The Canadian Trucker protest in Ottawa attracted tremendous national and international attention, and was simultaneously demonized by then Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his cronies in the legacy media, the minions at the CBC first and foremost among them. What really happened? Benjamin J. Dichter, integrally involved from the beginning, lets his readers in on the one that all Canadians should know.— Jordan B. PetersonEven Canadians can only take so much. When Prime Minister Justin Trudeau imposed mandates designed to kill the job of every unvaccinated cross-border Canadian trucker — no exceptions — common-sense people rallied by the tens of thousands to support trucking convoys to the nation’s capital. They baked cookies. They cooked pots of chili. They waved flags from highway overpasses and stood together to sing “O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.” Benjamin J. Dichter, official spokesperson for the Freedom Convoy, takes the reader inside the non-violent mass demonstration that insisted, “No more!” He tells how Canadians inspired parallel movements in thirty other countries and recounts the drama of a precedent-setting Bitcoin crowdfunding campaign. Most important of all, he establishes that Trudeau planned his spiteful, autocratic crackdown at the outset, invoking powers never before used against non-violent protesters in a Western democracy.
This book is a beautiful read. The way in which Dichter (one of the co-organizers of the Canadian Freedom Convoy and an original convoy director) not only captured his experiences but the experience of others, is what makes this book so impactful. If you are looking to read about the largest and most peaceful protest in Canadian history that sparked other Freedom Convoys in countries around the world, this is THE book.
Great read to get the protestors' side of the story to understand what drove thousands of trucks from around the country to camp at Ottawa for weeks asking to remove the vaccine mandates (not vaccines itself) and the ArriveCAN app. The book dives into different ways that the convoy received support from the ordinary Canadians from different walks of life who themselves were struggling in managing their day-to-day life amid COVID shutdowns and restrictions. The most important learning was the challenges when leading such a huge protest and yet keeping it organic and decentralized without compromising integrity. I was following both, social media and mainstream media, on the coverage of the protests. And it appeared that both are reporting on completely different protests with a huge gap in the description of the convoy and their behavior. The book explains why it was so. Finally, the author also goes into the betrayals by the lawmakers, law enforcement, mainstream media and other entities of establishment who left no stone unturned in vilifying the protestors.
Given that the author was ostensibly the trucker convoy's spokesman, I was expecting behind-the-scenes stuff, but no. Dichter swanned off in the first week before returning and breaking his leg so he doesn't seem to have been privy to much. The funniest bit is him claiming that other people were trying to do his job. The bulk of the text is about why Trudeau sucks and regurgitating what was said in the media. The book does appear to have been proofread tho and its not full of typos.
