This book is ideal for anyone, not just Millennials, that want to live a meaningful life in an age of ever quickening change. Chanos has meticulously researched and summarized thousands of years of wisdom traditions, modern day self improvement, and psychology in this daily reader. He has filtered that research along with mind-blowing informed predictions for the near future into short chapters. The book seems best read one or two chapters a day, enough to absorb the concept and reflect or mediate on it through your day. Like a secular bible for the new millennium, Millennial Samurai slowly changes you as you interact with the text. If a sliver of the wisdom contained in this book makes it into some young minds, the world will be a better place. This is clearly Chanos’ goal in writing this book - to inspire a generation that is taking the wheel in the 21st century. I’d love to see the concepts in the book more detailed on social media channels so that younger generations can digest them on a wider scale.

I am usually not big on so-called “self-help” books but this one drew me in right from the start. The title alone is a huge draw. Millennial Samurai? Sounds awesome! Sign me up. Admittedly, some of the advice in this book is more geared toward a male audience, but even as a women I found those sections interesting. It's safe to say that I took a lot of notes while reading through this.
When I first started reading, I skipped over the “About the Author” section at the beginning of the book (as I usually do) and only went back to read it later. I was surprised to read about all of the accomplishments of the author, George Chanos. The whole time I was curious about whether he was a Millennial, because he seemed to understand our mindset quite a bit while still having a wealth of experience and wisdom that most of us Millennials aren't really old enough for yet. It turns out that he is not, but he is a former Attorney General and a Chief Legal Officer for the state of Nevada. It seems that Chanos has a great deal of experience in working with and mentoring Millennials and that was the motivation behind him writing this book. And I'm glad he did because I learned a lot.
Reading this book is sort of like having an older mentor for those of us who might not have that privilege in life. This book really gave me a different perspective on my life and the lives of those around me. I think it helped me to find a little more meaning and coherence in the world. I guess you can't ask for much more than that from a few hours of reading, can you? I recommend this highly!

Millennial Samurai, by my husband George J. Chanos, is a wonderful set of tools for happiness, success (whatever that means to you) and growth. It teaches you how your mind works, and shows you how to use it to get the most out of life. It’s written in short bite sized chapters so it’s easy to read. And it’s filled with information that can change your life. I admit, I’m biased, after all I married the guy. So, of course I love and believe in him. But I also believe in this book. If you spend 10 minutes with Millennial Samurai, you’ll realize why this book is very special. You should definitely check it out.

I know - It can be truly overwhelming. So many self-help, motivational, how-to books on the market authored by a veritable host of self-proclaimed “experts”. Millennial Samurai, however, not only sets itself apart and actually delivers on its promises, but Mr. George Chanos actually possesses the extensive experience, dynamic insights, and powerful observations that make Millennial Samurai both inspirational and life-altering.

Mr. Chanos’ time as Nevada’s Attorney General stands testament to his integrity and passion for reform - during a time of confusion, fear and injustice. (Yes I was there & Yes I experienced first-hand his impact on a society in crisis). His extensive experience as CEO of Capriotti’s - dealing with the very issues he addresses in his new book - undoubtedly qualifies him as a true expert.

Mr. Chanos knows of what he writes - from his hard work, from his personal experiences, and from his enormous band-width of practical knowledge ... both in, and out of, both courtroom and boardroom.

Millennial Samurai is not only a book that guides the reader to understand and relate to a new generation of thought, but it is also a book to be read by that very same generation in order to adapt and integrate into a cohesive, successful, much more empathetic society. It is filled with practical knowledge - yet coupled with applicable concepts designed and proven to enhance the greatest good for all concerned.

His skill and experience as a formidable litigator serve him well - both as a story teller, and as an organizer of concepts. Millennial Samurai is as easy to read as it is easy to comprehend. Do not, however, be misled by the straightforward messages and concepts contained therein - the more you think and apply, the more far-reaching and mind-altering the messages become.

This is a must-read for anyone who is a part of our growing, ever-changing, and constantly evolving society. I have owned companies that employed “Millennials” and “Baby-Boomers” alike - and if Mr. Chanos had but authored Millennial Samurai just a mere, few years before now, then the outcome, profitability and community outreach of these companies would have been vastly increased.

Millennial Samurai is not a book to be read in one sitting. Much like a fine wine, Millennial Samurai should be enjoyed, savored and experienced in order to achieve the most impactful and positive effects possible. If only I could turn back time - I would make Millennial Samurai mandatory reading for each and every employee - and schedule a weekly meeting to openly and authentically discuss assigned concepts. I am convinced that to have done so would have caused an exponential shift of bonding that would have moved, motivated and inspired.

As a former, professional martial artist, I particularly enjoyed the time Mr. Chanos spent accurately discussing and examining the Code of the Samurai. I also respect the extensive research and citations utilized - to not only give credit where credit is most certainly due, but to also solidify his already stellar credibility as a legitimate visionary.

Millennial Samurai spoke to me on so many levels, and in so many ways - based, in part, upon my mood, my mindset, my stress level, and even my personal heartbreaks. This phenomena is yet another testament to not only the fluidity and powerful messages contained within its pages, but it is also a testament to the powerful voice with which these pages speak to one’s mind, body, soul and spirit.

I highly recommend that you experience Millennial Samurai armed not with sword, staff and Bow but rather armed with highlighter, pen and post-its. Trust me - you will want to make notes on passages as you read them - not flip through pages trying to remember and recapture.

One last thought - or rather one last page (81) - that personally resonated with me strongly, loudly, and repeatedly. Why did Alexander the Great give three instructions for his burial: 1) Doctors carried his coffin; 2) His treasures were spread along his funeral procession; and 3) His hands swung freely at his sides, open and exposed for all to see?

This vignette had a profound impact upon me - and gave me peace, perspective, and a smile during crisis - but in order for you to see why, you’ll just have to read Millennial Samurai for yourself.

Well done Mr. Chanos - the First Millennial Samurai!

Disclosure: I received this book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

I am going, to be honest, when I first started reading this book I thought, "oh this book isn't for me".  I am not a Millennial so how could this resonate with me?  But after reading the first couple of pages, I didn't want to put it down.  Even though I am not a Millenial there is so much information I can adapt to my life.

One of the ideas I have struggled with throughout my adult life is change.  But in a little over a year now since we lost our home to a house fire, I have gone through many changes.  Reading Millennial Samurai by George J Chanos, reminded me that fearing change only holds you back.

We all experience change in our life on a daily basis.  I struggle the most with the big changes.  Such as we have lived in 3 different places since the fire.  Now it looks like we will be moving again to watch my sister's house while my brother-in-law goes through all of what he has to since his terrible accident that happened three weeks ago.

Change is inevitable as it has always been said.  Especially with technology as is mentioned in the excerpt below explains.  Imagine for a moment if you didn't accept changes in our technology.  Possibly you never got a computer, had a cell phone, and still listened to AM radio on your old transistor radio.  You would most likely not be informed on the world as it is but more sheltered.  That doesn't mean you wouldn't be smart as there are books, libraries and other ways to get the latest 'news'.  But without accepting change you are not going to further yourself and be left behind.
