through them faster. And it amazingly worked in that regard although my household may all be wanting to quarantine from me at this point.

Awesome 1 and Our Awesome were basically both written in the same regard with the majority of entries being devoted to the clunky pages-long explanations and rabbit trails of this narcissistic and cruel author based upon his own entries. These were then interspersed with other entries in which the reader was provided the nice presentation of the thought only, a few entries that were devoted only a paragraph of writing and some that were only just only a few paragraphs long while impressively one had four pages of blank pages for its description thus providing the upcoming reading with an idea of the wasteful padding on of pages to make a giant book that may have been better sold as brief thoughts.

Furthermore the author was too much in his own head as a prima donna in which he leads the world stage, tossing out wrong facts to his readers, inconsiderate bad advice such as wearing gasoline so you can enjoy its fumes and being far superior to every species (We are the only species on the only life-giving rock, capable of love and magic, architecture and agriculture.... We are the only ones with interior design... - don't think he really pays attention to other species much). And his dips into thinking that potty humor and bad manners is cause to celebrate had me condemning this book from the time I got there.

To shake things up, though, Our Book of Awesome differs only since of the fact that he chose to allow some entries be from other people who must be fans. At the same time other readers were included to present their own thoughts of awesome or to sell the book for the author, which is deplorable already but seems right in line for the type of person I see Neil Pasricha as he presents himself, especially when he seemed to be devoting so much of his book to women (made me first think he was gay) although not in a kind vein for interviews for a first time job.

All in all I cannot see what people have found in this author's books that have them clamoring for more of this or wasting their hard-earned money to put this author on the bestseller's list.

I've been a fan of Neil's books for many years—all the way back to his original blog, actually.

I've always enjoyed how refreshingly simple, honest and funny his writing is. I find the best humorists out there are wildly smart observers of the world, and Neil is just that, but he specializes in the little light-hearted things that somehow also run deep, because they remind you that small things can also be important things, that in recognizing joy together we commune together.

If this new book was just a lot more of his astute and hilarious observations, I would be quite happy. Because who can't use more awesome in their lives? But this book is more than that.

Because the community of readers is layered in throughout the book, it feels like it becomes something kind of new: a conversation in book form, a big brainstorm from across the world where he's picked the funniest, most honest, most connective contributions from other regular folks and given them pride of place alongside his own writing. It's a cool move, because Neil kind of recedes (he doesn't go away, his funny genius is still on every page) but his readers emerge and take the stage with him, and the whole thing feels much more celebratory than his previous books—maybe even more celebratory of humanity than any other book I've read?

All this to say, I thought Our Book of Awesome was a wonderfully fun read and did not disappoint. Just as with the previous Awesome books, I found myself chuckling out loud on almost every page, but I also had this new sensation that I was laughing along with more than just Neil, but all of you out there as well.

This was a great book to start my year with.

Within the last week, my life has all but fallen apart.
Which is why I grabbed Our Book of Awesome off my TBR shelf.
I needed some peace, happiness, and awesomeness.

If you haven't figured it out yet, The Book of Awesome and all it's subsequent titles detail all the little things in life that we take for granted. It's literally just a list of all the awesome things we as people get to experience and live through every single day.

Some of my favorite things from Our Book of Awesome include:
-Being so obsessed with books you read every single word on the copyright page
-Driving down an old road with trees that touch and form a canopy over everything
-Watching your fav movie with someone who hasn't seen it before (would also like to add, listening to your fav album with someone who hasn't heard it before)
-Dogs hanging their heads out of car windows
-Singing the guitar solo

These are all great examples of things that I love and would love to share with other people.
Our Book of Awesome did it a little differently this time, instead of Neil Pasricha just sharing his awesome thoughts, he included comments and entries from people all over the world!

AWESOME!

I have been following Neil Pasricha since I saw him present at a conference about 3 years ago. Neil’s new book “Our Book of Awesome” noting those simple moments of awesomeness that he observes and those shared awesome contributions from the community has come out at just the right time.
In a post-covid world that is filled with too many negative messages and images, high job stress and all the challenges that life throws at us I find myself eagerly anticipating the daily Awesome email from Neil and often reach for a copy of one of his earlier Awesome books flip to a random page and take a moment to breath and reset. This new book like its predecessors is not a book that I read page after page, it is better to open to a random page and read the awesome message on it, some messages make me laugh, some make me smile, and some make me groan – for those pages I just flip to another random page until I at least smile.
Thank you Neil for this newest edition of awesomeness and the daily awesome email, these snippets of gratitude are great for lifting your spirit and every so often give you wings to soar.

Let's face it, the past couple of years have been, well, not so great. With the sheer amount of noise online, it's hard to rise above the shouting and focus on what maters. And when we can focus at all, it's become so easy to obsess about negative things. In response, Neil Pasricha offers Our Book of Awesome, an injection of joy and love straight to our collective hearts. What began as an interesting blog some years ago has morphed into a movement, a community of people who seek to intentionally seek out, notice and lift up the positive things in their lives. And this is not at all just another "positive thinking" book. This is truly a manifesto, a call to celebrate the greatness of the ordinary, every day happenings in our lives. Written both for and with members of the Awesome community, I can't think of anyone who would not benefit from reading and sharing this book with the people they love. Do yourself a favor and grab a few copies to enjoy and share. You'll be so glad you did!

This book is about getting away from the overwhelming things and focusing more on noticing the small joys we experience every day. Something as simple as deleting emails, saying hello, and having a good cup of coffee in the morning. The book is full of small, positive examples from the author and from people who submitted them.

I love the whole "Awesome" series of books because they all remind us to celebrate those little moments of life we pass by every day. The more you focus on them, the more you find those small moments in your life that you can be grateful for each day. Each chapter is short and can quickly bring a smile to your face! This is a great book you can read quickly if you need a smile. It would also make a wonderful gift for anyone.

Neil said that he started gathering "awesome" things again because the pandemic (and literally everything) felt so dark and despairing. Over the last 2 + years, he's posted awesome to Facebook, shared via email, and also continued with his podcast "Three Books" (highly recommended, seriously...go listen). Neil, if you are reading this, please know that this book is so needed right now. It's needed by me, by my daughters, by my husband (who gets a happier me), and by the world. All these little quick peaks at "awesome" are so funny and light and happy and sometimes just nostalgic in all the best ways. I got my copy in the mail today and almost immediately wanted to send it along to someone else who needs this bit of awesome in their lives. Thank you, Neil. And thank you to all of the many people who have sent you bits of awesome joy over these years. We all benefit.

I’ve always loved these books. The first purchase I made from Amazon when I lived on my own for the first time I. 2013 was a giant box of Nature Valley granola bars, and The Book of Awesome. Ever since then, I’ve enjoyed reading all of the variations. I even used one of the chapters as a spoken word for an acting class in 2014. I don’t remember which one it was (I’m still actively trying to remember!). I got so excited when I found out another one was being released! Getting to read so many relatable entries from different people is so great. In this day and age, people get excited when they find out a very specific thing they do or enjoy, is also enjoyed and noticed by other people. The satisfaction continues with this book! I haven’t finished it yet, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it so far. Excited to read the rest of the chapters 🙂

There's not much to say about this book.

Our Book of Awesome is a book where the chapters are things that make us feel good and describes what makes those 'feel goods' awesome.

The book goes through topics like gravy, someone actually returning your wallet, feeling your girlfriend or boyfriend smile while kissing you, when your completely plugged-up nostrils suddenly open up with no warning, flipping over your grilled cheese to discover you perfectly cooked the bottom side, pulling a thick and tangly hair out of the drain, the moon, eating a taco without anything falling out, the air just before a thunderstorm, etc.

It was wholesome, but the book is more or less an extended list that details the awesome.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book!

I have all of Neil Pasricha's books including the Journal of Awesome. I absolutely love reading about all the simple joys in life and how they can bring happiness, even if its just for a moment. The pandemic affected all of us so deeply and this book is a wonderful reminder of the joy that is still out there in this world. There are some things in the book that I agreed with, other things that I laughed at and some that I hadn't even thought of!

This book is a wonderful reminder, that even in the hardest of times, a small gesture or token can bring a smile to someone's face. Even if its there just for a moment.

It’s not another feel-good list of those little clichéd things you love… Yes, there are some expected ones, but there are so many you wouldn’t have thought of yourself but end up totally agreeing with! The best part isn’t the actual awesome thing, but the essays that Neil puts with them. He has a knack for writing what’s interesting, leaving out what’s not, and the humor is just a cherry on top. This book is to be savored slowly, a few pages per day, I think. Or you can gobble it up in one sitting - whatever you think is the awesomest way to digest it. The awesome things are presented in varying formats, some with cool drawings, and that keeps it fun. Great gift giving opportunity!

This book was amazing, it made my day. I was having a kind of rough day today when my mom called me at lunch and told me that she met the author and had a surprise for me. Turns out she had lunch with people from work and the author. My mother told him that I had read the book of awesome and I loved it, he brought out a copy of this book and signed it to me, I got the book after school which made my day. Also from the time my mom called me to the time I was picked up my phone lasted on 1% it was 5 hours.

This book came out at a great time. In a world where we are consistently bombarded with bad and negative news, Neil Pasricha once again reminds us that there is awesomeness all around us. And “awesome” isn’t just reserved for the big stuff. Awesome is also all the little things that make our lives better, more joyful. With this book, he also included comments from people all over the place, hence the title OUR BOOK OF AWESOME. The only thing that could have made this book better is if one of my comments had made it in.

If we ever needed a Book of Awesome...now is the time! The last few years have been hard on all of us in so many different ways, it is so important that we take a moment to enjoy the little things. There is a positive in every day sometimes we just need to look a little harder to find it. Thank you Neil for doing this for us everyday and for releasing this new book of awesome for everyone to enjoy. I know I will enjoy pulling Our Book of Awesome off my shelf every time time I need to be reminded that there is always something to be thankful for.

I've been following Neil since his first book, The Book of Awesome, so when I heard this one was coming out, I knew I had to read it. Despite having enjoyed all of his other books, I had forgotten how funny and relatable the "awesome series" really is. How refreshing to be reminded of the little mundane things in life that make us happy, even if for a few seconds. A reminder we can all use after the last few years! Finding out that this book was exactly what you needed in your life right now? AWESOME!

I really enjoyed this. A lovely book where the author points out little Things that make you smile. It’s a not a book where you should say- oh I need to be grateful or self help or anything, but it brings back memories that make me smile. Like- going to a record store, playing with the hose with my brother in the summer…. Some I skipped over- like I don’t like eating peaches, but then I read about the used textbooks we got in elementary school with everyone’s name who used it before us and I smile again.

just yay. we need more awesome and joy and glimmers, the moments that lift us that with practice can reverberate and sing in our brains, even reshaping it so it lasts longer and longer and outshines the pain and sadness that are also part of everyday life.

Feeling jaded? Stressed? Looking for something to break a cycle of anxiety? Then Our Book of Awesome is for you. My friends and I got a copy and took turns reading the best and funniest entries to each other. Many of the entries connected me to old and recent memories, sometimes to the point of (happy) tears. This book is a reminder that this life, our world, flaws and all, is actually pretty awesome.

Loving this book that not only reminds us all to carry around gratitudes ( which as a psychotherapist I can tell you is very good for you!) but is genuinely funny! It’s also one of those books where you become that annoying person sharing them all with others “just listen to this on last one…”
A personal favourite and on my to-do list - writing a gift message to yourself on an online order…. Awesome!
