It's a prime ingredient in countless substances from cereal to soup, from cola to coffee. Consumed at the rate of one hundred pounds for every American every year, it's as addictive as nicotine -- and as poisonous. It's sugar. And "Sugar Blues", inspired by the crusade of Hollywood legend Gloria Swanson, is the classic, bestselling expose that unmasks our generation's greatest medical killer and shows how a revitalizing, sugar-free diet can not only change lives, but quite possibly save them.

Second hand buying is great
5 Stars
Second hand buying is great
Happy with my purchase. Great to be able to find a second hand copy without going traipsing around many second hand stores. Interesting book, taking my time reading it. So many references and pearls that I’ve been stopping to research finding out about others in history that sounded the alarm, 200, 300 years ago... I’m only up to chapter 6 ... it’s a very interesting book so far... the reference list in the back coupled with google searches has been a big eye opener...

This book is a great read. It’s about the history of sugar which is absolutely fascinating. Made a great book for our book club. Everyone could benefit from reading this book and knowing how it’s become so prevalent in our society.

Probably the most informative book I have read in my 75 years on this planet. And I am an avid reader. People think we have a drug problem in this country? We do. And it's not what we're led to believe. I read this book when it first came out in the 70's and have re-read it at least 3 or 4 times. The drug problem we have in this country is SUGAR and we are all addicted to it. Sugar is more addicting than cocaine. If you think not, try doing without it completely for a few days. I mean NO sugar. It is in everything. Read the labels on everything you buy. Sugar sugar sugar, is in everything. So, eliminate it completely. You will be surprised how much better you feel after a few weeks on NO sugar. Try it if you think you can. What amazes me is the number of people that gave the book a poor rating. Many just read a chapter and said it was boring and threw it away. Too bad because if they are really interested in getting healthy they should have read the entire book. Granted, the first few chapters talk about the history of sugar and how it all started. The more you read however, makes you understand why over half the country is probably just heading for full blow diabetes. The history of sugar is really important in that it makes you understand why the health industry is on of the most profitable industries in the country. Why it takes weeks sometime just to get an appointment to see a doctor. I have Narcolepsy and have been taking Ritalin since the early 80's. I did the Adkins diet which "completely" eliminates sugar. After just a month or two with NO sugar, I didn't even need the Ritalin anymore. Never felt better or had more energy than anytime in my life. Truth!!

This book is a good read on the history of sugar. By the end, I had stopped using white sugar without even thinking about it. This paperback version has very small print.

Basically, what you have to ask yourself......Why do I need to buy this book. Answer is simple.Reading is knowledge, so if you have the knowledge then don't waste your money. But I doubt very much if anyone has the knowledge Bill Dufty is offering here.

You don't don't read this book, small as it may be, you need to study it. Yes read it, then get a marker and then REALLY read it..........why? It will shake you up more than you realise. The writer has experienced its contents in many ways, and for the rest has delved historically for the comparisons.

It is first value for money. It was first published around 1975 and is still going strong.........John Lennon used to give copies to his friends.

It takes you to the root of a lot of problems concerning sugar,(Sucrose) and many reasons to give it a wide berth! It is scaring in some ways, this does no arise till you start putting into practise what Dufty says and you get the..............SUGAR BLUES!

Ok,you have not had a heart attack.....then wait till you get one.......and then you will REALLY read it......Diabetes.......your sugar level is OK? Is it.........how many have taken the Glucose Tolerance test to find out the body's reaction to sugar and see if it can handle the poison. It is a slow killer as the book will tell you. Basically know what it does to the teeth.....rots them. But why.........why is it the West Indians can eat it and have magnificent teeth? Buy the book and find out.

It may cost a few dollars, but compared with the benefits..............it is nothing............Imagine being told.....you have Diabetes....how much would you pay the doctor to say........you have NOT got it........well Dufty tells you how to avoid it. If you don't think this worth knowing, then you should not be wasting your time reading this review.

If you have any sense, then get a copy, and show you really value your health. Because that is what you are buying, a key to good health and like a good map book, shows you the road to take to get it.

I think it will shake you. I write this as an ex-marathon runner, and know the damage sugar does to the marathon runner....how it retains all in the gut and refusing to let the real energy through till the sugar has been absorbed.......but then you need more sugar.....more energy.........and so it goes on.

Get the book and you will see the value you have just paid next to nothing for..............you just could not regret it. It is easy reading and interesting.................!

People do not know the dangers of sugar. I read this years ago and I do not eat sugar. I have much better health and most people I know. I bought this for a gift for someone I care about that I wanted to keep safe from the dangers of sugar.

You need to focus when reading but it's VERY informative. It'll make you rethink your whole diet and make you watch how much actual refined sugar you're eating. Natural sugars are obviously natural (i.e. fruits) but the amount of added sugar in products that's increased over time explains a lot of why people are experiencing diseases and whatnot! I've even changed the amount of refined sugar my kids eat.

Wahnsinnig interessant.

The book arrived in excellent shape. It is a fantastic read and I've learned so much about the history of sugar and how it is such a huge addiction. It threatens my health which is why I purchased the book in the first place. I have more energy since I've cut down on my sugar intake especially refined sugar. What an eye opener!
