Redesigning AI: Work, Democracy, and Justtce in the Age of Automation
A look at how new technologies can be put to use in the creation of a more just society.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is not likely to make humans redundant. Nor will it create superintelligence anytime soon. But it will make huge advances in the next two decades, revolutionizing medicine, entertainment, and transport, transforming jobs and markets, and vastly increasing the amount of information that governments and companies have about individuals.
AI for Good leads off with economist and best-selling author Daron Acemoglu, who argues that there are reasons to be concerned about these developments. AI research today pays too much attention to the technological hurdles ahead, without enough attention to its disruptive effects on the fabric of society: displacing workers while failing to create new opportunities for them and threatening to undermine democratic governance itself.
Yet the direction of AI development is not preordained. Acemoglu argues for AI's potential to create shared prosperity and bolster democratic freedoms. But directing it to that task will take great effort. It will require new funding and regulation, new norms and priorities for developers themselves, and regulations of new technologies and their applications.
At the intersection of technology and economic justice, this book brings together experts—economists, legal scholars, policy makers, and developers—to debate these challenges and consider what steps tech companies can do take to ensure the advancement of AI does not further diminish economic prospects of the most vulnerable groups of population.

This is a short book that centers around an essay about how to redesign AI, written by the economist Daren Acemoglu. The essay is first presented in full, followed by 11 shorter essays that respond to it from different academics and researchers. The original essay is thought provoking and so are some of the reactions to it throughout, but I found that there was a lot of depth lacking in the overall simulated discussion/conversation between the authors.
Especially after reading a lot more about AI over the last few months, it seems like some of the responders here are not as well versed in the topic as one would hope— at least not well versed enough to give meaningful counter-arguments or points of contention to push the dialogue forward. There are definitely some good ideas brought up, but the short responses that accompany them are so short that they fail to argue them out fully. Following the responses, however, are five essays that are unconnected to the original essay that are much better written and thought out.
If you’re interested in this topic I suggest reading the original Redesigning AI essay, along with the ones collected at the back end, particularly Kenneth Taylor’s “The Past and Future of AI”, and Anna Romina Guevarra’s “Coding Care”. But if you already have a decent understanding about AI and its many issues I don’t think this volume adds that much to the overall discourse.

YZ nin şu an'ki konumlandirilmasi ve ekonomik sosyolojik etkisi üzerine yazılmış bir makale ve etrafında farklı kaynaklarla gezinilmis bir kitap. Farkındalık yaratmak amacıyla başarılı olmakla birlikte çözüm ve sorunların detaylandurilmasi açısından makale çerçevesinde kalınmış. Sorun gerçi büyük ve forum lar olusururlmasi gerekliliğini de es gecmemek gerekiyor.

Kitabın orjinali ingilizce olduğundan türkçeye çeviri kısmında anlatılmak istenenlerin tam anlamıyla anlatılamadığını düşünüyorum. Akıcı ama anlaşılır değil.
