This is my first time writing a book review so bear with me. I purchased this book a few weeks ago because of the numerous advertisements and people recommending this book to me. I do have to say that I do get sick of reading the same self - help books over and over again because they all say the same thing. Work hard, give it your all and put in 120% effort. Below I am going to list a few different concepts that struck chords with me and discuss them. At the end I will rate the book out of ten.

1) "What matters at first is realizing the capacity to be obsessed". This line really spoke to me because I enjoy getting obsessed with leisure activities like video games, T.V. shows and hanging with friends. I already know I have the capacity to be obsessed, now I must find out how to redirect that obsession towards more positive activities. It seems obvious, but this line helped point out my strength and weakness at the same time, now it is important to apply it to something constructive.

2) "Only you are responsible for your success". I grew up in a neighborhood where many people got nice things handed to them and I wasn't necessarily one of them. Things helped put things into perspective. Once when I get the understanding that I am not some billionaire heir and take responsibility into my own action I can achieve what I set my mind to.

3) "When you are clear on your purpose you will never burn out". I think the reason why many of us face shortcomings our are excited to go home from work is because we aren't truly satisfied with what we are doing. This again is an obvious statement, but why aren't we finding out our purpose? If we find ourselves burning out maybe that activity isn't aligned with our best interests after all. I think that it is crucial that we all take a step and analyze what we are all doing this for.

4) "You know, your dad had his company taken away from him when he took on partners" and "I can't even believe you are thinking about that! It's so expensive to live there and everyone who lives this is crazy" These quotes hurt the core of my spirit because I have heard these two things numerous times. Instead of my family, friends, etc being supportive of me they dished out these two phrases line for line. While these two activities do take on risk, I believe naysayers and people not being supportive of your goals will hinder you from success more than anything else.

5) Personally I have had many haters in my life and I am sure many of you have also. It is important to just cut these people out. I don't see why anyone would let these people's negativity get to you too much.

6) I have friends who participate in drama, gossip, talking bad of others. Grant touched on the point of dominating yourself and not others. This is true in every aspect. Don't worry what others are doing, do your own thing. Respect other people's decisions but don't dwell on what they are doing with their lives.

7) Almost every business and professional help book states you are who you surround yourself with. This book sent a graceful reminder to keep that in check. While I do understand that we need to try to get away from negative people, it is so easy and fun to dwell in the hateful troll basement. This helped me reinforce to surround myself with only the best of the best.

8) Money is a direct correlation of the value you add on society. I have read hundreds of finance books, I am a finance major and I love studying personal finance. There is no need to dwell to much on this topic, but if you want more money, simply find a way to add more value to society.

9)"Most know more about the most recent celebrity scandal than they do about their job". Just quit looking at Facebook and social media feeds everyone. Most of it is junk and propaganda. Its so easy to get a dopamine rush scrolling through the feed but 95% of it is garbage and drama that will in no way shape or form improve your life. I appreciated this reminder Grant.

10) The last point I would like to point out is the vacation abundance chapter. This one really hit home with me. He simply stated that if you can't afford to go first class on vacation they you shouldn't be on vacation. I 100% agree with this statement. Our society has this stigma that you need to be on vacation every year, use your PTO and get good deals on trips. What are you going on vacation for? Have you achieved your goals? My parents used to always state that we must operate on a budget, get an affordable rental and make two of our meals on vacation everyday. Why are we on vacation if we can't even afford to eat out in class? I do believe in the concept go big or go home. Celebrate when you have achieved your dreams, not when it is time to use your PTO.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I will rate it at a 9.5/10. It was pretty neat I snap chatted Grant Cardone of me finishing the book and he snapped me back. I don't know if that was someone on his team or actually him but it felt great hearing him congratulate me. Overall I would highly recommend checking this book out. I am sure you will have a few points like I did that help you audit your life and thinking for the better.

“Don’t be held hostage by average” was my favorite line in this book.

The aforementioned axiom is very powerful in my opinion. I really liked this book, however, the only thing that didn’t make me love it—was the hubris prose inundated throughout the book.

Hence, Grant’s sales strategies are right on point. I think that this book is best for “win-at-all-cost type of people”.

I do caution with this: If the only way to win is through the conduit of: win-at-all-cost, then you inherently break various laws/principles of human rights’.

In my opinion, we must win-at-all-cost “only” if we don’t infringe on others unalienable rights’ coupled with morals that effect change for our subsequent generations. Why? We all should be familiar with the truthful adage: “No one is free until everyone is free.”

Great sales/business book!!! Keep up the fine work Grant.

I wanted to like this book, and I think I agree with the high level ideas.

The problem with this book is the writing. It is painful. He comes off as cocky and self-adsorbed, and yet the writing is still bland. Couldn't make it past the first couple chapters.

Clearly, this is a man who has transcended the need to live within the trivial realm of mere mortals. For when one has ascended to true godhood as Grant Cardone has, he only descends from his ethereal realm, atop one of his $50,000,000 Gulfstream 550 jet engines, when something extraordinary is taking place. Or when he wants to force Scientology onto his clients.

So with this in mind, imagine if you will, a scene:

You're at a very loud bar.
Sitting, relaxing, decompressing from a hard day's work. When all of the sudden, your newest friend, Grant Cardone, shows up, ready to party and loudly letting everyone there know it. They ignore him.

You wonder aloud 'should I be OBSESSED, or be average?', ending your statement with a heavy sigh.
The answer is probably clear to you within seconds. Little did you know, however, that your friend overheard you and you therefore have made one of the biggest mistakes of your life.

"Well, as it happens, I can help with that", he says.

You're a bit surprised you said it out loud, but grateful he's willing to dispense some quick advice to clearly answer one of the most pressing questions that define our turbulent age.

"Uh, sure, I have a couple of minutes", you hear yourself say without thinking, despite it getting very late.

Well, a couple minutes turn into 11 Hours.

Thankfully, in this time he has explained that you need to be exceptional. And that means you need to set high expectations. Ones that may actually be impossible. But it's their very potential impossibility that makes them so motivating to you and/or your company. He never clarifies exactly what this means. But the Patriots are great. So is Apple.

You start looking in the corner of your eyes for an escape. But it's too late for that.

The barkeep tries to get you both to leave. But Grant Cardone gets angry, and is armed with a deadly weapon: his terrifying gaze.

He stares down the bar keep and the bouncers as if he was trying to—and succeeding in—bending reality itself to his will. His superpower of BEING OBSESSED keeps them at bay, and you're astonished to find they're keeping the bar open now, at their own expense, just so he can finish telling you why it's 'not enough to own 100 apartments', like he did, but to instead own '500 apartments'. He also mentions he's doing things '10x' now, and why you should, too.

You don't really know what that means, because although it is a multiplier, he never actually quantifies or breaks down how to achieve this superhuman ability. All you know is that it sounds like it could cause cardiac or respiratory issues, or require a lot of cocaine. But Grant Cardone doesn't need cocaine. He doesn't waste time on activities that don't fuel his OBSESSION.

"Brilliant!, one second-story patron exclaims, clearly enraptured by both his magnetic charisma, and the fact he seems to be forcing everyone in the large bar to stay and listen. Through Sheer. Will. Alone.

You're astonished he's able to speak this long without even touching his drink. Or blinking. Or breathing. The entire two floors of the bar stand, stare, and are fixated on his every utterance.

For some reason, you are apparently unaffected.

You try to manage texting the police covertly with your cell phone—but some magnetic force stops you.

Grant Cardone has not broken eye contact with you for a long time, but says, "The Police can't save you from being average. They're not OBSESSED with your success. Not like I am."

You begin to ask him how he knew what you were doing, but then you feel a freezing chill go up your spine. And you realize he may be right.

Minutes later, SWAT police arrive and congregate outside, hearing a report Grant Cardone is supposedly 'unarmed', law enforcement apparently having enough intel to, wisely, conclude average police are not enough. If only they knew. They offer several sternly-worded warnings.

It turns out beforehand, another patron managed to call the police and break through Grant cardone's supernatural energy field by OBSESSING about his own dream: getting home in time to sleep before work.

Then, the police bang on the sealed steel doors. You silently scream, hoping to save them. But Grant Cardone looks back at you after having been temporarily distracted, disapprovingly, and slowly shakes his head and says, with disappointment, "No. That's what an average person would do."

The SWAT team yell 'THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING!"; all patrons of the bar stay silent. Grant Cardone uses his telekinetic powers to open the doors and invite them inside.

The team is astonished, and waits for a moment outside, seeing that their report of 'one unarmed man, 50+ hostages' is accurate. They then aim a half-dozen laser sights all over his body, and he tells them to relax.

You realize all hope is lost when the police quietly and orderly stare at one another, slowly lower their weapons without breaking eye contact with Grant Cardone, and proceed to join the patrons in order to learn how they, too, can BECOME OBSESSED and realize their dreams.

Ages later, Grant Cardone finishes his sermon, and bids his flock goodbye. They beg him to stay. They ask him to lick a gold brick again. But that won't work this time.

He bids you and everyone farewell, reminds them to purchase his other book (they all had purchased this one on their phones at Grant Cardone's behest already). He then rapidly levitates up to the ceiling, breaks through it, and finally catches and boards his jet midair, which was flying above him right when he needed it most.

Truly a mythical figure. We should thank the cosmos we have Grant Cardone:

Given those two options and how he defines each in this book, I'd rather be average, thanks. While I'm sure his philosophy might work for some, I thought much of the advice he gives can drive people to delusions of grandeur and destructively obsessive behaviors.

Grant Cardone, you crazy maniac, I'll be remembering your name for years.

GC is the guy who started from nothing and has become a business superstar. From middle class to a multimillionaire. From a junkie and a teen who was almost beaten to death to a famous sales trainer, a renowned speaker, an international social media influencer and a real estate mogul. This is enough for me to take inspiration from.

Summary
If you're ready for 12+ hours of motivational madness, tips and tricks on being obsessed to achieve your goals and lessons on selling, managing and becoming rich then this book is worth reading and your time.

Praises
He's a public speaker, he has this energetic tone, exuding enthusiasm makes you hooked and pay attention. This book is a slap on your face if you're dreaming and not acting on achieving your goals, helps you be obsessed and makes your dreams possible.

The content is very useful in being productive at work, push yourself and achieve more and helps you find the negatives in you and fix them.

Critiques
Preaches control over leadership
I'm constantly learning and making myself right to become a good leader but this author thrashes leadership and asks to take control rather than being a leader. I believe leadership and control is equally important to become successful.

Hire more, make money and fire them?

Honestly, his advice to management is to hire more people, make money and get rid of them, I really hated listening to this. How about changing the recruitment process to find the right candidates?

It's not bragging if it's the truth.
May be it's true but modesty is also the right quality in worth attaining.

Conclusion:
I have to admit that this book motivates me to the core to become successful in my career, this book gave me permission to be obsessed to achieve my goals which I've been parked for a long time but a necessity to my career and my personal well-being. It's highly recommended to anyone who's struggling or having a hard time to achieve their goals. Grant Cardone's life lessons helped me, it might help you too.

All the best...

I really enjoyed Grant's book, The 10X Rule, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on his new release. I found his other book more inspiring and motivating. This book seemed a bit preachy and Grant came across as arrogant. I still enjoyed this book and I'm glad that I read it. It just wasn't as good for me as The 10X Rule and recommend that one if you're trying to decide between the two.

I dont usually like those modern self-motivation books but this one has something. The first 30% is rather good, passionate story, then becomes a bible for how to rant at the office. Anyway was good and very straight to the point.

I do not read a lot of these business/self-help/motivational books, the type of books that non-readers swear by. But I love Grant Cardone. His energy, and enthusiasm is infectious, and though little of what he says is mind-altering novelty, it's good reminders that are packaged in an enjoyable way that doesn't make you feel like you are in a humid seminar room at a hotel downtown.

This book reminds you that your dreams don't just happen, they are spawned out of the obsessions you create. It also teaches you and warns you against the many perils of mediocrity. The first few chapters are my favorite. They are autobiographical and relatable no matter what your field of choice. As the book goes on, the theme focuses more on entrepreneurial aspects, which is fine, just not my favorite bit of reading.

I would pick up this book if I was feeling content, or feeling unsatisfied with the life I had made for myself.

Just finished this brilliant book for the 14th time in 14 months. I've been a fan of Grant Cardone's obsessive nature for several years now; but it wasn't until the last two years that I become obsessed with success; during this period I dove in head first, into all of his books and audio programs. When I say all of his books, I mean every single one; multiple times at that. Needless to say I was excited about #BOBA aka Be Obsessed Or Be Average. This book picked up where The 10X Rule left off (another classic form Uncle G). This book will give you permission to be obsessed. It will make you aware of the haters and the naysayers; by the way, Grant points out the difference between the two, and how naysayers are worse than haters. The selling and closing tactics found in this book are the best I've come across; and I've read hundreds of books over the years (3 hours each day).

Do yourself a favor, read this book and become OBSESSED. This book is raw uncut and unfiltered. Now go read it over and over.

or keep doing what you're doing and be average. The choice is yours. #BOBA

One of the best books I've read this year. Grant it very straightforward. The concept of this book is that obsession is not a bad thing. You have to be obsessed with the right things. In this book, Grant will give you the permission to be obsessed. Not only that. Grant will give you a number of reasons why you have to become obsessed in order to succeed. Book also offers tips on dealing the haters, the naysayers and other average people. This book opened my eyes.

I recommend this to anyone and everyone who wants to achieve something.

I disagree with the book ideas and philosophy of life. I thought it was about other things than proposed.
The book talks about workaholic and eager to success, which is not bad, but it does come with a price. I believe life should be a balance of working not too hard and family time or own hobby time, I mean if you work all the day and even win millions, you wouldn’t have time to enjoy it.
This is my personal view and it just don’t get along with the author view of life.

Be obsessed or be average, I think the book title says it all. Grant Cardone is an insane business man and absolutely a charismatic character whose obsessed with his business. His purpose is to motivate others to stay obsessed. The concept of this book is to energetically outline the importance of allowing yourself to be obsessed and that obsession is not a bad thing, you just have to be obsessed with the right things. Grant is giving reasons why one should be obsessed in order to succeed and that one has to be not only committed, not only hardworking, not only preserving, but to die for the cause they're fighting for. He also talked about dealing with haters, naysayers, the average people, and the people you surround yourself with.
This book is worth to be listened to. Grant has put a lot of emotions in listening to the audible format.

Below are quotes from the book:

Your potential expands as you grow.

Be obsessed and ignore the deniers. Don't settle for less. If you're the sum of the people you are around. Imagine being surrounded by 200 million of them

How many times are you willing to write your goals down? Be obsessed. Or you'll be average.

Feed the beast and starve the doubt - keep adding logs & purpose to your fire, instead of overthinking and trying to be perfect.

If you know where your money is you don't have enough.

Theres no domination without discipline.

I'm giving you permission to be obsessed on positive things. Goals aren't a bumper sticker. Or a post it note. They are precious. Eat sleep and breathe them daily.

Forget about balance. Follow it or be average. Go for it.

Holidays aren't going to rejuvenate you. Purpose is. If you want to meet the devil. Have white space in your diary.

Naysayers are more dangerous than critics. Because they all care but seek to mitigate your risk. It doesn't fuel you, it babies you ("i dont need a pacifier"). Just because people care doesn't mean their advice is correct: "Watch out for burnout. Don't do too much. Thats so big." Accept that you need their support not their advice. What they're just saying is that it's more about them, than you. e.g "How do you do that? How do you speak to so many people. Isn't that a bit too ambitious?". Family and friends love you, they care about you, but that does not mean that they have good advice for you, and that does not mean that they have the right to distract you from your destiny. ‬
‪People will always justify their averageness. The nay sayers are trying to protect themselves from being reminded that they've relegated themselves to average. Thats why they'll always try to protect you rather than encourage you to go ahead and explore different avenues. ‬
‪I'd rather others think less of me than me think less of me. ‬

If you don't influence people. Someone else will.

I need to train my people to bring me business And ask them often. In my weekly meetings. Who's bringing me new money today? Who's helping us to grow?

You shouldn't be afraid to hire and fire quickly. It's gonna grow your top line and remember it takes time to find amazing people.

I will start by stating that I have read/listened to other Cardone books (10X Rule, Sell or Be Sold). I do not like Grant Cardone. He may be a wonderful man, but I do not like his style or his philosophies. I agree with the sentiment that those who are "obsessed" with success will likely do far better than those who are not. If the average salesperson is making 20 calls a day and I make 100 calls a day, I'll likely do better. Grant asks a question like, "Are you doing things that you don't need to be doing?" I understand this question completely. Why would I spend my time stuffing envelopes when I could be meeting with clients and closing sales that generate thousands of dollars more. Where Grant loses me is when he uses an example of spending 6 hours a day with your newborn baby. He actually asks this question in response to asking if you are doing things you don't need to be doing. Things that take away from building your career and wealth. Yes, Grant, I do need to be spending six hours with my newborn. It's called bonding. I have heard him say things like (and I'm paraphrasing): work until 8 or 9 or 10 at night. Your kids would rather be with their friends anyway and your wife would rather be watching her shows. What kind of family do you have that your family doesn't want to spend time with you? What is the point in having a family if you don't make time for them?

This dude is very successful. Good for him. But my success will come in another way because I will not follow his blueprint.

I often go back to this book for sales. Very grateful for this book and discovering Mark Cardone.

Note to self: Always be obsessed about a goal. If an Apple gets cut and doesn't get eaten - it turns brown. It has wasted it's purpose and ability. Keep finding the future. Feed the beast! Starve the doubt. Never take a day off. Adios, bc I'm obsessed and you're not. You are a threat to average people. "If half the world hates me, I'd be president of America by now." Stay dangerous - eat fear.

Having total condition to follow what you love, fully.

The book has a great message, but maybe it is a bit too much of fillers and gets repetitive sometimes.

But hey, Grant has a point and he. clearly wants to make sure you understand that!

I found valuable more the latter chapters.

If you want something from Grant, go for his 10x Rule. That is gold.

What I Liked:
- Cardone has a relatable past that makes me want to listen to him more.
- He's a true success story as he actually has the money to show that his methods work.
- He gives fair advice about how you have to be 10 cuts above average if you want to have an above average income, that's just how it is, including working on your career instead of Netflix binging. Cardone says uncomfortable truths but they're necessary. If you don't want to be average, you can't do what the average person is doing.

What I didn't Like:
- There was a bit of redundancy in a few of the chapters.
- Cardone expects his employees to be willing to die for him and to be willing to put his company above their families, and if they don't, they're "not the kind of employees" he wants to hire. I am not sure if this was an exaggeration, but if not, that's just..weird?
- The sales chapter was a bit boring only because I am not interested in the sales field. However, no points marked off for that.

It's a great book mostly for motivational purposes, but without hokus pokus advice. Grant makes a great job explaining why it's important to be the captain of your ship and why you should ignore most of the "feedback" from mediocre people, even if those are friends and family.

I can only warn you that he is workaholic and may resent the idea of Tim Ferriss's 4-hour workweek for some of you, but I think the best way to approach his message is to take the good ones and combine them with other good ones that you have selected from other sources. Don't be a fanatical in that, but sure enough be obsessed with your work ethic. :P

Easy to read, with some great tips for asking the right questions in your entrepreneurial journey! ;)
