About the author

Robert Kiyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad - the international runaway bestseller that has held a top spot on the New York Times bestsellers list for over six years - is an investor, entrepreneur and educator whose perspectives on money and investing fly in the face of conventional wisdom. He has, virtually single-handedly, challenged and changed the way tens of millions, around the world, think about money. In communicating his point of view on why 'old' advice - get a good job, save money, get out of debt, invest for the long term, and diversify - is 'bad' (both obsolete and flawed) advice, Robert has earned a reputation for straight talk, irreverence and courage.Rich Dad Poor Dad ranks as the longest-running bestseller on all four of the lists that report to Publisher's Weekly - The New York Times, Business Week, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today - and was named "USA Today's #1 Money Book" two years in a row. It is the third longest-running 'how-to' best seller of all time.Translated into 51 languages and available in 109 countries, the Rich Dad series has sold over 27 million copies worldwide and has dominated best sellers lists across Asia, Australia, South America, Mexico and Europe. In 2005, Robert was inducted into Amazon.com Hall of Fame as one of that bookseller's Top 25 Authors. There are currently 26 books in the Rich Dad series. In 2006 Robert teamed up with Donald Trump to co-author Why We Want You To Be Rich - Two Men - One Message. It debuted at #1 on The New York Times bestsellers list.Robert writes a bi-weekly column - 'Why the Rich Are Getting Richer' - for Yahoo! Finance and a monthly column titled 'Rich Returns' for Entrepreneur magazine.Prior to writing Rich Dad Poor Dad, Robert created the educational board game CASHFLOW 101 to teach individuals the financial and investment strategies that his rich dad spent years teaching him. It was those same strategies that allowed Robert to retire at age 47.Today there are more that 2,100 CASHFLOW Clubs - game groups independent of the Rich Dad Company - in cities throughout the world.Born and raised in Hawaii, Robert Kiyosaki is a fourth-generation Japanese-American. After graduating from college in New York, Robert joined the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam as an officer and helicopter gunship pilot. Following the war, Robert went to work in sales for Xerox Corporation and, in 1977, started a company that brought the first nylon and Velcro 'surfer wallets' to market. He founded an international education company in 1985 that taught business and investing to tens of thousands of students throughout the world. In 1994 Robert sold his business and, through his investments, was able to retire at the age of 47. During his short-lived retirement he wrote Rich Dad Poor Dad.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2024I give this book to everyone of my grandchildren when I get to be a certain age with a nice fat check inside. We take the time to go for a meal at one of their favorite places and discuss the things I like about it and the things they like about it after they’ve read it. They can cash the check once the book has been read in the dinner has been eaten, and we have discussed all of the good pros and cons of the book. without a doubt, every single one of the children who have read this have grown in their understanding of being able to earn money through multiple forms of income, and to have a concept of understanding how to grow wealth with the long-term good of themselves and to help others. Great book I recommended highly high.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2012For most people life consists of suffering through school, suffering through a job you hate and then eventually retiring too tired and too poor to do any of the things you've always wanted to do.
I was headed this way myself...Till a friend suggested I read this book. At first I was sceptical at best, and totally dismissive at worst....Until one night, bored at work, I found the copy I had been given in the bottom of my bag. I started to read it and only because I'm stubborn did I read past the first few pages. At first all I could see was some rich guy rubbing my nose in the fact that he had heaps of money an time on his hands and plenty of it to waste on writing a book....I told my friend this and he laughed saying that many people think this at first.
That was when he introduced me to the game CASHFLOW (based on this books lessons and information and also made by the same guy who wrote the book. After playing the game for only a few minutes, suddenly some of the stuff I had read in the book started to make sense. It couldn't be that simple could it? Some guys book and a game can teach you the lessons you need to let go of the old way of doing things and not only free yourself from the endless wheel of work to pay the bills but make you money start to work for you the way it should!?!? When I asked this same questions of my friend, he just smiled and said,"Now read the book again".
Over the next month, I went back through the book, taking notes and highlighting parts I wanted to explore more. I did a lot of research (and then got this book on Kindle so I can reference stuff easily)...We've since passed that old copy of the book onto several other people and whilst all of us are still working, our mindsets have changed and we are all making serious inroads into getting OUT of the rat-race.
Thankyou Robert Kiyosaki, you have changed our lives. I cannot stress enough how much this book is worth. Highly recommend it to anyone sick of "working for the man" and getting nowhere fast but always feeling tired.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2012a friend of mine originally loaned me his paperback edition of this book. i read it cover to cover and it completely changed the way i think. i read a lot. i'm 20 years old and i have been reading non-fiction books since i can remember. i started reading stephen king at the age of 11. in short, i am a damn good reader and i finish books really fast. i often then don't bother to reread the same title. this book is the exception. i bought it for my kindle fire and within the first thirty minutes i read 13% of it. oh yes. the kindle edition shows you how much you have completed in terms of percentage. it's also a lot easier than reading the actual paperback edition. i don't have to turn pages, it won't wear down with age, and i can look up a word just by holding my finger down over the term i am unfamiliar with.
it's also really easy to read. kiyosaki expresses all of his points with clarity in a conversation style of writing. i tried reading other books like "on the postcolony" by mbembe and his way of writing is very hard to comprehend. this is not like that all. if you are confused with what you want to invest in and need clarity, this is the book for you. i live in the tempe area of arizona and i've seen the real estate market change drastically here. before i read this, i was vaguely interested in investing in real estate. now i am sold. he gives examples on ways he made a profit doing short-sales, buying property and then waiting for it to increase in value before selling it off. he also cites some of the tax laws that the rich (him) capitalize on.
in short, read it if you need clarity and direction on what you want to do. if you're already self-made and wealthy (rich), then don't bother. but if you're like me and stuck in a dead-end job where you're not getting paid enough, then please give this book a shot and ignore the critics. it changed the way i view money and i'm sure it will change your views too.
