Knut Svanholm is a Bitcoin author, educator, and armchair philosopher. His first work, 'Bitcoin: Sovereignty through Mathematics,' is widely regarded as a classic in the space and is recommended on numerous educational platforms, including MicroStrategy's Bitcoin site. Knut's influence extends beyond his written contributions; he is credited with coining the popular meme 'Everything Divided by 21 Million,' a phrase that encapsulates the scarcity and mathematical principles underpinning Bitcoin. Building on his literary success, Knut dedicates his time to advising a select group of Bitcoin companies and hosting 'The Bitcoin Infinity Show,' a thought-provoking podcast exploring Bitcoin philosophy and its implications for individual sovereignty.

Knut Svanholm’s “Bitcoin - Sovereignty Through Mathematics” is not an introduction to Bitcoin nor an explanation of its technical workings. Rather, this book is an homage to a new lifeform. Bitcoin, the system, ushers in a new Age where money is separated from the state. Here, that story is beautifully and lovingly told.
Collating many ideas of the Austrian school of economics, he relates Bitcoin’s strengths in time-value of money, scarcity, and its role in the history of money and trade. Knut also introduces the idea of ‘absolute scarcity’ which, if true, will make Bitcoin the most valuable man-made asset ever.
Bitcoin has already proven an effective Means of Exchange and something of a Store of Value. Knut explains that since it cannot be counterfeited and comes with an immutable ledger, Bitcoin’s ultimate role may be as a Unit of Account. The final settlement layer for all trade. This book is full of bold claims, but that is the point - articulating the possible.
There is no way to inflate Bitcoin, which is modus operandi of all government currencies. Knut explains how “inflation is the mechanism that hinders us from transporting the value of our labor through time”. As Michael Goldstein says, Bitcoin fixes this.
There are many criticisms against Bitcoin that are just shots from the hip from those who attack without trying to understand, such as calling Bitcoin a waste of electricity. Knut ably answers many of these questions with the help of other Bitcoin Maximalists and Austrian economic concepts.
“Sovereignty Through Mathematics” also introduces the idea of money as an amplifier. When your money is corrupted, so is pricing and markets which further destroys contracts, relationships, and society in general. See Venezuela. In a world with ever-increasing debt and less confidence in political leaders, there is a need for sound money.
The death of Bitcoin has been greatly exaggerated, yet it will outlast us all. Each day, more people around the world use the internet, and each day, governments counterfeit more of their money. So each day brings a stronger use case for Bitcoin. The paradigm of long-regulated industries is suffering disruption wherever digital disruption obsoletes their walled gardens. Shift to Bitcoin to obsolete central banking hegemony.
There are so many great ideas throughout this short book, but Knut does not fully explain them. Instead he invites and inspires us to “educate [ourselves] about the invention and what it means”.

    Thanks, Knut

A great primer of just 101 pages that will help you to better understand the value of bitcoin. Knut clearly understands what makes bitcoin function and why it is going to change the world. If you are looking for a simple read that you can start and finish on the same day, this book is a great $10 investment. I strongly recommend.

Some key takeaways from this book for me were:
    - "The beauty of mathematics governs the bitcoin system."
    - "Bitcoin is a battery. Perhaps the best battery ever invented."
    - "Bitcoin obsoletes borders."
    - "Time, by the way, is the scarcest of all resources."
    - "Bitcoin is valuable because it is scarce and it's scarce because it is costly to produce."

If you enjoyed reading "The Bitcoin Standard", you'll love reading this book. It covers the essence of why Bitcoin is a one-off scarcity model of sound money and why altcoins can't reproduce its features. Well written and a page-turner for bitcoin enthusiast.

Knut is a great force in Bitcoin thinking and evangelism; kudos to him. But the writing style is often confusing and littered with unnecessary criticisms of religions and other cultural artifacts.

Instead of using these criticisms to make a point or reinforce a point, which is his goal, he just comes across as petty, at times bordering on character assassination - the weak man’s debate strategy.

The thing is, Knut has a lot of great things to say, things that need to be heard and considered by society as a whole, but his anti religious sentiment and hubris just muddies the waters.

Knut, if you read these comments, thanks for all you’re doing in this space but leave off all the superfluous negativity about things you don’t understand - your treatment of religions is naive at best. Take your own advice, stop criticizing what you don’t understand and stick to sharing bitcoin insights - that’s where the gold is!

I do recommend this book, but it’s a lot of work for a meagre reward; nevertheless, even the minor progress in understanding bitcoin is worth it :)

Good read on Bitcoin albeit I hate that people can’t just stay on focus and have to bring in their creation views or beliefs into everything. Example I could have just said good Bitcoin book but instead I couldn’t help but comment on the authors insistent repetitive comments on his beliefs. Had he stayed on point I could have. Many other references could have been made instead of being religious or the lack their of in to the point of view on Bitcoin, i don’t care what you believe so long as you keep it to yourself.

An enjoyable and easy to follow read on The reason why the bitcoin protocol is the only one we should be focused on.
An good overall introduction to money and why Bitcoin is just the next logical step in the evolution of money.
Knut takes a hard subject and makes it easy to follow, showing you why and how this in-genius gift that Satoshi gave us works on so many levels to bring us sound and verifiable money.
