36/ To learn more about the concepts in this thread, I recommend Nassim Taleb's Fooled By Randomness -- a wonderful book about how the principles of probability apply to investing and life in general. Here's a relevant extract from the book (h/t @nntaleb):

21/ Perhaps it's NOT a coincidence that Shannon was ALSO a phenomenal *investor*. By some measures, Shannon's portfolio even outperformed Warren Buffett's over a multi-decade time frame! From the wonderful book Fortune's Formula by @WPoundstone:

Kidding aside, it’s a wonderful book — full of research into practical questions backed by concrete data. I enjoyed it very much!

28/ We often see headlines like: "New research calculates pi to X trillion digits" If you're curious about the methods these researchers use to find so many digits of pi, read this book: Pi Unleashed.

26/ I'll leave you with a few resources to learn more. Prof. Steven Strogatz's outstanding book, Infinite Powers, contains some pi history. It's also a lovely introduction to calculus -- for non-mathematicians. (h/t @stevenstrogatz)

31/ If you want to learn more about Card Counting or Kelly Style Betting, I recommend the books and papers written by @EdwardOThorp. His short book, Beat The Dealer, is a great way to dive into these topics:

You’re too kind, Brian. 🙏🙏 Thanks for putting together such a wonderful book! I’m planning to order copies to give to several people I know who just started investing.

This is a terrific book. Simple, clear, and concise. Brian starts at the very basics — ie, what is a stock? From there, he gradually builds up several key concepts essential for investors of all stripes. A great gift for new investors, and even middle/high school kids.

1/ The Founders, written by my friend Jimmy Soni (@jimmyasoni), is one of the best business biographies I've read. It's the story of PayPal and the early days of the Internet -- featuring @elonmusk, @peterthiel, @DavidSacks, @mlevchin, etc. Here are 7 nuggets from the book: 👇
