Early Islam and the Birth of Capitalism
Early Islam and the Birth of Capitalism proposes a strikingly original thesis—that capitalism first emerged in Arabia, not in late medieval Italian city states as is commonly assumed.
Early Islam made a seminal but largely unrecognized contribution to the history of economic thought; it is the only religion founded by an entrepreneur. Descending from an elite dynasty of religious, civil, and commercial leaders, Muhammad was a successful businessman before founding Islam. As such, the new religion had much to say on trade, consumer protection, business ethics, and property. As Islam rapidly spread across the region so did the economic teachings of early Islam, which eventually made their way to Europe.
Early Islam and the Birth of Capitalism demonstrates how Islamic institutions and business practices were adopted and adapted in Venice and Genoa. These financial innovations include the invention of the corporation, business management techniques, commercial arithmetic, and monetary reform. There were other Islamic institutions assimilated in charities, the waqf, inspired trusts, and institutions of higher learning; the madrasas were models for the oldest colleges of Oxford and Cambridge. As such, it can be rightfully said that these essential aspects of capitalist thought all have Islamic roots.

نخستين موضوع كه از اولين صفحات به بعد خودش رو نشون ميده، عدم ذكر منبع تمام موضوعات و اشارات تاريخي است. و بعضي از منابع ذكر شده هم با توضيح مترجم در پانويس كه اين گفته در منبع مذكور پيدا نشد، توضيح داده شده است. يعني خيلي مستند نيست حرفاى نويسنده!
دوم اينكه به نظر ميرسه حداقل در يك مورد ترجمه سوره بروج، بر اساس ترجمه نويسنده از قرآن بوده، در حاليكه بهتر بود مستقيم از ترجمه قرآن استفاده ميشد!(ضمنا ترجمه آيات ذكر شده از قرآن اشتباه است كه حالا يا اشتباه چاپي است يا اشتباه نويسنده يا مترجمين).
سوم اينكه، نويسنده نگاهي اسطوره اي و به تاريخ مخصوصا قبل از اسلام و ساده انگارانه به بعد از اسلام دارد كه البته با توجه به منابعي كه در كتابش بهره برده، دور از انتظار هم نيست.
چهارم، در فصل نه با عنوان به قدرت رسيدن خلفاي راشدين، منبع گفته هاي نويسنده از كتابي هست كه در قرن هفتم هجري نوشته شده!!! معناي ضمني اينه كه نويسنده به مطالبي كه دلخواهش بوده در متون تاريخي رو گزينش كرده تا كتابش رو سر و شكل بده.
پنجم، خرم سلطان! مترجم در صفحه ٢١٤، همسر سلطان سليمان، روكسلانا خانم را در پانويس 'معروف به خرم سلطان' نوشته است! احتمالا مترجم عزيز تحت تاثير سريال خرم سلطان بوده است!! اينهمه آدم رو ول كرده و هيچ توضيحي نداده، مثلا در مورد خود سلطان سليمان هيچي نگفته بعد در مورد زنش گفته!!! عجب!
خلاصه اينكه اين موارد رو ميشه خيلي ادامه داد!
در كل اينكه اين كتاب واقعا غير از مقدمه ارزش زيادي نداره. ارزش خوندن نداره.

Dil bilmediği için alandaki birincil kaynaklara gitmeden argüman kurmaya çalışması, bizim de konuyu öğrenmek için bu kitabı kıymetli bulmamız bayağı acınası.
Tek tük bulduğum objektif hata kitabın benim gözümdeki değerini sadece Ali Şeriati ekolüne bir karşı denge sağlamasına indiriyor. Kesin başka da vardır böyle hatalar ancak ben yakalayabilecek kadar bilmiyorum İslam tarihini. Birkaç tane de yok artık diyip kontrol edip doğru olduğunu gördüğüm şey de oldu çünkü. Sonuç olarak, olgun bir akademik eser değil. Yine de belgeli uydurmasyonda bizim bazı hurafe dolu köşetaşı kitaplarımızdan daha ileride.
Çevirisi ise çok kötüydü. Bayağı.

حتى الآن لم يأتي الكتاب بجديد ولاباستنباط ذو معنى انما اعاد سرد السيرة النبوية من ناحية مصادر الانفاق والدخل ولي مأخذ كبير عليه بعدم تحري الدقة في المرويات عن الرسول فلخبط الحابل بالنابل ويورد مرويات غيرصحيحة ومشكوك في صحتها كأحداث مثبتة ولا أعتب كثيرا على المؤلف لجهله بهذه الثقافة والدين وإنماعتبي على الدار والمترجم الذي انتقى هذا الكتاب ضحل المعاني ضعيف الاستدلال لترجمته واضافته إلى المكتبة العربية،لا أنوي اكمال الكتاب حيث توقفت عند الصفحة 121 وارتأيت عدم اضاعة وقتي صدقا.
حتى الضحل في الثقافة الدينية سيجد هذا الكتاب متناقض وغير دقيق ولا يضيف أي جديد.

I'm between 4 and 5, it doesn't have an enormously critical eye towards the history but it is succint and a marvellous read. Would recommend for those less familiar with Islamic history as a good introduction.
