The Naked Communist: Exposing Communism and Restoring Freedom Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 2,153 ratings

A timely update to the phenomenal national bestseller.

Soon after its quiet release during the height of the Red Scare in 1958, The Naked Communist: Exposing Communism and Restoring Freedom exploded in popularity, selling almost two million copies to date and finding its way into the libraries of the CIA, the FBI, the White House, and homes all across the United States. From the tragic falls of China, Korea, Russia, and the UN, to the fascinating histories of Alger Hiss, Whittaker Chambers, Elizabeth Bentley, and General MacArthur, The Naked Communist lays out the entire graphic story of communism, its past, present, and future.

After searching unsuccessfully for a concise literature on the communist threat, W. Cleon Skousen saw the urgent need for a comprehensive book that could guide the American conversation. So he distilled his FBI experience, decades of research, and more than one hundred communist books and treatises into one clarifying, readable volume that became a touchstone of American values and earned praise from the likes of President Ronald Reagan, Glenn Beck, and Ben Carson. Lauded by one reviewer as “the most powerful book on communism since J. Edgar Hoover’s Masters of Deceit,” this text draws a detailed picture of the communist as he sees himself: stripped of propaganda and pretense. Readers gain a unique insight into the inner workings of communism - its appeal, its history, its basic and unchanging concepts, even its secret timetable of conquest.

Among the many questions The Naked Communist answers are:

* Who gave the United States’ nuclear secrets to the Russians?* How did the FBI fight communism after it was forced underground in 1918?* Why did the West lose 600 million allies after World War II? * What really happened in Korea?* What is communism’s great secret weapon?* What lies ahead?* What can I do to stop communism? * How can we fight communism without a major war?

Now updated for 2017, this edition includes a chapter on the forty-five Communist Goals, detailing how forty-four of those goals have been achieved in the U.S. already, as well as a chapter on the making of The Naked Communist, shedding light on how this book has sold almost two million copies. As relevant now as it was sixty years ago, Skousen’s groundbreaking work provides a renewed understanding of one of the greatest threats facing America today.

Book is a timeless warning of the destructive and failed ideas of communism. Pulled from nearly 200 sources, it is worth its weight in gold for including the 45 Goals of Communism (1961) alone, most of which can be checked off for applying to the United States right now.The book itself, however, is alreay falling to pieces as the binding has failed. I've only had it five months.

Utilizing his FBI experience, and decades of research, the author clarifies the true meaning of communism, stripped of propaganda and pretense. It's a lengthy book, but it's clearly written and remains engaging throughout. The chapter titled "The 45 Goals of Communism Today" is a must read for any true American. Initially published in 1958, it details the communist manifesto directives on how to destroy America from within, as they were not militarily capable at the time. For those who prefer a shorter read, the book "The Naked Truth" by James C. Bowers concentrates on these 45 mandates, and does an equally stellar job in explaining how all but one of these goals were achieved in less than five decades. And many of them with US government assistance. "The Naked Communist" should have been a required class in both public and private schools since its initial publication. Today, it could replace such classes as "The Trouble With Whiteness", which is the true definition of hate speech.

Very educational book of not only understanding the general history of Communism but also understanding of what is happening in this country. Plus , this book could be used as a source for further research on this subject

I found this to be a good basic primer for a general understanding of Communism. I felt it is written at a high school level. I know enough about history to know that the OBJECTIVE information (Biographical and Historical Events) are largely accurate. The SUBJECTIVE analysis is very much from the conservative side. I happen to be somewhat conservative and agree with some of this analysis. However if one wants to understand various viewpoints, one may wish to read additional works. Some of he author's subjective observations are not sourced. For example, on page 257 the author states that Fidel Castro sent "over 600 persons to the firing squads". That may be objectively true. But then he states "American liberals described the punishment as "harsh, but deserved."..." This is not sourced. That concerns me. As far as the product itself, I purchased a 2014 reprint pictured here. It has numerous typos....

I read first in 1996. Since I have read dozens of times, pasted out over 100 copies and teach the class online and to young folks. Well anyone willing to listen. The work by Mr Skowsen’s book stands the test of time and most has come to pass since first written.

Really explains the plight of socialism and how the mediocre tried to create a society so that there’s no innovation or competition, which kills a thriving and growing community.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensable Lens Through Which We Can Understand the Modern Left

Absolutely indispensable reading for any lover of Liberty. Want to know what's behind the modern left's instincts? Here's its molecular structure. Insanely well written and researched. 95% of the left doesn't know they inherited and perpetuate Marx's discredited and genocidal ideological framework. They'll refuse to admit it, but it's hard once you get into the finer points of Marxism and its designs on human liberty.

People need to be informed about this. The publicly stated aims of Communism to destroy the West, is something that our so called "objective media" does not investigate which is unfortunate considering that the record of Communism in the 20th century is one of genocide (100 million killed) and totalitarian oppression and destabilization of foreign countries. Even today we have many people saying "Oh yes but the principles are good". When we consider the original communist revolution i.e. the French Revolution and then the Russian, Chinese, Cuban, Vietnamese revolutions etc. we should not be so complacent about the dangers.
