Orison Swett Marden (1850-1924) was an American writer associated with the New Thought Movement. He also held a degree in medicine, and was a successful hotel owner.

Marden was born in Thornton Gore, New Hampshire to Lewis and Martha Marden. When he was three years old, his mother died at the age of 22, leaving Orison and his two sisters in the care of their father, a farmer, hunter, and trapper. When Orison was seven years old, his father died from injuries incurred while in the woods, and the children were shuttled from one guardian to another, with Orison working as a "hired boy" to earn his keep. Inspired by an early self-help book by the Scottish author Samuel Smiles, which he found in an attic, Marden set out to improve himself and his life circumstances. He persevered in advancing himself and graduated from Boston University in 1871. He later graduated from Harvard with an M.D. in 1881 and an LL.B. degree in 1882. He also studied at the Boston School of Oratory and Andover Theological Seminary.

When you read this book and internalize what it says, you realize how in control you are of your life. You are the 'responsible' of everything that happens to you: your health, your circumstances in life, your relationships, your financial success...

By just controlling and directing your thoughts, you alter the course of your life. Nobody else except you is the responsible for what you'll experience.

It shocked me when realizing how you can influence the life of your children by merely influencing the thoughts they will take as a 'predominant truth' in their lives.

It's a long book but written in an easy to read language. I would recommend to read it twice. There are so many things you will miss by reading it only once!

"The Miracle of Right Thought" is one of the best self-help books I have ever read. My brother turned me onto this book more than a decade ago. I read it then, and have recently begun to re-read passages I highlighted. What a revolutionary book, given that it was written in 1910. I am glad to see it is once again available for purchase. I had to really try hard to get a copy back in 1998.

I don't want to give too much away, but this book discusses the power within. To discover the Great Within. I liken it to Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of my favorite essayists, who always emphasized optimism. As a high school teacher, I constantly pound the optimism drum to my students. There is too much noise, too much negativity floating around this world. This book enabled me to see things in a different light, although I was always the optimistic kind, this book confirmed a lot of what I was feeling and continue to feel. I only wish I would have gotten this book back in high school.

The book is powerful in intent to the reader to get as much fulfillment out of life because there is so much to be thankful for, and that the power of right thought is a very powerful tool. It can really be one of those paradigm shifters for someone, very much like Covey's, "The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People."

Great book! The concept that we are responsible for and can determine our own inner states of health and happiness, as well as our outer circumstances like financial flow are really a return to some ancient thinking patterns that have either been 1) forgotten by most of us or 2) perverted by Joel Osteen and his ilk. I love that he repeatedly acknowledges that we're created beings under the care of one Creator, without at all coming at this from a religious point of view. My copy of the book is very badly made - it seems to have been copied and pasted from HTML format by someone who is not a native English speaker. It was really difficult to read, and yet STILL worthy of 5 stars. I read this book and began applying the principles and IMMEDIATELY began to see tangible results in my own life, starting from the inside.

A classic work written in 1910 by prolific author and success magazine publisher Orison Swett Marden. This is a phenomenal book about the power of our thoughts and how they effect our lives in a positive or negative way. Im always amazed at how books written so long ago can still be spot on today. There were many quotes that really spoke to me such as this one:

"We are all the products of our own thoughts. Whatever we concentrate upon, that we are. The daily habit of picturing oneself as a superb man sent to earth with a divine mission, and with the ability and the opportunity to deliver it grandly, gives a marvelous confidence, uplifting power and perpetual encouragement."

I highly recommend this book along with the authors other works.

I found this book in an antique store and the version I am reading was published in 1910. My niece Amanda taught me recently that if you really want to understand a book you should first study the author. With that I researched Orison Swett Marden and found out that is is probably the father of "personal development writings". It's really a great book. I'm enjoying it.

This book is worthy of a slow read, much like a great spiritual book. There are so many incredible nuggets of wisdom in this incredible book, it would be hard to point out one specific point. This comes from the same thought camp as James Allen and Napoleon Hill...what we keep within our mind transcends the world around us and our physical form.

I liked the book, even though I didn't find anything new for me. Though, it was really easy and exciting to read "The Miracle of Right Thought". The book gave me a lot of food for thought and while reading it I was feeling if not almighty, but at least optimistic :)
I will definitely read more books by Orison Swett Marden and I recommend this book to everyone.

Practical Wisdom for Our Times and Beyond!

I found this book to be easy to read, practical common sense which still applies to this day. Although this book was written in the early part of the 1900s( perhaps sooner) and some of the wisdom is outdated I am sure anybody who reads can find value in this book.

A must read. One the best gifts any person can give another is the teaching of the miracle of right thought. An honest and heartfelt book on happiness and joy. My first introduction to Orison Swett Marden's large collection of books. I am so impressed with Marden's words that I will be searching out many more of his books and I am so interested to learn more about who he is.

This book from the early 20th century is an uplifting self-improvement book that pretty much covers a great deal of my philosophy on life. You are in charge through your intentions and outlook and belief.

The author introduces the power of the mind and how our thoughts shape our lives. He emphasizes the importance of positive thinking, belief in oneself, and tapping into their potential to achieve extraordinary things. Visualizing success can help individuals align their thoughts and actions towards achieving their dreams. By consciously choosing our thoughts and cultivating a habit of positive thinking and deliberately focusing on empowering thoughts, individuals can create a more joyful, prosperous, and fulfilling life.

I am not going to gloss over the fact that this book was a little slow, had some repeating ideas, and was clearly written long ago. But there is good information here.

You need to know just one thing about this book. If you were to drop it on the floor and it fell open to any page, seriously, any page, you would find at least one paragraph if not more that you could easily make into a motivational wall poster. I have never read a book quite like this one. EVERY PARAGRAPH is quotable and extremely insightful.

Would I recommend this book to others to read? ABSOLUTELY In fact, I think anyone over the age of 10 or 12 would benefit from the wisdom in this book if they were to actually read it.
