The Trip Journal

Rate this book
A whole new generation is waking up to the power and potential of psychedelic medicine and altered states of consciousness. Whether you’re an experienced psychedelic explorer or just curious, T he Trip Journal  is an easy-to-use guide to help those working with psychedelic practices through their journey.

While there are many books about psychedelics out there, they are often dense, overly scientific, and don’t provide practical advice on how to make the most of your experiences. That’s why The Trip Journal was created. Being intentional, informed, and confident about the journey you embark on will help make your experiences positive ones.

The Trip Journal will help prepare you for your consciousness-expanding experiences – whether with psychedelic medicines, breathwork, meditation or yoga – and then, most importantly, integrate them into your life so you can give power to those experiences.

Created by the founders of Field Trip Health Ltd., a premiere public psychedelics company, this guide not only teaches what comprises a psychedelic experience but the research behind the practice. You will receive preparation tips, advice, journal prompts, a psychedelic trip checklist, a trip report section, and everything else you need to process, track, and understand your experiences.

With room to cover ten sessions, this journal safely and effectively helps you to record your trips by breaking the experience into three sections- before, during, and after. Each section also encourages you, by way of carefully crafted prompts based on the latest science and clinical experience, to reflect on your experience at each stage of the journey.

For the curious or the seasoned, The Trip Journal is the essential companion for expanding your mind and opening your heart.

This trip journal feels more geared toward ketamine experiences based on the number of entries available, it's scope of documentation to just 14 days after an experience, and emphasis on recommendations such as only using a licensed psychiatrist or psychotherapist for integration. Makes sense as the co-authors are involved in Field Trip Health (one as a founder, one as an executive). Book has a clear and succinct format. There is space to record your internal check-ins, emotional states, and blank lines for journaling and self-reflective narrative. There are some inspirational/motivational quotes throughout that I like. I do wish there was more granularity on how to document your state before and after psychedelic experiences and I think these could be greatly expanded (right now there is a smiley face spectrum with 5 options and 15 emotional descriptors and a few lines to write down your intentions in the "before" section). Also, probably unlikely that journeyers would use the "during trip" section. There are ten entries for Before, During, and After psychedelic trips. The journal is a beginner resource for those starting out with ketamine treatment, or microdosing, but I imagine one would outgrow the basic rubric over time, especially with large dose experiences with "classic" or serotonergic psychedelics. Nothing that you couldn't document in your own personal journal with the right formatting, but likely a good resource for those just starting their exploration with intentional psychedelic use.

A very nicely designed book, featuring some great quotes from many wise thinkers, a concise introduction about the benefits of psychedelics and recording trips, and then enough entry spaces for 10 psychedelic sessions, where you can record your preparation, the trip itself (with space for journalling/drawing), and integration (along with emojis so you can record how you feel in the days following the trip). Very useful! I look forward to using it.
