Sidney Sheldon (1917-2007) was an American writer who won awards in three careers—a Broadway playwright, a Hollywood TV and movie screenwriter, and a best-selling novelist.

His TV works spanned a twenty-year period during which he created I Dream of Jeannie (1965-70), Hart to Hart (1979-84), and The Patty Duke Show (1963-66), but it was not until after he turned 50 and began writing best-selling novels such as Master of the Game (1982), The Other Side of Midnight (1973) and Rage of Angels (1980) that he became most famous.

Rage of Angels, Sidney Sheldon

Rage of Angels is a novel by Sidney Sheldon published in 1980.

The novel revolves around young attorney Jennifer Parker; as she rises as a successful lawyer, she gets into a series of on goings that lead to intrigue with the mob and a rival attorney that promises to break her life's dreams. As the story progresses, the protagonist is romantically torn between a famous politician, who helps her rise again, and the Mafia boss who framed her. The boss swears to destroy her after he finds out about her affair with the politician and the child resulting from the affair.

Amoung four Sheldon's books, This one has to be my most fave!

The plot is so intense and unputdownable. Jennifer Parker, she is an intelligent associate, but her life turns up side down after she is choosen to be a pawn in the trial of a Mafia Michael Moretti. She become notorious and no Law Firms accept her. But this strong girl never give up, she struggle and fight... and This is the Story of the best Lawyer I've ever read.

Gosh.. the Lawyer aspect of this book is even intenser than Julie James's books *no offence* I love her works anyway. BUT This is the Lawyer book I want to read! The books that I can experiance a lot of trials in court. Sheldon is very well-written about the court scenes and I enjoy it that much. Nope, I love it! I found my heart beat fast several times and cried in some trial. Jennifer is such a smart clever lawyer I want to be.

Romance is intense! Jennifer has to get involve romantically with two guys, an Angel and a Demon. Oh how I love the career of her love interests! Adam Warner is a smart Senator and Michael Moretti is a ruthless Mafia. Both handsome guys are powerful man who stay in the opposite sides and have to fight against each other in the politic game. *swoon*

If you guys love reading about Lawyer, Politician, and Mafia.. Don't miss this book! That's all I want to say. :)

Anatomy of a Sidney Sheldon read

Upon getting book from library: I have read so many serious books lately. It'll be fun to read Sheldon again. I loved Hart to Hart. Cannot wait.

Page 20: another virginal brilliant ingenue heroine? Oh well, at least this one is a lawyer

page 31: well, that's actually a plausible setup for her losing her job with the DA's office

page 104: seriously, she did NOT just turn to the jury in the middle of arguing a rule of evidence to deliver a lengthy soliloquy to them, did she? You so can't do that.

Page 148: ok, make that another virginal brilliant ingenue heroine who falls in love with the wrong guy

Page 175: you know, I liked Hart to Hart when I was 10.

Page 200: How. Many. More. Pages?

Page 205: time to start expediting this read

Page 286: make that two wrong guys. And one of them reminds me a lot of The Other side of Midnight’s Larry Douglas mixed with Demiris.

Page 420: this book is kinda sad

Page 505: hooray I'm done.

Verdict: maybe I'm too much of a literary snob to enjoy these sort of books anymore. Maybe if I were on an airplane. Still, way better than James Patterson. Sheldon really was a good storyteller for his genre and yet I wonder what he was trying to say. Stay virgins girls or you'll end up with a shady lady killer, literally? Or perhaps I overthink this.

I read all Sidney’s stories, not including the last two books published. After knowing so many great books, I put Sidney Sheldon out of my priority.
But from all the book he (I thought it was a she) wrote, this one and Sand of Times is my favourite.
This book is about Jennifer (see, I still remember her name though I don’t have the book), a young lawyer who entered her career in a positive manner and optimism in her blood. But then many things happen and many people came along the way, that changed her innocent way of thinking.
I found it scary, that people actually can change because of the situation happened to them.
I still feel my ‘crush’ on Michael Moretti (me and my best friend discuss about this guy a loooot) and reading about her boy –Joshua if I’m not mistaken- brought tears to my eyes.
I hate end of the story by the way. Her loneliness described very well, cause I felt a sting in my heart imagining her closing the door and trying to remember when was the last time she was happy. Hiks. I need end of Sands of Time to recover my sadness from reading this.

I had a different review where I gushed about Jennifer Parker, but upon closer inspection and reevaluation... I've changed my mind. I still love this book because the story is just

yum

This story revolves primarily around Jennifer's stupidity and questionable decisions when it comes to Michael and Adam. The action was insane. But if I met Jennifer right now, I would bitch slap her back to the land of common sense. Then again, if she had been smart in the first place, there wouldn't have been such a captivating story.

FYI,
But Sidney, you slayed me with this one.

This is my first Sidney Sheldon book and I love it

{Thank you Pang for recommending this book to me!}

I stayed awake all night to finish this amazing fast paced, multi-POV thriller with well developed plot full of interesting twists, great character development, brilliant cases with fascinating back stories. More importantly, I couldn't help admiring the main character, Jennifer Parker, a successful lawyer for sticking up for herself, for being such a fighter, a go-getter, a woman with talent, courage and intelligence who is not afraid to show it. At times, Jennifer was weak, she made stupid decisions that destroyed her hard work and reputation but then continued to follow up with more bad decisions concerning men, but that just makes her a deeply flawed interesting character and I like that. The ending was fitting and left space for possibilities.

I really admire Sidney Sheldon for letting his main character go crazy, for not being afraid to let his heroine soar high, to be triumphant and suddenly fall to pieces in a major way that had me horrified. Usually, I don't like character devolution, but Rage of Angels was well done. I can't wait to try another Sidney Sheldon book.

In Goodreads, a five star rating means that the book was really amazing, but Rage of Angels was not just amazing, it completely blew me away. Every author is so keen on making the leading character, a living legend, that the tragedy is lost. But that is the only emotion that we can relate to best apart from love. Joy is individual, sorrow is universal. Sidney Sheldon has pushed his imagination to the extremes, and finally there is everything in this book that a book needs to be complete.

Jennifer is in love with Adam Warner and Michael Moretti and nothing seems to make sense and on top of that her son, Joshua, dies and she is all alone. Every author feels the need for adrenaline for his readers to enjoy his book to the fullest, but very few can actually display it in words. Everyone wants to play it safe, because no one wants the leading character to die or become the bad guy or change. But Sidney Sheldon had really shown what he can do with his characters. I love the ruthlessness in the writing. What happens to Jennifer in the book is what is likely to happen to a person sharing a fate similar to hers and no one can escape it. It’s easy for me to say because I don’t live her fate, but if I ever did, then I would be likely to feel the same conflicting emotion between Adam Warner, the person who stole her heart and created the loneliness in her life and Michael Moretti, the person who erased it and became the passion she could not resist.

I would have felt much better if Joshua's death would have been framed by Michael’s mafia gang and then Jennifer would have gone against Michael while Michael was against her and Adam was against Michael. In that way, Jennifer would become Tracy Whitney (If Tomorrow Comes) for some time and then she could go back to living her normal life. But this is the only book that I have ever read that actually goes beyond the limitations of imagination and penetrates deeper into the tragedies of human life, which makes it much more believable as we can relate to it.

Like every Shakespearean play ends with “All’s well that ends well”, every Sidney Sheldon novel ends with “If tomorrow comes, but tomorrow never does”.

Ah, Sidney, Sidney... I always come back to you when I need a bit of a palate cleanser between loftier fare. You never fail to entertain me. This time, though, you didn't quite electrify me. I don't think this is one of your best works. It's got some absolutely terrific elements (two thumbs up for the kid's near crucifixion; ditto for his water skiing horror), but somehow it just doesn't quite scale the giddy heights of excess that 'The Other Side of Midnight' does so very, very well. But this is not to say I wasn't gripped and engaged. I read this in a couple of days, which is doing very well for me. But some of the expectations I had in the excellent first half didn't quite deliver with pay-offs in the corruption-drenched second half. I REALLY hoped some of the clients Jennifer miraculously got off in her climb to the top would come back and save HER in the second half. They didn't. Not even poor Stumpy, the limbless beauty queen. Also, Ken...? Was he a pillow biting old Nancy or not? Admittedly my beat up 80s copy was missing ten pages around a third of the way in, but I doubt if those bits were crucial to the Ken subplot. What WAS Ken...? Anyway, even when faintly mediocre, Sidney is never boring. He continues to teach ME lessons about storytelling, and there are plenty of other writers with books on the shelves that I rather wish he'd teach as well.

I thought Jennifer was "the bomb" as the kids like to say. She inspired me, and I almost wanted to become a criminal lawyer like Jennifer, but I realized that only Perry Mason's clients were ever always innocent, so I decided to take a different life path! Another great Sidney Sheldon read from my misspent youth!

I know this book was written in the early seventies and I tried really hard to keep that in context, but I just couldn't get past the rampant chauvanism this book was laden with. Sheldon tries to portray Jennifer Parker as a strong, independent woman but throughout the story, her life revolves around men! Her father dies of a broken heart after his wife's affair and subsequent abandonment...and his daughter proceeds to have not one but two relationships with married men! It just didn't jive. I found very little to like about Jennifer. She was just so needy. But I think what I disliked most about Rage Of Angels was that by the end, it had turned me into a feminist (and now I realize 5 years later that I never hated feminism, I am a feminist, I only dislike the brand of feminism that strives to hate men for everything. )

“Being poor is only romantic in books.”
― Sidney Sheldon, Rage of Angels

One of his best.

SPOILERS:

I loved this deeply layered story about Attorney Jennifer Parker, her life in NYC and the two men she loved. This was great from start to finish and remains one of my favorite Sheldon novels.

Seldom have I read a bleaker last paragraph in a book where the main character survives. I was haunted by it. Sheldon was one of the best. In a recent work of fiction I read one of the character sin the book disses him as not writing "real books". What the heck does that even mean? It offended me. I am here to say Sheldon's books are as real as you get. I was so moved by Jennifer's story, her love for her son. This was was a terrific book.

I hated what happened to Joshua and it was a tough section of the book. I could not stand Adam Warner. Michael? He was hard to hate no matter what awful things he did, although at the end, I stared to.

But Adam's wimpyness really kept me from relating to his character. He wanted power so much he was willing to ruin his life and the lives of everyone else. So even though he is a good guy in the book, I could not stand him.

4.5 stars. I am still haunted by that last scene. I wonder where Jenifer is now..

I do not believe in judging books by modern standards, its unfair and sometimes silly. So if this book had been written pre-Women's Movement, I would have given it more slack, but 1980 is a little late for some of the crap spewed here. I bought a stack of Sidney Sheldon books at a library sale thinking they would be fun-bad, and mostly, they've just been bad-bad. This did start out to be reasonably entertaining despite the cringe. But it deteriorated into ludicrousness about the time that Our Heroine starts sleeping with a Mafia guy who she knows is "an amoral killer" but darn, you know, he's just so irresistibly hot and a woman can't "feel like a woman" without "approval" from some hot guy even if he is a sociopathic murderer, well, I could work up a rant here, but I won't bother.

I'm not sure why is Sheldon against women in general, since I've read like only three books of his, but in both The Sky Is Falling and A Stranger In The Mirror can be found a miserable and lonely woman that ends up exactly like that. And she hasn't really done anything so bad.
In "Rage of Angels" Jennifer is the main character and the tragedy itself. She is intelligent and hard-working, but her life is anything but happy. Yes, she has made some pretty stupid decisions (most of them connected to married men) but I still don't see how's that the reason that her son must die, she stays jobless and alone for the second time. I mean seriously? And don't you dare tell me that it happens. Because this book left me depressed and fucked up for a couple of days. It's terrible. Not even one spark of hope.

My First Sidney Sheldon and I fell in love.

The story never gave a hint that it would be such a heart breaking novel at the beginning at all.I had guessed that the trouble that had began for Jeniffer at the start of the story will be overcomed by her and she would have a beautiful happy ending.
Boy was i in for a Shock.
Conclusion : Never take for grated the happy ending for a story and be ready to have you own heart broken in pieces over it.

Beautifully written. Beautifully intensive.

This is another Sidney Sheldon novel that will take you off your seats, a real page-turner. A masterpiece. Another Phenomenon. If you remember his novel Nothing Lasts Forever where it revolves around an intelligent doctor, now, the Rage of Angels tells the story of a young brilliant lawyer and anything that goes around the courtrooms. Rage if Angels is filled with love, tragedy, and a woman with two men. One of them is a good (white) angel, another is a dark angel.

The young intelligent attorney is Jennifer Parker, an attractive lady who lives in a cruel man's world, full of crimes, lies and murders, as she tremendously rises as a successful prominent lawyer in New York after being framed for threatening the District Attorney Robert De Silva who is the Chief executive against a Mafia boss, Michael Morreti which in turn leads to a situation that almost break her life's dreams. As the story progresses, our protagonist picked up every pieces of strength and dignity she still has in her and after having been successful in her pro bono cases she turns out to be the figure of the Godess of the courtrooms.

If you are an aspiring lawyer or in the field of law, this is totally a book for you. You will learn several courtroom dialogues which might be useful for future Criminal Cases whether you are a Prosecutor or a Defense Counsel. You will also learn how to look into details in every possible (legit) way.

I read this book when I was in college. I think I still have it. Smart lawyer lady (Jennifer) gets involved with mob guy (Michael Moretti...I just loved that name) when she enlists his help to find her illigimate son (Fathered by a powerful congressman)who has been kidnapped by a lunatic who blames her for mishandling his case.

In return for Moretti's help, she becomes involved in a relationship with him.........all the while still being in love with her son's Father (the senator).

It's good vs. evil with Jennifer in the middle.

This is one of the books. Probably considered a bit "low brow" but, I don't care........I loved it. Of course, that was almost 30 years ago. I might read (skim) it again and see if I feel the same way about it.

This is the first Sidney Sheldon novel I've read, and I can now understand why he's so popular.

Jennifer Parker is on her first day of her new job working for the District Attorney's office in New York City, when she does something horrible. She takes a package from a man in the courtroom and delivers it to the witness. She thinks the man works for her boss, but she's wrong. And the package contains a dead canary. With his Mafia trial falling apart once the witness refuses to continue his testimony, the district attorney vows to disbar Miss Parker. The defendant was Micheal Moretti, heir to one of New York's great Families.

Weeks after the trial, Adam Warner steps into Parker's life. He's been asked to investigate her case for the disbarment hearing and to make a recommendation. People have political ambitions for Warner, and Parker's case is seen as a stepping stone for his great future.

But nothing goes as planned. Moretti used Parker, and finds himself fascinated by her. Warner sees in her everything he's missing in his wife. The triangle between these three people will change their lives and the lives of everyone around them.

The opening pages of the book are set in 1969, and it moves up to near the publication date of 1980. When I was reading the book, I had no idea that it was published thirty years ago. The writing felt vital and alive, and it was a powerful story.

Crime, justice, sex, romance, family, love...
All you want when you read a book is already in this book. Sheldon was always successful to describe anything so clear and easy to understand/imagine.

He described crime like it is not as sinful as it sounds, he described justice like it's not just about law, he described sex and make me agree that sex has so many shadows, he described romance and make people like me think that romance can be sweet too, and he described family just as it is.

And he described love like...
Somehow, it's about someone who sacrifies everything without even thinking that what he/she is doing is a sacrifice...

The very first day of Jennifer’s career as a lawyer has been crumbled. Michael Moretti ruins it. But Adam Warner comes into her life, only to bring love and life into it. Her world turns upside down when he leaves her. Her fate ties her with Michael Moretti. Being loved by two influential men of the society, Jennifer could’ve done anything to elevate her up, but she reduces herself to be a pawn in their hands. Joshua Adam Parker’s death left me speechless. Caught in-between the race of muted love and unnoticed sacrifices, Jennifer stole my heart as a wonderful lawyer. Sidney entertained me again 

Speaking about this book, it is one of the books which took me along with its script!! The narration by Sheldon was as awesome as usual!! It gives u an unexplainable thrill and the way it was maintained through out the plot is praiseworthy!!

Plot begins slowly gains its pace n never looks back!! Its a perfect amalgamation of thriller, romance and fiction!! No one can beat sheldon in this area!!

Kudos to him for writing such a wonderful book!!

This was my first book by Sidney Sheldon and I loved it so much.
Although it has a tragic end, it is no doubt well written, we just can’t put it down.
Later on I realised that this is the speciality of Sidney Sheldon.
“Pretty woman in crisis”. This book is pretty different that his other books.
In this one she takes help of many people while in his other books the woman stands for herself.
Anyways this is my first book by him and hence it holds a special place. Coz he became my favourite author after this and I never looked back.

I read this books ages ago but still remember it as one of my favorite books. This book prompted me to read every other Sydney Sheldon book i could get my hands on. Some of his books are too predictable, but not the case here. Great book that includes a love story, intelligence, mystery, murder and anything else you could think of.

The first book I read by Sidney Sheldon. I love learning about the dirty ways of the mafia and how much control they have over Brooklyn. If you like deception, seduction, and a freaking hot mafia leader, then you will go nuts for this books!
