Overall, The 1-page Marketing Plan is an enjoyable read that's light on fluff and mostly delivers on its promise. The big take away for me is that I really misunderstood the point of advertising when starting a new business.

If you're advertising to make sales, you're doing it wrong. People might be interested in your product, but probably aren't interested in making a purchase right NOW. That means, your advertisements should be focused on finding people who are interested in your product and getting a way to keep in touch with those people -- like getting their email address. Once you have a way to contact them, you can constantly deliver them value, and each time you do so, increase the chances they're willing to actually make a purchase and become a customer.

Taken a step further, it made me rethink the entire strategy of a new business. Your business shouldn't revolve around selling a product. It should revolve around something that will build a list of leads/prospects, and a way to constantly deliver them value such that they naturally funnel into buying your product and becoming a regular customer.

If you're going to sell hot dogs, don't put up signs that say "BEST HOT DOGS IN TOWN SOLD HERE!" Put up a sign that says, "TEXT 555-HOT-DOGS FOR FACTS ABOUT HOT DOGS!" and, bam, you've just got a list of everyone in town that REALLY likes hot dogs, and a number to reach them to make a sale.

Instead of just trying to fling free hot dogs at random passersby on the street and crossing your fingers they wanted TWO hot dogs and will go into your store and buy the second... Spend that budget on investing in art content for your @hotdogfacts Instagram account.

Fact #1: Hot Dog Facts has the best dogs in town!

Okay, maybe that's not the best example, but you get the point.

Best marketing book for small biz

Well, I am a small business owner and sometimes you encounter really tough times. You start to think about changes you have to make. You think about marketing more and more. However, most marketing books are so complex. They all were written for big brands. You pick up one concept, then another, then you get confused. It is like some kind of voodoo mystic. You need a structure, a solid system. This book demystifies marketing, gives you ground on which you can start building your marketing.

This is a book for small business owners who want to learn some marketing basics. Because the author is good at marketing, he's targeted that audience well with his book, and has accrued an average 4.3 rating for the book. But for professional marketers, this is a magpie's nest comprised of bits and bobs the author collected from his experience and from other "thought leaders," and it's got very little original or strategic thinking. It's also going to be too basic for you. For example, it contains basic explanations of NPS, email marketing, direct marketing, customer lifetime value, etc.

As a small business owner for the past 20 years, I have found that building our own marketing plan to be one of the most difficult things to do. The time needed and the overall complexity that is often associated with building complete marketing plans that often get back-burnered as we take care of our client's needs first. The 1-Page Marketing Plan takes what is often a complicated process and boils it down to it's most essential elements. While many complain that the book is overly simplistic, this is a feature, not a bug. Sometimes business owners get too stuck in the weeds that they are unable to move forward. Dib breaks the process down into bite-size chunks that makes building a marketing plan easy enough that there are no more excuses for not doing

Finally another book with specific examples and advice for n00bs, such as myself. Quick and easy read. I like how this book is basically of cheat sheet of a healthy 'marketing system'.

The title is pretty clickbait-y, it sounds like a getting rich quick tips and tricks book for chads. But it's actually pretty down to earth with some solid, modern examples that are not coca cola or apple.

Literally an excellent book.

I have read a few business books and I think this is by far the best one I have read yet. It gives the straight-up facts with digestible examples and honesty.

I am looking forward to start developing my own marketing plan using this book as reference. We will see how it goes!

“The way you market yourself will have a dramatic impact on the clients you attract and the amount that you can charge for your services.”

Extraordinario libro.

Construir relaciones-> Educa, educa, educa.

I loved this book and finished it in only 3 days. I must note though that’s it’s my first ever marketing book, and I generally rather loath books that talk about Business or Marketing or Sales or finances , I’m that type or person that really doesn’t like to talk about money. But life had spoken and I found myself in the middle of creating a business, and really really wanting (not to mention needing) it to succeed—enter this book.

All the ideas that were talked here were really easy to follow and genuinely pragmatic. It gave me with a really clear step by step basis on what I could implement right at this moment to make my business better.

I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be returning to this book over and over again in the coming years. Well done.

This book is a good, easy-to-follow guide. I've read many marketing books trying to figure out how to increase my leads and my customer base. I will implement the tips in here. The one thing I didn't like is this: I'm a graphic designer, and he talks of graphic design as something to outsource. How am I to believe he is talking to all entrepreneurs when it seems that us, designers, are just tools to him? Tim Ferriss did the same in his book The 4-hour Workweek. It gets a bit annoying, but, regardless, there are some good tips in this book and one thing I agree with is that marketing needs to be done daily. Gonna implement my plan and go for it. But, all in all, regardless of his views of graphic designers as just tools, it's a good read.

Kindle (Unlimited) is making me post this review. I don't have too many opinions on this book.

So, I took up a challenge by accident when I received a payment alert realizing I was signed up to Kindle Unlimited (presumably) due to an unreturned book I picked up during its trial or from Audible.

Long story short, as with most of the selection in Kindle Unlimited, the book is sorta average.

It explains an overall marketing activity in canvas format (like Business Model Canvas) and calls it a breakthrough. It has tips and some advice here and there. If you are a novice or want to make sense of online marketing in general, it might be a good first step.

Picked this up as a designer who begrudgingly had to put on the “marketing” hat on top of stack. For me, it was a good reference to get started, especially since I don’t know what the eff I’m doing.

Disagreed with some parts; he wrote many things as absolutes, when I’d argue that “it depends”. Some of it didn’t apply to my situation, however, the book is directed towards small business owners, not designers with no interest in marketing, so it’s probably way more useful for the intended audience.
