Rate this book
Creativity. Innovation. Success. That's Disney Imagineering. It was the Imagineers who brought Walt Disney's dreams to life. Now you can tap into the principles of Imagineering to make your personal and professional dreams come true.

Even if you're not building a theme park, the Imagineering Pyramid can help you plan and achieve any creative goal. Lou Prosperi designed the pyramid from the essential building blocks of Disney Imagineering. He teaches you how to apply the pyramid to your next project, how to execute each step efficiently and creatively, and most important, how to succeed.

The Imagineering Pyramid is a revolutionary creative framework that anyone can use in their daily lives, whether at home or on the job. Prosperi shares with you:

* How to use "The Art of the Show" to stay focused on your mission.

* Practical tutorials for each of the fifteen building blocks that make up the pyramid.

* Creative Intent, Theming, "Read"-ability, Kinetics, Plussing, and other Imagineering concepts.

* Imagineering beyond the berm: how to apply the pyramid to fields as diverse as game design and executive leadership.

* An "Imagineering Library" of books to further your studies.

Without the Disney publication label, it met my expectations. To me, it read as an extended blog post. There were times it became extremely repetitive, but the gems of content placed throughout made it worth my time. I think its unfair to compare this to books authored by Marty Sklar, Kevin Rafferty, Rolly Crump etc., especially for Prosperi not having working experience as an Imagineer. That being said, it does not take away from the quality and value of the book. Worth a shot for avid Disney fans, but if you are new to the gang, I'd point you to the Imagineer's Guide line of books or some of the autobiographies published directly from Disney.

Interesting and fun ideas, stretched a little thin. I enjoyed it mostly for the examples of how the Disney parks exemplify the different principles. The last chapters about applying the principles to other fields weren't quite as great, but there were some good ideas in there. I'm not convinced there had to be fifteen principles because even at the end I couldn't really tell some of them apart since they overlapped so much. But still, fun stuff, and I always enjoy reading about the Disney parks.

I felt like I was reading someone's PowerPoint presentation. There was SO MUCH repetition, which you can get away with and even need in a spoken presentation, but which is annoying in a book. And, to be really honest, the way he applied his "Imagineering Pyramid" to the world outside of Disney made it feel extremely stale, static and not at all interesting. Something was lost in translation along the way. Maybe pixie dust.
